hmmm good question, no one has helped with the new shellstyles, and I wanted to supply new shellstyles with the new version, but I suppose if enough people want it without new ones I can release it early. But like I said my computer is having really wierd problems, which I attribute to lack of power, so sometimes I can use it for hours sometimes not at all... so we'll see.

Been awhile since I visited this thread, almost forgot about it after Neowin went down :ermm: Glad to see that you've been busy working on an update (sorry to hear about your power issues). I'd actually stopped using visual styles for a bit, mainly because of SP1, but I went back to using Watercolor the other day... because it's just so damn nice to look at :D

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Neo Cyborg: I can do them myself, I just dont know how you guys want them to look. The ones included look like the sidebars from the 2419 build, but some people have complained that they wanted new shellstyles cause the ones included are ugly ;)

ps. mozilla's text input is god awful, too slow for my liking :)

To get rid of the overlay, just right click properties on my computer, then goto advanced performance settings, then click on the use drop shadows. That'll get rid of the box around the icon text.

ewwwh...is it just me or does that look bad?

Drop shadows on icon text looks extremely bad when clear type is on, but they look wicked if clear type is off :0 I never use clear type, it's blurry and it's meant for lcd's anyways :) Also if you dont like that there are numerous freeware programs to remove the boxes and even change text colour. One i can think of off the top of my head would be transtext by ChaosSoft:

Works Great, but make sure you dont have the drop shadow option on when u run the prog, or it will have no effect on the text :)

Chris

i think the point of this skin is to look just like the watercolor in whistler, not some new custom version

a new shellstyle would be nice though, maybe just the same one that luna has (or can i do that on my own?)

/edit, wow, i didnt' know you could switch shell styles so easily, can make a nice combination now

The only thing i dont like about watercolor is the color of the taskbar flashing... I cant stand that peach color!

Is it very hard to change if i were to load up style builder or whatever i need?

I've never tried theming before but i've done a lot of graphics work.

It's orange actually, I wanted to keep the flash colour the same as luna's, plus orange gets your attention. I agree taskbar flashing is annoying in the first place, I think you can disable it with TweakUI?

Its a peach color for me, not like the orange in luna. I do like the flashing though, but just a flashing of dark gray would be nicer for me.

edit: this is the color #FFB895

it looks peach!

Maybe we use different colour profiles, that would explain it :)I also seem to notic that some supposed "blue" themes look purple to me *shrug* :)

yeah, don't forget about monitors and LCDs. my crappy LCD can't display bright colors too well. it all just turns too bright and mixes with the white. as for my monitor, i try to keep the brightness to 50%, but the colors flucuate drastically as i change the %. :)

    • JetBrains launches Rider 2026.2 EAP 5, bringing several AI improvements by David Uzondu JetBrains has released the fifth EAP version of Rider 2026.2, bringing a faster startup flow with the new non-modal startup screen and quality-check hooks for Claude Code and Codex. In the latest EAP release, Rider now has newly bundled "quality-check" hooks that run background tests on code edits before the external agent proceeds. For example, after Claude Code rewrites a class, Rider immediately triggers a PostToolUse hook that analyzes the code for syntax errors and formatting warnings. It then passes those findings back to the model as feedback, allowing the agent to fix its own output before finalizing the task. If Rider detects compilation errors, the IDE prevents the agent from treating the task as complete, while minor formatting warnings simply help guide the model toward better output. The "Explain with AI" feature can now tackle tricky build errors directly from the console, helping .NET developers who frequently wrestle with multi-targeting failures and MSBuild errors. JetBrains introduced Explain with AI back in the 2024.1 release cycle. With this feature, instead of forcing developers to copy long diagnostics into a separate chat window, Rider now lets you trigger these explanations directly from the error source. In similar EAP news, JetBrains recently opened the first EAP for IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2, with features that appeal to both those who are into AI-assisted coding and those who prefer "classic" manual development. For manual developers, the release adds revamped dependency completion for Maven and Gradle build scripts, which pulls data directly from the local cache to suggest relevant versions. It also brings the Spring Debugger update, displaying security indicators next to endpoints to visualize secured routes during runtime. In addition to database migration tools for Flyway and Liquibase, this build introduces a Hibernate debugger that shows the exact SQL or HQL queries that the framework plans to execute, letting developers jump directly to the Java code that triggered them.
    • I have updated my Series 9 Watch so I assume there is either a mistake in what was said, or as suggested - the new AI feature set isn’t supported on anything other than those listed above.
