yeah i was going to suggest this you get a closer look at the UI in IE7 this way.

IE 7.0 looks like such a rip off of FF and Safari. Looks like another case of MS profiting off other people's innovations.  I don't care how good people think it is, will be just a cheap rip and theres no way your going to find me using that as prime browser.

If it's a copy of Firefox and Safari, It's going to be good! ;)

Can't wait to ditch firefox for this!  Right now I'm using IE6 with the MSN tabs extention and it's so poorly implemented... I do hope they fix this in IE7!

Can you explain why you are so adiment about 'ditching firefox' for a new version of IE? Did you know the team that worked on the tabs implementation is the same team working on tab implementation for IE? If something works well, why ditch it to go back to something that does not?

...because even though I've been using Firefox for ages... it seems shoddy. I don't know why, I still prefer IE - IE with tabs that work like those in firefox is even better ;)

Axel, as a good sort of temporary solution to tabs in IE I would highly recommend using one of the available IEShell's ... fancy name, but it's only a program that uses IE to render the pages...

IE7 looks GOOOOOOD :) loved to see what msft is doing with RSS !!!

Are you sure about that? To me it just seems that the MSN tab implementation was quite shoddy and nothing like the usual IE standard which is much higher, although by no means user quality like with Firefox.

I remember hearing that tabs in IE would be hard to do without doing a complete architectural remake. Since the MSN toolbar is just a toolbar plugin while IE7 would be an internal upgrade on IE, I would expect the IE7 implementation to be much better.

ROFL. Safari looks much better even though M$ copied them.

Don't care if it's copied. Anything will do to replace that 5 (or so) year old UI.

It is/will be very hard to implement tabbed browsing for IE. The MSN toolbar is just an application add-in, and the IE7 team is going to implement it at a much lower-level, but even though the MSN Search team is working separately from the IE7 team, they are getting API assistance from the IE team.

The IE team went to a great length to clarify that what MSN put out did not reflect the progress of the IE7 team because it really didn't wind up being very 'pretty'.

Just saw the Channel9 video. I thought the guy was exagerating when he said that it looked like Safari, but it does look actually like Safari. But partly because in Longhorn the window's titlebar and toolbar become one section instead of the current state of Windows applications where the titlebar and toolbars are separate and with distinct colors. But the RSS implementation looks most like Safari. With the feeds on the left and sorting criteria on the right. And for those who haven't seen it yet, there's an appearance by McHammer.

It's freedom of choice everyone. But here's my take, IE has alot of bloat, fat whatever. I found that I can surf much better in Firefox than IE. Also IE will have jillions of security issues starting off and always will. I've only known Firefox to have one security issue that I know of. IE will have some sort of script issue and issues out the *ss about hackers walking in through the front door or back door of the users system.

Also, IE has and NEVER will allow for a user to adjust the browser like Firefox's "about:config" feature to speed things up a bit.

All I can say is this, almost EVERY security issue I've heard of was because of the Microsoft side of the house.

Wow, the Longhorn team are cruising through build numbers, what people were talking about 5060 a few weeks ago or less, now it's at 5087? It was a bit boring, admitedly watching the ie team talk about some of the RSS features which should just work that way regardless... but eh...

Oh, yeah, IE and MS have totally copied the internet off of Firefox and Safari... I mean like... :shifty: That's how good things are supposed to work... People would never enjoy innovations on a broad scale, EVER if only one company ever did one great thing that made the product good. If this were true, we'd all be using horible products and living in a world where one person happened to have part of what we liked, and one person another...

...get a grip, you would think people would actually get tired of towing that same, IE is copying Firefox line. 10 years after Mozilla you have Firefox and you would have thought that they hatched the internet from a golden egg.

    • It is such a shame. I used to really respect Neowin's articles.
    • So.... slower fixes and slower security updates are preferred? I mean, there is no goldilocks zone here until it can literally update without ever needing a restart, and even then I'm sure someone would complain.
