Looking For Right-Click Context Menu Reg Files

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for right-click Context Menu registry files that will remove some of these shortcuts.

I want to edit my Context Menus manually. I don't want to use Context Menu Editors like ShellExView. I also don't want to hack dlls to remove any.

I'm looking specifically for registry tweak files.

So far I've only come up with a few. Hopefully some of you can contribute some of yours for me.

Here's only a few of what I would still like to remove manually with a registry file, but I do want to remove others, too. So if you have others, I would appreciate hearing about them.

Remove From My Computer Right Click:

Remove Search From My Computer

Remove Map Network Drive From My Computer

Remove Disconnect Network Drive From My Computer

Remove Show Desktop From My Computer

Remove Rename From My Computer

Remove From Drives and Folders Right Click:

Sharing and Security

Format

Search

Create Image

Remove From Music Files Right Click:

Add to Playlist

Add to Sync List

Create Shortcut

Remove From Video Files:

Add to Now Playing List

Add to Playlist

Add to Sync List

Add to Burn List

Play on My

Thanks,

Bold_Fortune

So far I've come up with these:

Oh for a second there I thought you'd removed these :| I really want these gone, I'll never use them. Stupid WMP

Found one.

You know, I've posted this classified ad on four different forums. Not much response coming from any of them. Guess these Context Menu edits are tough to come up with.

I've been looking everywhere, and I only came up with this one. (Pathetic, ain't it?)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;Remove Open With From Right Click
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Open With]

He has a whole bunch of reg files for modifying desktop icons. I think from reading them you should have an idea of how to remove, or change them

Yes & no,.. most of these are ContextMenu Handlers. :)

Here are some reg files to remove and restore some of the commands:

Sharing and Security-.reg deletes the Sharing and Security command from the context menu from Drives and Folders & Sharing and Security+.reg restores them.

NoNetConnectDisconnect.reg removes the Map Network Drive and Disconnect Network Drive commands from the toolbar, from the Tools menus in Windows Explorer and My Network Places and from menus that appear when you right-click the Windows Explorer or My Network Places icons. It also removes the Add Network Place option from My Network Places.

WMP-RC.reg removes the WMP Right Click Options (Queue-it-up, etc.) & WMP+RC.reg restores them.

[/Herby]

Context_Menu_Regs.zipFetching info...

Well Herby, given the information you gave me about the WMP Right Click commands, I fooled around a little with some registry keys.

I would only like to remove these Right Click Options:

Add to Playlist and Add to Sync List.

But I want to keep these two Right Click Options:

Add to Now Playing List and Add to Burn List

Unfortunately, your WMP Right Clicks reg file removes all of them.

I broke things down, though, to two registry files. One will remove both the Add to Burn List and the Add to Sync List.

The other will remove both the Add to Playlist and Add to Now Playing List.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;Remove Add to Burnlist and Add to Sync Lists WMP Files Right Click
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8DD448E6-C188-4aed-AF92-44956194EB1F}]

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Removes Add To Now Playlist and Add To Playlist WMP Files Right Click
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F1B9284F-E9DC-4e68-9D7E-42362A59F0FD}]

And that's as far as I can take it.

Be nice if you or someone could take this to the next level of removing only the Add to Playlist and Add to Sync List.

Hi,

I have a related problem.

I was trying to remove some of the above options in the shell menu (by haphazardly reg deleting :(), but want to preserve "Add to Playlist".

Unfortunately I can't find anyway to repair it - reinstalling WMP9 does nothing for reg entries it would seem.

Herby's reg file doesn't help either (the restore one), he mentions "Queue-it-Up", which I think is for WMP8.

Does anyone know how I can repair these shell options? I'm on WMP10 atm (XP)

Thanks!

HalcyoN101, try this one...

Afraid not, doesn't sort it...

Reinstalling WMP9 takes about 2 seconds and doesn't even reassert its associated file extensions... seems like it just assumes its working fine and exits.

Think what I'm going to have to do (to avoid a format&reinstall) is uninstall SP2 and try reinstalling SP1 to get the bundled player in there...............

Is that neat, or what. Very nice, Herby. Hey, you know when I tried that, it left only "record" in the right-clight menu...and "record" was now in bold lettering, like "play" usually is. You wouldn't know how to just eliminate the "record" would you?

Found one using RegShot and ContextEdit.

Remove "Record" from wave files...

Found another.

Actually you should change Remove Search From Drive Icon... to

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;Remove Search From Drive Icon
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Drive\shell\find]

I have other entries in shell that I wouldn't want to remove. In my case, I have Open Command Window Here installed.

Nice list. :)

Here's one you could add:

Remove Run as... from the context menu from exe files:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\runas]

Restore it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\runas]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\runas\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"

+ I think it's not a bad idea to add a restore file. ;)

edit:

You can also remove "Create Shortcut" from all files (I think it looks cleaner and you can still right click + drag and select Create Shortcuts Here) but this requires some resource hacking (more info here).

    • Plasma 6.5 brings improved Emoji Selector, better performance in Activity manager, and more by David Uzondu This week saw the long-awaited release of KDE Plasma 6.4, bringing better window management and a whole lot of color management features. Apart from the release of 6.4, the KDE team was able to get other work done, and this was all outlined in the latest issue of This Week in Plasma, which details what is coming down the pipe for future versions. Looking ahead to Plasma 6.5, the developers are making some notable changes to improve performance and general usability. To prevent its database from growing endlessly and causing performance problems over time, the Activity Manager service will now only store the last four months of your history by default. The Emoji selector app is also getting a much-needed redesign that makes the window more compact and moves the sidebar button to the header for a cleaner look. Other little details for 6.5 are being polished up too. The unpopular vertical line separating the date and time on the horizontal Digital Clock widget is gone; if you want it back, you can add it yourself with a custom date format. The "Add New" button has also been moved to the top toolbar in the Shortcuts page within Settings, freeing up some valuable screen real estate. The devs also reduced the minimum size of custom tiling tiles, a small but significant fix for anyone with an ultrawide monitor. In addition to that, the Networks widget's captive portal banner now uses inline header styling, so it doesn't look like a bunch of frames stacked inside each other anymore. Of course, before we get to 6.5, the current release needs some attention. Plasma 6.4's first bug fix release, 6.4.1, addresses issues like broken item selection in the Folder View widget and a bug that could cause the system to lock or suspend faster than intended. Keyboard navigation in list views in Discover feels smoother now, and text is easier to read in certain list items in KRunner. The devs also cleaned up how list items look when you press or click them in Discover. 6.4.1 also fixes a bug where the clipboard history popup would fail to select the top item, and makes the Earth Science Picture of The Day wallpaper plugin work again after its data source changed. Here's the full list of fixes: Fixed several issues in the Folder View widget that caused selecting or opening items to not work when using certain non-default view settings, when the view was scrollable, or when using a touchscreen. Fixed a bug in the Meta+V clipboard popup that sometimes failed to pre-select the top-most item. The Clipboard settings window’s shortcuts page no longer shows columns for local shortcuts that don’t do anything, since the clipboard is global in scope. Fixed the Earth Science Picture of the Day wallpaper plugin after the source data changed formatting again. Made a few fixes to the “Missing Backends” section of Discover’s settings window that kept it from working properly. Fixed a bug that prevented direct scan-out (and its performance benefits) from activating on rotated screens. Fixed an issue where the system could lock or suspend sooner than expected after an app stopped blocking those actions. Installing a new wallpaper plugin no longer causes the plugin list combobox to appear blank. The team even went back to squash some bugs in the older 6.3.6, tackling an issue that could cause keyboard shortcuts to get lost during a system upgrade and fixing an overflow bug with KRunner's faded completion text. Plasma 6.4.1 is set to arrive on June 24th, with 6.3.6 following on July 8th.
