DVD: Stargate SG-1 Vol. 40 (Missing Episode)

Recommended Posts

Okay then, I'm somewhat confused. I purchased Stargate SG-1 Vol. 40 today (UK) and there are only 3 episodes on this DVD for a change. According to play.com it should have 4, and according to TvTome it also says I'm missing an episode.

8.9 Sacrifices

8.10 Endgame

8.11 Gemini (I'm missing this episode from the DVD and the DVD cover)

8.12 Prometheus Unbound

Can anyone tell me what is up with this?

Contact Play.com, my Tintin anniversary set was missing the 4th DVD out of the 10 boxset - got it in the post and they refunded the postage costs to me.

Radish?

Well the wierd thing is, the cover of the DVD (front & back) doesn't mention 'Gemini'...just the three episodes instead of 4.

P.S.

I didn't get it online, I just used play.com because they had the information...soooo confused.

Gemini:

Unscheduled offworld activation: Lt. Col. Carter's IDC comes through, but it's an old one. A text message follows: "Send M.A.L.P." The M.A.L.P. telemetry shows that the person sending the transmission is Carter. But Carter is in the control room at Stargate Command.

The Carter on the other side explains that she was made in Samantha Carter's image. She is a Replicator, created by Fifth, the Replicator leader smitten with Carter. Struggling to reconcile the original Carter's copied feelings and her own Replicator programming, Carter 2 asks that she be destroyed via the disruptor ? the only weapon effective against her kind.

Carter convinces O'Neill to allow a meeting between her and her Replicator twin on the Alpha site. As Teal'c trains the disruptor on Carter 2, she tells Carter that Fifth is coming to this galaxy to conquer it; because Carter 2 shares Carter's feelings, she doesn't want Fifth to succeed. Carter tells Carter 2 that the Asgard have amplified the disruptor effects to repel a large-scale attack. But Carter 2 says that the Replicators, herself excluded, are now invulnerable to the disruptor.

Carter 2 secretly communicates with Fifth through subspace, telling him that the humans are beginning to trust her, but she needs more time.

Carter 2 tells Carter and Teal'c that Fifth was able to introduce a cipher into the Kiron pathways that control the molecular cohesion of all Replicators. This is how he was able to counter the effects of the disruptor. Carter asks Carter 2 to access the cipher through the Replicator subspace link so they can use it to modify the disruptor.

Carter 2 senses that Fifth is on his way and will arrive in two hours. She again communicates secretly with Fifth, telling him that she's almost done with her mission; Fifth never had a cipher to protect the Replicators from the disruptor. Carter 2 has been analyzing the disruptor to create one for him. It will be ready when he arrives.

O'Neill, hearing the news of Fifth's coming, gives Carter one hour for her and Carter 2 to remodulate the disruptor. After that, Carter 2 must be destroyed and the base evacuated.

In the meantime, Thor has sent to SG Command a disruptor satellite, which Teal'c places into orbit using an F-302. Carter 2 finds the cipher and creates a program to remodulate the disruptor beam &? but Fifth has already arrived.

Carter 2 activates the unmodified satellite, destroying Fifth and his ship. All this was a ruse by Carter 2 to study the disruptor, make herself immune to it and betray and destroy Fifth. Now she will make all her Replicator brethren immune, as well.

Teal'c tries to destroy Carter 2 with the disruptor, to no avail. She battles her way through the Stargate. Teal'c grabs hold of her arm, but she leaves it behind and it crumbles to dust in Teal'c's grasp.

The cells of the Replicator dust are inactive, but Carter, blaming herself for becoming too personally involved with her twin, is intent on analyzing them to find a way to beat the now completely invulnerable Replicator race.

After a lot of research and some help from a friend, we came up with the answer. In Season 8 there are only 20 episodes as opposed to Seasons 2-7 which has 22 episodes, so for DVD's 40 & 41 there will be 3 episodes per disc, and it looks likely that volumes 42 & 43 will also bear 3 episodes.

It's an interesting marketing strategy.

- If they kept with 4 episodes per disc then there would be a total of 5 DVD's released.

- If they mix both 3 & 4 episodes per disc then there would be a total of 6 DVD's released - so they're making more money technically.

One could argue that they're trying to keep with 6 discs per season...or, one could agree that this is purely down to marketing (and of course distance between DVD release dates). Nevertheless - I'm still collecting them all :)

I could be because episode #8x18 is 90minutes, and the episodes before and after are both 2 parters.

This would be my guess is for the release plan

    • Those are some popular multiplayer games. But hardly "all". Just those that don't work on Linux currently due to specific anti-cheat implementations. I think it's also fair to point out the literally thousands of games that don't work on the PS5. And it's not locked at 1080p. That's the default, which you can change.
    • Ubuntu Livepatch arrives on Arm64 to eliminate system reboots for kernel updates by Paul Hill Canonical has just announced that its Livepatch service now supports computers with Arm64 processors. For those who are not familiar, Livepatch allows users to apply important kernel updates without any service interruption or rebooting. While home users will benefit from this, it’s even more important for critical machines that absolutely should not be going offline at all. The feature is available as part of Ubuntu Core 26 for Arm64 and Ubuntu Core 20 and onwards for AMD64. According to Canonical, this will improve the security of systems that aren’t security-maintained daily or weekly, and it helps organizations work towards Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance. If you are familiar with Ubuntu, you probably know that most packages can be updated without having to restart the system. There is one big exception to this, and that’s the kernel; it typically requires you to reload the system to boot into the new kernel. With Livepatch, Canonical has done something so that you don’t need to restart to begin using the new kernel. Aside from Ubuntu Core 26, users with Arm64 chips running Ubuntu 26.04 LTS can also use Livepatch. If you want to learn more about Livepatch, check out its product page. There, you can also find a button to join Ubuntu Pro (it’s free for several home devices) so that you can enable Livepatch. By linking your computer to Ubuntu Pro, you will also extend the life of your Ubuntu install from five years to ten years. If you are running Ubuntu, let us know in the comments if you have been looking forward to this feature on your ARM-based computer. If you’ve had a compatible AMD64 machine for a while and never used this feature, let us know why in the comments!
    • Meta announces a major leadership change at WhatsApp by Pradeep Viswanathan Meta has announced a major leadership change at WhatsApp, with Will Cathcart stepping down after seven years of leading the world's largest messaging platform. CRED CEO and founder Kunal Shah will take over as the next global head of WhatsApp. CRED is an Indian fintech company focused on creditworthy consumers. As part of the transition, Meta is also making a minority investment in CRED through its Series H funding round. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Will Cathcart will remain at Meta and move into a new role focused on building new products from the ground up. Cathcart led WhatsApp during a major growth phase, helping the app reach more than 3 billion users worldwide. He also played a key role in expanding WhatsApp’s business offerings while keeping privacy and end-to-end encryption central to the product. Meta’s Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox, said Kunal Shah was selected after a search for a leader who understands WhatsApp’s global scale and future potential. In a leaked internal memo, Cox described Shah as a “serial founder” and one of India’s most respected entrepreneurs, adding that he brings “entrepreneurial energy” and a strong product mindset to the role. As part of the Series H funding round, CRED is raising ₹8,550 crore, or about $900 million, in a round led by Meta. The funding values CRED at ₹43,239 crore, or about $4.5 billion, on a post-money basis. It is important to note that this investment will not give Meta access to CRED customer information. Kunal posted the following on X regarding his new role at Meta: Although Kunal Shah will be stepping away from his operating role as CRED CEO, he will retain his personal shareholding in the company.
    • It wouldn't be hard for me to turn off my TV, if I had one. For one thing, I never scroll Instagram. The only reason I have an account is because Meta created one when it merged the account systems for its various services.
