Netscape 8 breaks Internet Explorer XML Rendering

We?ve just confirmed an issue that has started to be reported on newsgroups and forums that after installing Netscape 8 the XML rendering capabilities of Internet Explorer no longer work. That means that if you navigate in IE to an XML file such as an RSS feed http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/rss.xml or an XML file with an XSLT transformation applied then rather than seeing the data you are presented with a blank page.

We currently have the following work around for people that are hitting this issue:

Uninstall Netscape 8

START->RUN

Type: regedit

Hit ENTER

Navigate to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension

Highlight and right-click the node titled "xml" and select delete.

Restart Internet Explorer

Unfortunately if Netscape 8 remains installed then the registry key is continually rewritten so this is an essential step if you are to be able to view XML content in IE.

That said, this is not an excuseable bug. Seriously, AOL needs to focus itself on AOL Explorer and abandon Netscape again, or vice versa.

this browser is pathetic. it really is such a bad combination of ff and ie. aol need to get their priorities straight. as bangbang023 correctly says, aol needs to choose one and focus on it. i assume aol explorer is better than this piece of crap.

I use Firefox, obviously, but yes AOL Explorer is much better than this fiasco.

Netscape adds tabs to IE and the option to use FF rendering... it is the best of both worlds (or tries to be). My question is , where it the update to fix this?

uninstalled it a while back infact the same day as I installed it...heh :)

Uninstalling it didnt fix the problem for use... we actually had to make a reg hack to get rid of it!

Another reason for AOL to dump Netscape. AOL Explorer is a better bet for them.
