Girl, 11, pitches a perfect game against the boys

N.Y. Grade 6er fans all 18 batters in Little League

And her batting average ain't too shabby ? .714

OAKFIELD, N.Y.?Katie Brownell is a shy 11-year-old girl of few words. But when she gets on the baseball field, she lets her pitching do the talking.

Brownell is the only girl in the Oakfield-Alabama Little League baseball program in this community about halfway between Buffalo and Rochester. On Saturday, that didn't stop her from accomplishing something league officials can't remember anybody ? boy or girl ? ever doing.

She threw a perfect game for the Dodgers in an 11-0 victory over the Yankees.

How dominant was she? She struck out all 18 batters she faced in the six-inning victory. She never got to a three-ball count on any of them.

"As far back as I can remember, I don't ever recall hearing of a perfect game," said Eric Klotzbach, league president.

Katie said she knew she had a chance for something special in the fourth inning. Fortunately, Katie's coach, Joe Sullivan, realized that, too.

He had intended to pull Katie at some point during the game and was ready to do it when the scorekeeper told him she had a no-hitter going.

"I can't pull her out," Sullivan said after taking a look at the score book himself.

So Katie kept mowing down the opposition and completed the task. Then the place exploded.

"Everybody congratulated me," Katie said.

Katie, who is in Grade 6, also pitched a one-hitter in the first game of the year. She accounted for all 15 outs in the five innings she pitched in that game. She had 14 strikeouts and got the other out on a grounder to the mound that she tossed to first.

"She's been pitching for three years, but she's really came on and excelled this year," said Jeff Sage, club manager, who didn't get to see Saturday's game because of his job as a firefighter. "She bats really well. She's a solid, all-around ballplayer.''

At the plate, Katie's hitting .714 through the first three games.

Her sense for the game developed from playing baseball with siblings and friends.

"She had older brothers and we were always outside, so the minute she could pick up a ball, she was" playing, said her mother, Denise Bischoff.

Katie, the daughter of Mark Brownell, wasn't even going to play baseball this year, and instead eyed the softball team.

"Two weeks before the first game, when was it too late for her to switch over to softball, she decided to stick with hardball,'' Sullivan said. "Fortunately for us.''

In the Oakfield-Alabama Little League, Katie Brownell is an ace. In addition to her perfect game on the weekend, she threw a one-hitter in her first game of the season, fanning 14 batters in five innings, and got the 15th out when she fielded a grounder and threw to first.
That's pretty awesome....those are incredible numbers for that game

I'd say. So far, in three games, she threw a one hitter and she threw a perfect game. She's also hitting .714 at the plate.

This girls a perfect candidate when she grows up to be on the USA olympic softball team.

She'd draw in a lot of fans to see a AA game too.

The Tampa Bay Lightning once invited a female goaltender to camp (mostly for publicity reasons).

I hadn't thought about that... but I agree, even though it isn't impossible for someone to do that without drugs it is still better to be safe then sorry. Have her tested

You have to be kidding, right.

She's friggin' 11. Steroids can't help an 11 year old gir pitch more accurately.

I hope you're kidding.

I dont think he is kidding....I personally doubt a 11 year old female could be messing with that type of sh*t but oh well lot of strange things happen in this world.

Problem is, she's pitching overhand.  Softball is underhand.

Overhand? Where do you live - I'm curious as to where on earth they say Overhand as opposed to Overarm...

I don't know much about Baseball - put I presume getting every opponent batter out single handedly is pretty damn impressive...

You say that you don't know much about baseball but then you jump on somebody's use of baseball terminology.

Obviously you didn't research it at all. A simple google will show that "baseball overhand" or "throw overhand" will easily outnumber the overarm equivilents.

Because I don't know much about Baseball - therefore I didn't know there was different terminology. And I didn't research it, no, which is probably why I asked where he lived as I was curious as to the use of the term.

Is it so wrong to ask such a thing? Or are people getting too easily offended nowadays - anyway. Imbetween you claiming that I'm jumping on his baseball terminology, you did reveal that its merely different terminology. Thanks for the answer - I'll be sure to not ask questions in future lest someone take offense.

She (Manon Rheaume) actually played in a preseason game for the Lightning.

    • Gears of War: E-Day brings 12-player co-op, smoother traversal mechanics, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Right as the Xbox Games Showcase came to an end today, The Gears of War developer The Coalition took over to show off its next project: E-Day. This prequel project was announced back in 2024, but now we have a lot more details about its campaign, new gameplay mechanics, and even a release date. The studio says this is the first time it has managed to get the time to build the entire game in a new engine, as it had worked non-stop on new titles for years while porting classic code and assets. With Unreal Engine 5 now powering Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition says it started completely anew, with all assets, animations, environments, and others being built from scratch. The campaign will take place across three days in the city of Kalona. The story will follow the events through the eyes of Bravo Squad. This is made up of the returning classic duo Marcus and Dom, as well as the new characters Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes. Watch the trailer below to see Marcus in action without his iconic armor and gear, just as the Locust invasion kicks off. The story will draw on classic Gears novels like Aspho Fields as well, with the studio even collaborating with author Karen Traviss. "That continuity is what makes the destruction land," says the studio. "In E-Day, you watch a living city torn apart—homes still lit, meals half-finished—while people abandon their cars and run for cover. Small details—a child’s toy, an uneaten dinner—make the loss real as everyday places collapse under the Locust assault." The movement system is getting a big overhaul here. Players will be able to slide while running, jump across gaps, climb head-height covers, and even crawl on the ground to avoid fire from enemies. As for the returning horde mode, The Coalition teased a new 12-player PvE mode. This will involve three squads of Gears going up against the incoming Locusts in larger city maps than usual. The studio says that it is going to reimagine the classic formula just as co-op games are going through a resurgence. Multiplayer was touched on today too, where Versus is coming back touting four versus four Gears PVP action set across Kalona maps. More details about multiplayer will be revealed later. Open beta weekends are kicking off this August for fans wanting to jump in early too. Gears of War: E-Day is releasing on Xbox Series X|S and PC on October 6 with pre-orders available now. It will also be a part of Xbox Game Pass on day one. Microsoft has confirmed this as an Xbox platform exclusive, as there are no plans to bring it to PlayStation or Switch.
    • Microsoft announces the return of Xbox exclusives with Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft had plenty of announcements to make today at the Xbox Games Showcase celebrating 25 years of the gaming brand. Now, under the leadership of the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox games are going back to their original release methods. She appeared in the livestream itself to announce the return of Xbox console exclusives. This means two major upcoming games from first-party studios won't be coming to PlayStation or Nintendo consoles: Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition and Clockwork Revolution from InExile. Both titles will only be coming out on Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs, ditching any plans they had for PlayStation. "These are not timed exclusives," confirmed Microsoft. "We’re committed to investing in and growing XBOX both on console and beyond." The company confirmed that any already announced Xbox titles for PlayStation, under previous leadership, will continue to arrive for the rival platform. This means games like the new Halo remake, Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and State of Decay 3 will still be available on PlayStation, either at launch or later. It sounds like any new projects announced by the company will avoid other consoles in the same way. Microsoft first opened the floodgates by bringing titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles back in 2024. Since then, almost every new game release from Xbox Game Studios has arrived for rival consoles alongside Xbox and PC. This decision follows Sony's plans to ditch its own multiplatform releases too. Outside of multiplatform live service titles, the PlayStation maker is even abandoning its PC porting endeavors that started years ago.
    • I'm missing the beginning part of this equation... but for the sake of the convo, you don't get to take a $250(?) set of normally priced RAM, jack it up to over $500/600/800 just because of a market shift, then lower it back down to more than what it was originally and call that a "sale". Not the author of this post... the manufacturer/seller.
