Final date is unknown, but if you wanna' use EAX then you can :)

I'm using an Audigy 2 NX, but I'm using a Fibre Optic (Digital Out) so I won't be able to use EAX :( but it's still interesting.

Doom's internal audio architecture utilizes audio effects that run at a 22.05kHz sample rate. This offers a good compromise between audio quality and sample size. With Doom 3's native audio engine, these audio effects are then upsampled to 44.1kHz on playback. While this design yields good results, the Creative Sound Blaster implementation brings its hardware based sample rate converters into play to make it even better. Any software based SRC process has to balance the tradeoff of CPU versus audio quality. As a result, linear interpolation is usually used for upsampling, with the downside that "audio jaggies" tend to occur - slight distortion or coloration of the original signals. Creative's hardware DSP deals with this by applying 8-point interpolation as part of the SRC process - "audio anti-aliasing"! The result is smooth, high quality audio every time.

So what does this mean? What's so good about it?  :ninja:

If you've got a Creative Audigy 2 or higher soundcard then that means you have the hardware to run it. You will also need a surround sound system 5.1 or higher.

This will explain EAX (taken from Creative's forum):

PC Games

PC games usually use technologies like as EAX to create surround sound, not Dolby Digital.  So even if your speaker system has a Dolby Digital decoder, it will be of no use when playing games.  The EAX processing is done on the soundcard, and the 6-channel sound is output via the analogue (or digital DIN if available).  So you still need analogue connections to your digital speakers for games, if you just use an optical/coax cable you will only get the front left/right sound.

(N.B.  X-Box games do support Dolby Digital, so if you connect your X-Box to your Dolby Digital receiver/speakers with the optical cable, you can get full surround sound.)

We STILL need the DOOM 3 1.3 Patch before we can use EAX in DOOM 3. Until then, these drivers are useless. All they do is add support for OpenAL, which DOOM 3 uses, and since they had a lawsuit coming from Creative, they decided it'd be better to play ball and integrate EAX in the game. It's taking a long time to do it so far!

      Keep in mind Intuit has lobbied like crazy to keep taxes complicated so they can continue to sell tax software. They also got caught hiding their legally mandated free version so they could release a second one that pushed countless people into charges they didn't need to pay to file. Intuit leads the charge on inventing problems so they can sell you the solution and disrespecting you in the process.
