my question is that, can it be infected by computer viruses??cuz M$ systems alwayz bring security risks..

it must be quite disappointing to see the dead blue screen on xbox360...

I am not sure about it getting viruses, but it is very likely

because of the fact that it is connected to the internet wirelessly

and has no virus protection that we know of.

Not really, it's not on the internet it's connected to XBox Live which is a closed system, plus the fact that its a different OS from the PC. Still its not impossible but it will be difficult to accomplish :)

probable but not possible... first off, you need an XDK (Xbox Developer Kit) to create code that can be executed on the Xbox, then each compiled executable has a water mark that is added to the code during the compilation of the executable code (this allows tracking back the XDK were the "malicious" code was generated). then to run properly on the Xbox that executable needs to be "certified" by Microsoft that will add a "security key" with the "ok" to the final code. in other words the Xbox will not execute any sort of code that is not approved and certified by Microsoft, this is something similar to driver install process on Windows that will tell you that the driver you're about to install is not WHQL and is up to you to install the driver or not. on the Xbox the process is as simple as this "no water mark" or "security key" is equal to not execution.

also, the Xbox Live server farm is something really secure that has one of the highest levels of security on earth, nothing will get in on out of it without notice.

rest assure that you'll never see an Xbox virus or any form...

I just love the inteface design.. if only the same ppl could work on a nice Vs for windows.... :(

i do hope no one creates an Xbox virus.. there wouldn't be much point unless they worked for Fony.

I hope someone finds a hole and make a virus.. Because it will be equal to mod. Now in xbox softmods are done by buffer overflows which is besically same idea as virus.. Just disables the security..

hehehe.. dude you gotta be kidding me...

one thing is an application that have a behavior that allows it to reproduce and spread itself and intentionally create damage and another completely different is the kind of exploit that requires the end user to go out and buy modded USB cable, a particular USB memory card, a game known to have such coding problem that allows it to run unchecked code and the installation files that will allow you to run the "custom" application... I mean, there's not way in this world that someone mentally capable can be sooooooo stupid to download a malicious piece of code and go through all this sort of complications just to run something that they know will damage a piece of hardware worth $300... :p

anyways... that was a good try... hehehe  :p

modding is bad... it makes your dick smaller...  :pinch:  ;) :shifty:

Yeah, well I still don't like this idea of creating a very powerful machine for the multimedia. They should have used their powerful hardware in PCs instead of making a console.

All I want when I buy a console is to play games, I don't want to listen to music, surf the net, chat with others, etc.

BTW, we don't know anything about the Revolution yet because Nintendo doesn't want to get their ideas stolen and I understand them perfectly. Every company is stealing each other's ideas :

- EyeToy

- RumblePack

- DreamCast's controller

- Controller buttons (L1, L2, R1, R2)

- Hard Disk

- Ability to play music

- Ability to watch DVDs

- Wireless controllers

- WiFi

- Ability to play online, downloads patches, new maps, etc.

- Xbox360 can now stand vertically like the PlayStation2...

And you know the worst of it? Some dudes from either Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo invent a technology, then their rivals just steal their technology, invest lots of money in it and reinvent it to make it better, then they release it some weeks after and they take every possible credit out of it...

Why don't you like the idea of creating a powerful machine for multimedia? You do know games are classified under multimedia, right?

Gaming consoles are turning in to multimedia stations, and Sony was actually the first one to take a stride in to it (maybe Sega did it first; I can't remember) by playing music CDs on the PlayStation, then DVDs on the PlayStation 2. Microsoft is only evolving this in to something extremely usable. I don't have a DVD player, so I'm glad my Xbox is doing it for me. I like being able to have one PC as a media storage and be able to access my files from anywhere in the house, or being able to watch my recorded shows anywhere. I also like being able to play games when I'm in the mood, and Xbox 360 is giving me that privilege as well. It's a sweet deal for a $300 machine.

AKQA, a global interactive marketing agency, has collaborated with Microsoft to create the striking new console game interface at the heart of the Xbox 360, the most powerful next-generation game and entertainment system.

The interface, which includes the Xbox Dashboard and Xbox Guide, combines simplicity and ease-of-use with cutting-edge design to deliver a fast, integrated, intuitive and modular experience.

?The Xbox 360 user interface provides an elegant way to take total control of Xbox 360 quickly and easily. The exciting reaction from customers during usability sessions worldwide highlights the power of the Xbox 360, its universal interface and design working seamlessly,? said Russ Glaser Group UI Design Manager at Xbox.

To arrive at the new Xbox 360 player interface, Microsoft and AKQA formed a multidisciplinary team of user experience, interaction design, user insight and behavior specialists, who built several functioning prototypes, working hand-in-hand with the Xbox 360 industrial design team. In-depth testing of the prototypes followed, with immersive workshops, usability sessions and interviews with customers taking place worldwide. The prototypes were then refined and re-tested.

At least Sony and Nintendo (especially Nintendo) are trying to keep their console a real one, they don't want it to become a computer...

are you sure of that? :p

"The PlayStation [3] is not a game machine. We've never once called it a game machine," stated Kutaragi at the beginning of his latest interview.

"The PS3 is the product we have been aiming for since the establishment of SCEI," said Kutaragi. "We haven't been creating our [past] PlayStations for the sake of games. Our belief, and the motivation behind running our company, has been to [explore ways of] applying the power of computers to entertainment and enjoyment. We equipped the original PlayStation with a 3D graphics chip, and we equipped the PS2 with the Emotion engine. The PS3 isn't designed to lean towards games. It's not a computer for children. In the sense that our goal has been [to create] a computer that's meant for entertainment, you could say that the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 had existed as steps towards the PlayStation 3."

those words came from Ken Kutaragi... you can read the full interview here...

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. SF935 Autotype: Specifying '\v{name}' in the autotype text will cause the corresponding value to be autotyped. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
