negative, as stated above, posters that have more stars, USUALLY, have something extremely meaningful to say. what i think we should do, is get rid of all the people that have alot of stars and have nothing meaningful to say at all.

No but maybe some bot would slow down their repetitive post...

You forgot one. :D

I voted no, post count combined with join date and a quick search of all posts by the member can tell you wether or not the person replying in your thread is a habitual meaningless post ######, or maybe just had a one off with a "nice one" or "lol  ".

I like the post count, but I feel there should be more reprecussions for spamming the board with useful "congrats" posts, etc. Then again, I probably just don't notice when punishment is given out for those offenses, so we should just keep the system the way it is.

I'll admit it, I'm very postcountist. You low posties, as I like to call you, aren't even human in my book. Total scum.

holy crap man u have so many posts but really why do u care about the stars and posts it not that big of a deal man

I honestly don't believe removing the post count would do much to stifle the people that make comments like lol or congratz...or post only smilies all the time. People are gonna do it regardless....but that's just my opinion. And really I don't mind seeing posts like that anywayz, I just move right on to the next post :)

Although I admit I find it humerous when somebody with tons of posts makes a post just saying "lol" or something like that but turns right around and busts on somebody that does the same thing

i think the post counts are stupid. i find it incredible that members such as bangbang and others have so many posts and each one is worthwhile, but i think that the annoyance of "lol" and "congrats" and "this is stupid" and "hey you only posted to raise your post count, wait so did i" all severely detract from the quality of these forums (the only ones i frequent). as you can see, i've been here nearly a year and have less than 200 posts, even though i love this place. i only post things that i think contribute to a discussion, and i think that is more important than post count or star number.

also, the bandwidth/speed argument doesn't really pan out. well it would at least be less of a factor if all the stars were single stars repeated multiple times, so only one star image would load per page.

I voted no.....Do not get frid of the post count or the stars. There is a psychological pecking order here on Neowin. I know that everyone has felt it, or at least anyone that has stuck around for a little while. THere are people out there who have a lot of posts and some of them....some of mine included, have absolutely no or very little to add to the thread. Congrats, whether it raises the Post Count or not is still a congrats. People are still going to post LOL and good job. There is no way that can be gotten rid of. Actually if you were to do that, there would probably be more of those pointless posts because there would be no way for anyone to identify how many posts a person had, so the poster would have to post more to make his/her name known. So, there is a status thing, there is the credability thing, then there is the thing that says that Neowin just like it is is what makes the community what it is. This place started out as a discussion for Windows, now look at it. We are able to argue about whether post count should be kept on here or not, and post pretty much uncensorred (as long as the post abides by a few rules). I say leave it like it is.

I voted no.... Yes postcounts can encourage spamming... but, as stated before, they can also show who in our membership is active and contributing. The neowinian milestones subforum could be postcount locked, but dont do away with the counter entirely.

Yes. (Y) Stars serve no purpose and encourage immature and useless posts. Removing them would in no way hurt Neowin, and likely benefit it by helping to restore the credibility it once held. In the end, stars mean nothing. Ranking members get no special benefits. Their only real purpose is separating the 'n00bs' from the '1337s'. Is that what NW is about? or do we care about meaningful discussion and helpful threads?

I voted No but meant yes. That is what you get for not paying attention. The stars don't mean as much to me as Join date. I usually have more tolerance and try harder to help out a member that has been here longer. I also try to help the fellow subscribers more. May not be right but I'm proud to be a supporter of Neowin and think the ones that subscribe are more loyal and deserve more condsideration.

Agreed, I could add stupid posts to all the threads I read and have a huge penis, I mean post count, as it is, it's tiny- but I use it well.

I think instead of showing post count, it should just have a rank:

0 - 10: Be Nice I'm New

10-100: I Don't Post That Often But That Doesnt Mean I'm Less Worthy Of Help

100-2000: I have a life

2000-5000: The ammount i post is a tad worrying

5000+: Ignore me and hate me for i are leet spammaarrrrr

Edit: Made the ranks a bit fairer after seeing how much the people above me had posted, oh and +1

If they're removed, why would anyone bother posting?

Ermmm, dunno, maybe I am crazy, but... to help and get involve into the community?

You know, this old and totally crazy saying "quality over quantity" its not that crazy.

Post count is not your e-penis

Perhaps one of the finest specimes on this entire board to find. Read a little more of the other post, it was said-

Bingo.  If the poll was "should the post count/stars be removed", you'd see a landslide in favor of 'no'.

I decided to follow up on that idea, but obvoiously that doesn't matter to you. I can only imagine what you voted for

I vote 'yes.' I really don't see any reason for them other than ego. On the forum I help admin we have post count only displayed for admins/mods. If someone posts often enough, people will notice... you don't need a post count to tell you that. I also say do away with signature images (avatars are ok because size is relatively restricted) because it is a DISCUSSION board -- i really don't care to read the specs of your PC, what my isp and browser are (i already know, thanks, genius), or what software you endorse.

Yes

If they are removed from posts and left in the profiles and you NEED to see there stars and e-penis/post count then just look in there profile.

Makes a lot of sense to me. This way those who want to keep track of their posts can still do so. Others who rely on post and star information still have access. And those that don't care about postcount don't have to be bigoted by those who do.

Voted: Yes.

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2 to finally get one of the most requested features by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft officially confirmed Windows 11 version 26H2 with the latest build, 26300.8697, for testing in the experimental Insider channel. The company also published more details about it mainly directed towards IT admins and system admins. Essentially version 26H2 will be delivered via an enablement package (eKB) over Windows 11 25H2. If you are wondering about some of the upcoming features in the next Windows version, one of them is certainly very interesting as Microsoft has confirmed it is finally bringing one of the most overwhelmingly requested features ever. March Rogers, the Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, recently highlighted some of the Search improvements that the company is testing, and during the interaction with users on X where he posted it, Rogers also confirmed that the company is working on disabling web search results inside Search. This is something which many users find quite annoying as Windows would often serve them links to Bing which it feels could be more helpful rather than bringing up the actual object or app the user may be searching for on their PC. Finally though the company is prioritizing local file search over the web. However the feature could not be disabled for many users as not all new features are immediately rolled out to everyone. Image via phantomofearth (X) Windows enthusiast phantomofearth who likes to dig deep into new builds uncovered the IDs you will need to enable these features. Using the following feature IDs the new Search-related features landing in Windows 11 26H2 can be used. Follow the steps below to enable the new Search experience on Windows 11 build 26300.8697: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id: and press Enter. Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to restore, repeat the steps above and replace /enable with /disable in the commands on steps 5 and 6. Delightedly and perhaps also expectedly, once you disable web search and other such bloat, the Windows 11 Search is said to get snappier as remarked by another Windows enthusiast Xeno.
