switching desktop enviornments

You should have a sessions choice at your login prompt (assuming gdm or kdm login display manager). If not, try this (just to make sure everything in KDE works)

Log out to whatever login you have.

Use CTRL + ALT + F2 to switch to a TTY prompt and login there.

Type startkde to start KDE

3) I have no clue what mark posted

I was saying you can start KDE from a command prompt in one of your available TTY sessions. Then I gave some abbreviated steps on how to do it.

But it already goes into KDE, he says he wants GNOME ;)

Now, I must weigh my options at making specific posts (namely mine) disappear off the face of the server... :ninja:

If it boots up direct into a DE with no login prompt to ask for username, password

and type of session then u must be using autologin feature present on KDM.

Disable it in KDE control center, and next time u boot, the login screen will appear.

From there u can choose what type of Xsession u want to start.
