phoe*nix Posted April 30, 2005 Share Posted April 30, 2005 I bought an AMD Athlon 2800+ 333mhz FSB 512kb L2 cache Barton core. It's on a PC Chips M484a motherboard. It's only running at 1250mhz. Am i right in thinking it should be running faster than that? If so can anyuone tell me how to get it running faster? thanks. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Max Veteran Posted April 30, 2005 Veteran Share Posted April 30, 2005 Your CPU is running on a 100Mhz FSB. You need to change it to 166Mhz in the BIOS. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What ram are you running? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
phoe*nix Posted April 30, 2005 Author Share Posted April 30, 2005 Crucial 512mb DDR 333mhz PC2700. Something i've been wondering for a while, what does the PC2700 bit mean? thanks. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Kreuger Posted April 30, 2005 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Boot Into the BIOS it has 4 settings for speeds it should be running at, or at least with my Asus board it does. EDIT: It might just be a feature by Asus but I have four settings in mine, one is 1250mhz, another one abit higher, then I believe it's 2083mhz which is what the processor is clocked at and finally 2500mhz. I run mine at 1250mhz because it's fast enough. I think the 2500mhz is set in there for over clocking purposes. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

PC2100 = DDR266 PC2700 = DDR333 PC3200 = DDR400 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
phoe*nix Posted April 30, 2005 Author Share Posted April 30, 2005 I changed the CPU Frequency Detection to manual and the CPU frequency to 166mhz. it now runs at 2.1ghz. thanks folks :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fegul Posted April 30, 2005 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Just a question, how hot does your CPU get? I have a volcano 12 and AS5 on mine, and my idle temp is 42-44 C! I'm thinking it should be lower than that. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ninjakinshu Posted May 29, 2005 Share Posted May 29, 2005 Holy cow, I have that EXACT SAME PROBLEM. AMD Athlon XP 2800+ reading as 1250 - the instructions seem simple enough to follow, but when I change it from 100 to 166, my computer won't even boot. PC2700 ram is what i got and an ABIT NF7-S2G motherboard. My machine is made for gaming, so I'd like to run that 2.1 ghz :( Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

rootwiler Posted May 29, 2005 Share Posted May 29, 2005 Go into your bois and set your Front Side Bus to 166 - it is running at 100 if you are running at 1.2. If you Change it to 166 you will run at 2.08. :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mrchetsteadman Posted May 29, 2005 Share Posted May 29, 2005 They may have to switch the jumpers on the board itself... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
voidpharoh Posted May 29, 2005 Share Posted May 29, 2005 In your CMOS, your FSB should be set up to run at 166 and not 100. If you set it to 166 it should correct the problem. Well ehhh. Coldgunner Posted May 30, 2005 Share Posted May 30, 2005 pc2700 = 2700mbps theoretical bandwidth, which is also DDR333. I have dual channel pc2700, which is 5400mbps theoretical bandwidth Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

scaryperson27 Posted May 30, 2005 Share Posted May 30, 2005 Whenever you first start a motherboard with a new CPU or clear the Cmos, it will start up in a sort of safe mode. Thats exactly what yours did. Now what you need to do is go into the BIOS and look for your cpu clock and clock it up to 166mhz. the stock clock for your cpu is, 2.083hgz 2083mhz. ninjakinshu Posted June 3, 2005 Share Posted June 3, 2005 ok this is strange - my computer is being erratic. at times It freezes after detecting IDE drives, and at other times it boots up normally. Just what the hell is going on in there? Note - it only freezes if im clocking it from 100 or 133 to 166. But as of this writing, it is officially working (sorta).
