I want to buy a gb or two of ram for my powermac, i was wondering if i need to get special ram or if any regular ram would work (im on a budget so the cheapest but not too cheap)

I plan to buy from crucial so if you can give me a link that would be good

So long as the RAM is the same specs, there is no difference between Mac and PC RAM.

Crucial is the best site to find out what memory your system needs, and how it can be configured....but one of the most expensive to buy from. Check your spec sheet for the system to make sure the ram needs to be run in pairs.

Yes, the PowerMac G5's must add in pairs or else your Mac will beep at you, not boot, or not even recognize the added RAM.

This is most likely because the system accesses the RAM in pairs, sorta like Dual Channel operation on the PC side. It makes things faster. :)

So if you wanted to buy 1GB, take 2x512 or just go for 2x1GB ;).

If you wanna find cheaper RAM, go to http://www.dealram.com/ and select PowerMac G5 PC3200 from the Systems drop-down box.

crucial says you need to install it in pair, any reasons?

It's called Dual Channel Memory (google it).

For a dualy, any CL3 PC3200 should do - for a single CL2.5 PC2700 will do the trick.

Even if you can find it cheaper, I'd say, you're still better off getting it from Crucial. Guaranteed compatability and their lifetime warranty are worth a little extra.

^ yeah but you do not have to get Mac ram. Find out the CL and speed of you ram, go to newegg and get it a half the price?:

Last I checked, there wasn't "Mac ram". If you'd go to the site, you'd see it's just a comparison place for RAM prices, like Pricewatch.

And hey, who's that in the listings....:

And there are even places cheaper than Newegg too!
