Yeah, AVG rocks. But if we talk about trojan/viruses, don't forget about virustotal.com, it's also free :)

i got mcafee enterprise free off my uni. it sucks, it uses a soooo much cpu power. so yeh dont use it. AVG is the best!

Mind you, I dont actually run one on my pc lol :)

If you're saying free-free...... probably AVG..... but I stick to Nav (older), or SAV.

Avast in my opinion, having used AVG and avast, avast is better.

It's auto update is much slicker than AVG. If AVG misses an update it will wait until tomorrow to get it. Avast will update at more regular intervals.

I have also had AVG NOT remove known viruses, that it has detected itself.

I've had problems with AVG missing viruses that other free AV programs caught, and yes, AVG was up to date at the time. Clamwin is a good free AV util, and it's open source. I also like Avast and NOD32.

I have NAV 2004, and it is a huge resouce-user, though. Plus, NIS won't work! :angry:

If you look at VB test result history, neither of those three (AVG, Avast! or Anti-Vir) stand out. They all have been failing pretty badly, and all have straightened out more or less recently. So I would assume there's no win-win situation in your case, although from my personal experience I would recommend Avast!. It has a lot less memory footprint than Anti-Vir and especially AVG, which has turned into a bit of a memory hog compared to the previous versions and other free AVs. It also has a more flexible configuration and the program itself looks a lot more user-friendly.
