Nintendo Revolution.

and you apparently haven't priced a decent cpu, motherboard, ram, video card and hard drive recently, have you?

you can't play current games on a $300 - 500 PC.  Just the video card required to play games like HL2 and Doom3 are almost the price of a whole console.  So just buying a good computer is not really an option for a lot of people.

Anyways, i'm very skeptical of nintendo these days.  I hope i'm wrong, but it feels like they have fallen on hard times, and are just coming up with gimmicks (DS) as new products.  IMO, games have been graphics driver since the day they were invented, and the progress of graphics is the only thing constantly improving.  The stance of "graphics don't matter" is something i honestly don't believe is true, or else most games would still be playing atari, and no one would have a ps2 or xbox.

again, i really hope i'm wrong, but IMO, the graphics need to be as good or better than PS3/Xbox, AND they need to have something innovative.  otherwise it's just gonna be the same old games all over again.

I've been playing games since I was 5 years old, and if there was one thing i noticed about games. They lost their feel from back in the day.

I have many reasons why I choose Nintendo. but the one reason that keeps me bringing back is the one reason everybody hates nintendo for. its "kiddy" image. Nintendo games are the best multiplayer by far in my opinion. Its easy to get all your friends playing Donkey Konga, and any Mario Party title. But i'd say onlly 60% of my friends like HALO (I also hate HALO personally). Super Smash brothers is a must (N64 version = YAAAAAAAAa :woot: ). Zelda 4 swords has one of the most perfect and innovative battle modes i ever seen. Nintendo knows what I like and my friends like, and if you can see past the curtain youd see that Nintendo has its kiddy image for a reason. its just fun!

People are ranting on about graphics and how they are to be better. Sure they can be better. But is that all your expecting in a next generation console? :o I was raised on Monkey Island and the Original Mario. Graphics back then didn't mean a thing and to this day they still don't mean a thing to me.

What i look for in a console is good 4 players (not online). Nothing beats getting together with a bunch of friends and beating them at Mario Party/Mario Kart/Super Monkey Balls/Donkey Konga. Mario Party is the best (i have a friend who has a funny voice and cant speak into the mic quite right  . you could **** yourself laughing.)

to sum up what i just wrote. Nintendo is perfect as they are, I couldn't ask more out of them. I don't regret buying a gamecube. and they make 90% their games the way i like them (unlike other companys that put graphics over gameplay.. etc.). Although I am not knocking the x-box or Playstation 2. Some of them do have my type of games. They just don't have as much of the same type of games I like.

As long as this post is, i could rant on for pages about why I prefer Nintendo over the competition. but like i said above. They make the best party games by far

games arnt what they used to be....graphics over gameplay. Mario 3...ahhh metriod...ahhh (metriod zero..too easy). Bring back the NES/SNES and Genesis game days, thoses were games, no Hollywood-like big budget games like today. Damn it when you get an extra life it should say "1 UP" (Mario). FPS are all looking the same, Halo wasnt special, i had more fun playing Tribes online. Nintendo is just fun, Mario, Link, Samus (she could kick the MC butt without a sweat (sorry, that was the kid in me)). If you didnt grow up on Nintendo like some of us then you really never played real games...It not your fault :pinch:

Zelda baby

I think after this generation it will be time for Nintendo to bow out of the console market. They should stick to what they do best: Making Nintendo games.

I bought a GameCube but I never play it. It was great for Smash Bros for a while but that's really the only game I have any interest in playing on the 'cube (I'm sure Metroid Prime is great but when I played it I didn't get hooked). The controllers are the lamest excuse for ergonomics ever concieved, and I feel like I'm going to crush it in my hands. They couldn't even pull off a decent Mario or Zelda game (Wind Waker was okay for the three dungeons it had. But it had so little content compared to its predecessors).

They haven't done anything innovative and have completely failed to have any sort of Online strategy.

Now, if they made games like they used to and made them for Xbox... I'd be a fan again.

along that same train of thought, you also can not say you are not impressed with microsofts and sonys entrys. when we were growing up, it was sega and nintendo man. you couldnt even think of anything else, now you have these other two that jumped in, and like it or not, they made their entry well. i like the gamecube a lot, i love the xbox the most (but only because i use it as a media box, due to all the hacks available, i never play games on it except for nes and snes ;) ) and ps2 has the standing and majority of games, you cant deny it. nintendo now has competitors. it really boils down to us nintendo kids realizing that "hey, this is an industry, not just games" as we once thought it was. the revolution sounds pretty keen, from the limited data available, but when it comes down to it, i will buy a revolution, but i also bet that i will end up with a ps3 because sony is known for designing their gadgets well, games, tvs, everything, hold a psp and tell me it doesnt LOOK cool. the young ones will snap it up, and their parents will get it for them. as much as we all hate to admit it, nintendo is in for some rough times. nintendo used to be synonymous with gaming, but go out and ask someone on the street now what they think of when you ask them about video games, and you will most likely hear an answer based on what their kids want. nintendo was the BEST for us when we were kids, but we are no longer, and how is nintendo tailoring to them now? i dont want to see mario or zelda end up like sonic, but lets face it.... the revolution is either going to make or break nintendo.

you know how to cast your vote...

I'm expecting good things from the Revolution. There's no reason why Nintendo should stop making hardware - they're always making good stuff. And Re: the DS going the way of the Virtual Boy - there's no way it's doing that. Have you tried Yoshi's Touch 'n Go? That's one of the biggest reasons to buy the DS right there :-)

Nintendo is great, but honestly the last time I checked... those great titles are all made of Nintendo itself [Mario, metroid, StarFox, DK, Zelda] It's very hard to find a third party title... yeah yeah RE4 I will get to that.

What I want to say is that Nintendo is surviving with it's own game and great game companies are all moving toward Sony and Microsoft. This is certainly not a good sign. The DS from it's release til now, there isn't any title that common ppl can find, except for the metroid demo and dk [titles from Nintedo itself].

Take a look at PSP there're alredy several titles to choose from and only Wipe out [is from Sony].

And about the RE4 I mentioned earlier, the game carries the "only for GameCube" stamp and guess what I found RE4 PS2 2006 so far for the "Only for...."

So what's point of all this... does any nintendo fan feel happy about that... I guess not, and does Nintendo care about it's Fan? sure it does, but can it do something about it? no! because Nintendo is not like it used to be... [sadly, but true] Capcom just have to pay Nintendo and things are resolved.

I'm quiet sure Nintendo Revolution will be very original, may be its a totally new concept of gaming itself. But stiil it has to fight... through XboX360 and PS3 to get to the top.

A pesonal note: I think Sony made it this far because of its "easy-copy-pirated" games, same for Xbox, everyone know that u can get a copy of FFX just for a few dollars, and don't mention asiatic countries.... And if paying is too much for u? just get a HD and download all the img u like from P2P programs. Is GameCube that simple? guess not.

So not being honest and dont play fair will eventaully get u to the top. But when u are at the top everything goes back to "fair play". Check out PSP and it's unique Media Format.... even somebody crack that thing buying the same media it's totally new story. That's what happen when u are on the top and u start to worry about your game media security issues, "cuz I'm #1, everyone has my console, it's time for me to squeez the juice from the software."

But what happen if u are not #1 and u want to put an "almost" uncrackble media format? u will loose market share little by little and the only one who buy your console will be your fan from the past glory... but trust me on this, It wont last long.

So what am I proposing? that Nintendo use plain DVD-R 4.5Gb for it's new "Revolution"? nop... why? because Nintendo is standing on a unique possition. That is they make their own titles.... :pinch:

To the above post u hit it right on. ive been thinking for a long time that sony only had a good console is because of ease of pirated games. And i believe sony knew about it an this is why the ps2 was easily hacked. They make a console easy to hack an pirate so they can sell more consoles and do it secretly not to **** of game developers. but in the end its catch 22 cuz u get more people buying the console although only for the wrong reasons but since more people have it, more developers develop for it. And trust me Sony will do the same thing with ps3. Microsoft is actively trying to combat this by disabling any xbox that logs on to xbox live with a modded system. Sony does nothing an doesnt care. When I went to pacific mall recently ( a chinese mall that has alot of cool stuff including a bunch of pirate game stores) They dont have xbox games anymore because microsoft is going around sueing anybody who sells pirates. but the company with the big S will never do anything like that and merely do staged arrests an stuff to make the developers happy.

Nintendo has always been about the games and not about the extras. Having a good piracyprotection gives Nintendo more money from the users. They actually buy all their games. Also Nintendo is the only one who actually earn good profit from their consoles and games. That's why they got billions saved up.

I personally think Nintendo really got something when they say performance is starting to have no really meaning anymore. It's time to think about other things than graphics because soon there will be no improvement in it. And then graphics will be "meaningless" and just be a standard in games.

Go troll another forum.

It's my opinion. Don't like it? Ignore it. The last decent console they made (for the time) was the N64, I happened to like that. The GameCube may have been okay, but it was not up to the same standards as the PS2 and the XBOX.

What standards are you talking about?

Let's just say, I'm not a Zelda fan.

585836430

Wow, that's one lousy answer....

Do you really belive Nintendo is just about Zelda? If you start looking outside your box then you'll see that GC have about the same games that the PS2 and X-box have except of the exclusive titles.

What you actually get on the GC is unique titles that no other system have and more uniqe games than X-box and PS2.

People should starte realize that Nintendo is not all about Zelda and Mario. Although those are titles that you shouldn't miss because they are the best of the best.

Exactly, they'll never attract the "mature" (read: pubescent 13 year old) crowd if none of the games will even let you kill a hooker.

And what is with Zelda, he doesn't even have a gun?

I was using that as an example. What I'm gettin at is that I've never been much of a fan of games on the Nintendo systems. Goldeneye was by far the best play for me.

585836473

Don't be an ass... Try RE4 and kill your hookers

If you try watching any images of Zelda, you'll know that your character is Link and why he doesn't have guns... I really don't know... Mabye because they don't have guns? Yes that must be it :hmmm:

Nintendo is original but uninnovative.  I really don't think there is room for them in the next gen console market.  They should just develop games.

585834839

Yeah, the big N never innovated.

No sireeeee!

They didn't bring you the analogue controller or the rumble-pack we take for granted in this day and age.

The XBox has a game that would probably have done pretty well on the cube, namely I Ninja. Most of the other games feel like more of a rehash (with notable exceptions like KOTOR 1/2, Jade Empire etc.).

Thing is, Nintendo aren't bull****ting when they're calling N5 the "Revolution".

Watch as MS and Sony will try to copy whatever marvelous features the Revolution has.

585836401

The XBOX and Gamecube both have considerably more advanced hardware than the PS2. The PS2 came out a full year ahead of them, and it's painfully obvious by now. Saying that the Gamecube isn't up to the standards set by the PS2 is a joke. Now that being said, I do have to admit that I haven't even touched my Gamecube in over 3 months. I've been playing Halo 2 and now Jade Empire almost exclusively and nothing has come out on the Gamecube that has really interested me recently. I haven't bought a game for my Gamecube since Wind Waker!

To tell you the truth, I think XBOX 360 is going to rule the US and European markets. All of the people that I know that own a PS2 have been very disappointed in the games they have been getting when compaired to the games I can get on XBOX, and Microsoft is getting some MAJOR talent behind XBOX 360. I doubt Cell will give Sony much of an edge, the other two consoles are using similar IBM technology in their consoles (XBOX 360 will have multiple PowerPC processors, and I'm betting Revolution will also, if not a multi-core processor), so they'll all be similarly powerful from a brute-force standpoint. The question for the next-gen is the underlying graphics technology and the games. Both Nintendo and Microsoft are going with ATI for their graphics technologies, but I'm willing to bet MS will have some more powerful graphics than Nintendo's system. Nintend and Sony alike always skimp on the more advanced features and on graphics memory. Sony is a big ? as far as graphics technology, but I have to say that the Graphics Synthesizer (fancy name for the GPU) in the PS2 was just not up to snuff even for that generation of hardware. The Dreamcast actually had a better GPU than the PS2, but that system never made it to maturity. Sony will have to step it up and pull something amazing out of their hat to compete with whatever ATI is developing for MS. Also, Live is the best online gaming system that has ever existed and Sony and Nintend will never be able to offer what MS can in that arena. MS also has a huge gun called Zenon, which is their development platform that spans from Windows to XBOX to mobile phones and beyond and looks to be very powerful and flexible. The technology demos for the Zenon development platform are VERY impressive, and they were supposedly running on hardware similar to but not as powerful as XBOX 360 (probably the early testing/development machines which were Dual 2Ghz PowerMac G5's).

That said, I still think the XBOX 360 will bomb in the Asian market trying to take on both Sony and Nintendo who have deep ties in that region. Their gaming habits differ greatly from American/European gaming habits, and Sony and Nintendo know that market much, much better than MS does or ever will. I think it will take a miracle of advertising/PR magic and an unprecidented games lineup for MS to make a dent in markets beyond the US and Europe.

Thanks for the very detailed rundown. I was merely pointing out the success story or the PS2 and XBOX in relation to the GameCube. Personally I think it's down to the games released on the console as opposed to the consoles hardware itself.

I think at this point I should add that I don't own any of the consoles. I'm more of a PC Gamer... and I haven't played a PC Game in a LONG TIME.

I used to love Nintendo to bits, always guaranteed an awesome enjoyable gaming experience without fail. IMO Nintendo is all about the gimmicks thesedays, they rely on all the 2 minute wonders like touch screens and nonstandard joypad and to be honest its wearing a little thin. Theres a reason why 3rd party dont touch them with a bargepole. While i agree that being "all about the games" is an awesome standpoint but they are being left behind in the increasing "digital media" age, while the other consoles have dvd players, the ability to play music and online gaming, Nintendo insist on keeping their consoles extremely basic.

Dont get me wrong im by far a troll on Nintendo, ive had every Nintendo console right up to Gamecube but i refuse to buy NDS, ill reserve judgement on Revolution but i can see its going to be another gimmicky toy....

I got my Xbox asap and enjoyed it but in retrospect wasn't worth the cash I dropped on it. In the end I had problems with my console and ended up getting about $300 worth of freebies. I recently sold it as It just wasnt doing anyting for me anymore.

I don't understand you people who say "I am going to buy this no matter what just to support them". You should be buying a product based on how much entertainment it will be able to give you not because nintendo was great. Dont get me wrong NES and superNES and N64 were all great consoles. But recently nintendo just hasn't been able to realisticly compete.

Right now Ill look at PS2 and XBOX 360 and if either of them show me something i think is worth the 300-400 bux I will buy them same with revolution whenever that comes out. I wont just say I liked version one of something im going to blindly buy version 2.

I don't see how the touchscreen is a 2 minute wonder... I find it to be a very good controller. FPS games especially works very well on it. Developers have barely scratched the surface when it comes to using the touchscreen and the mic. And saying it's a gimmic I really don't understand the point there...

I think after this generation it will be time for Nintendo to bow out of the console market.  They should stick to what they do best:  Making Nintendo games.

585835914

You people make no sense. Why should they bow out of the console market?

The ironic thing is that Xbox has posted losses for all but one quarter, the Sony PS2 makes money, but that profit is cancelled because it is too small and Sony's other divisions have massive losses, yet the GameCube is the only one that makes a profit -- and Nintendo is the one dying and should quit making consoles?!

Man this is ridiculous, alot of you need to check reality and get your heads out of the clouds.

So you'll reserve judgement, but you're already judging that it'll be a gimmick, and that DS can never prove itself

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
