The battery used in the iRiver is more effeicent, ie doesnt die after a short time. How many times have we herd of corrupt folders etc on the iPod? so many times, we hardly hear this about the iRiver, this is due to the type of hdd used :)

Read the last line in the paragraph. I believe it says " Which consistently ranked last? Apple's iPod Photo." Sound quality in iPod is worse.

about the battery, problem with ipod battery is not the battery is the users, any rechargable battery if its charged to much it will fail at the rate. plus the hdd, i managed to copput the hdd on the first day because i was messing with IPODS OS (file structure) by deleting 30mb itunes file, ipod got corrupted, which again is nothing more then user error, hdd doesn't just corrupt files by it self

another way to corrupt it by unplugging it at the wrong time, and thats true with every player, if you use it correctly there will be no problem

Firstly, its a good opionion, from people who actually know more about this stuff then most people, and this is coming from an iPod loving site. But the quality of the battery used in the iRiver is different, and is proven to stand stronger throughout time, under test conditions. Well i havnt managed to corrupt my iRiver, and my iPod did without me doing anything, same with my mates iPod mini, and about 5 other friends. All shipped back to Apple for repair, and they are all n00bs, who dont mess about with the OS and do everything to the manual, and still there iPod is corrupt. But hey, its an iPod, its expected to happen.

yes noobs, that either didn't press eject ipod from their itunes, or didn't click on Safely Remove Hardware. i got friends that own Ipods too, and one of them corrupt anything.

and your statement saying cnet is ipod loving site, what is that their new moto? "we love ipod"

how can a site love something, since when is a site alive, and if you haven't noticed at a site like cnet there is more then one person working there, and all of them have a right to their own opinion, meaning not all love or hate the same thing, so back to what i said, its all opinions.

Im saying that they are fond of iPods, but they have even said that the sound quality is the worst. iPods are designed for everyone, even n00bs, actually, mainly n00bs, due to its easy interface, but i have never seen an mp3 player break down the most other than an iPod. Even on neowin, we always have threads about, oh my folder is corrupt, when i had my iPod, the exact same thing happened, and i consider myself to have a great knowledge about iPods, as i have followed them for about 3 years. Dont get me wrong, i think they a great a somethings, they are the best at navigation, but for quality, no, and this is due to the number of errors people keep having. and yes, its all down to opinion.

i just had to reply

why do you hear about ipod problems?

well

1) stupid noobs

2) when you have a market share of what 60-80% of the mp3 market, you gonna hear about problems about the product more, then from some copany that has a share of 5-10%

BECAUSE THERE IS MORE OF THEM!!

flame war... only j/k..

in my opinion irivers have better sound quality any of the ipod range. there are ALOTof issues with curruption of data on the ipods. even mini's. say if u were to drop and iriver and ipod- most likely the ipod will end up currupted and the iriver will leave off where u left it (i mean it will be fine).

Thank you

Thank you, you have confirmed that the iPod has flaws :) and let me add, many flaws

only think i had confirmed that every product has flaws, nothing is perfect

and whith a market share of 60-80%, you gonna hear more about it then with some product that has 2-10%

thats true, but if you are ignorant, and dont bother looking up on mp3 players before you debate about them, then you rely on things like majority, but if you are like me who keeps looking into different brand of mp3 players, you will see for yourself the truth, and for me, that iPods have alot more problems than other major brands like iRiver, Cowan, Creative, although Sony is just as bad, The best way to find this stuff out is at places like misticriver, ipodlounge, and see from the owners. I keep getting my mates calling me to fix their iPods, and guess what the problem is 90% of the time? corrupt data.

Anyway, enough :p it will go on forever

absolute last post here

before making my purchase i compared h10, f20 (toshiba) various zen, i have over 10 friends with ipods, and about 10 with other various players, none of the ipod owners i know, had any problems, maybe my friends are smarter then yours.

I just bought an HP10 20GB North American version, and wanted to add a few words re: sorting and playlist functionality on the iRiver.

In short, a real disappointment.

1. You can only tranfer playlists using Windows Media Player, which doesn't always work; only automatic sync seems to do it, not manual, which is useless for me as my music collection is larger than 20GB - AND WMP sometimes screws up my playlists and is not that easy to use.

2. Limited playlists-on-the-fly functionality. You can play one album/artist/genre at a time normally, or you can queue up individual songs to the Quicklist. But you can't queue up entire albums, so it take a long time to queue up few hours of music. You can't remove files from the quicklist individually, however; you can only clear the entire list. My buddy has a Dell Jukebox he got last year that is far superior to the iRiver in this regard, and another friend has a Zen from years back that can even do it.

3. When playing by artist, it sorts by track name, not by album. Sometimes even when I play one album, it sorts by track name, not track number! Has big problems with Various Artists albums as well.

After a bit of legwork, I managed to get 1 and 3 working using a nice piece of freeware that a frustrated H10 user developed called easy h10 - see http://sourceforge.net/projects/easyh10/

however, if you are using a north american h10, you have to switch the player over to "UMS" mode (making it look like a hard drive when connected) first. To enable UMS mode:

- plug the USB cable into the unit. keep it plugged in throughout the entire process

- hit the reset button (you will need a pin or toothpick to do this)

- hold down the select button (O), and while holding it down, turn on the unit. When you see "Emergency connection" come on the screen, release the (O) button.

- copy all your music over, including all your playlists

- run easyH10, which will reformat your playlists to work on the iriver, and repair naming issues with albums. Doesn't fix various artists completely though.

These, and the poor picture display quality, and the inability to delete recordings, are my main gripes with the iRiver. incidentally, the Ipod has many of the same issues, and is in that sense worse because it only lets you use Itunes (you can't drag and drop copy).... so between the two i would go with iRiver still. But a firmware upgrade correcting these issues is -desperately- needed.

My H10 20GB iRiver arrived just yesterday, and I have a problem that I'm wondering if anyone else has run into. The "carrying case" (silicone one) that it came with isn't just really snug, it actually doesn't fit. It seems like they sent me the carrying case for a smaller model (perhaps the 5 or 6 GB iRiver H10 series).

Packaging error or did other people encounter the same problem?

best you ring iriver up and ask them.

in my honest opinion, i think the H10 is a backwards step from iRiver's kickass iRiver H3x0. no video, smaller sized screen, no USB OTG, it's buggy, it need for playlists to play songs from different, it has an ugly GUI, and it seems they don't offer driverless support anymore. evidently, the H320 contrasts the H10 in all these respects.

it seems iRiver has made a serious blunder by not improving their players and decreasing their features - one thing they excelled at during the H3x0 timeframe. worst thing is - they discontinued the H3x0 series and are trying to bury the fact they made a 'backwards step' in their new series by overmarketing the H10 series more than they did with the H3x0.

I am on my third iPod and I love it. I have never had any problems such as file corruption or anything. I have had many friends go and get iPod clones such as the Dell Jukebox, etc. They have had countless problems and spent hours and hours trying to get their simple little mp3 players to work. The iPod is king in my book because they work, look awesome, and I've never had a problem. Especially now that they have batteries that reach 18 hours of life they are hard to beat.

ipods cost too much in comparison to the little features they have.

Im standing between the iPod Photo 20Gb and the H10 2Gb. In Sweden the H10 hasn't arrived yet and while waiting I've looked after reviews all over the internet. in swe the iPod cost about 340$ which is a pretty good price for an mp3 with Photo BUT without voice-rec and radio. The iriver will cost about 440$ which i think is a little bit to much for getting a radio and a voice-rec.

I know that the iriver has better(18mW, iPod has about 12-14mW) sound but who cares, the difference is barely knownable(bad english). It's the headphones or earbuds that will make most difference. Non of the original earbuds are good but if you are very strict about the sound you would had a good pair of headphones before you even had bought the player. I think its pretty even about that. If you want absolute quality sound its the headphones you should changes.

I got some friends that have the iPod and they hasn't have any problems without that one of them's got stolen. The battery time is not as good as the irivers but who listens to music for 10-15 hours a day anyway. Dont you sleep out there

!?!

About the H10. I been reading alot about the 5 and 20gb model and i keep seeing that many has a problem with delay between the tracks that can be up to 10sec. And i don't know if i could take that + that it is a lot more expensive, at least in Sweden.

The iPod looks better than the iriver even if the iriver is really nice too so in my case i think it will be the iPod because of the price and the trackdelay on the iriver.

I know that the iriver is a bit better in the most parts but i dont think its worth it.

    • Samsung announces Galaxy A27 5G with 120Hz AMOLED display, expanded AI features, and more by Fiza Ali Samsung has announced the Galaxy A27 5G, its latest mid-range smartphone, bringing a handful of upgrades over last year's Galaxy A26 5G. While the changes aren't dramatic, they touch several areas that people tend to notice most in day-to-day use, including the display, performance, and software support. One of the more noticeable updates is the screen. The Galaxy A27 5G comes with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display that now supports a 120Hz refresh rate, making scrolling and animations appear smoother. Samsung has also switched to an Infinity-O punch-hole camera design, which leaves more room for the display and gives the phone a cleaner look from the front. Under the hood, the Galaxy A27 5G is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. The company says the new chip brings improved responsiveness in multitasking, gaming, and media consumption. The company also highlights GPU performance improvements and faster memory technology, which should contribute to smoother graphics rendering, quicker data handling, and improved power efficiency. Furthermore, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A27 5G with a 12-megapixel selfie camera that is capable of capturing a wider dynamic range and more accurate colours. Like many smartphones launched recently, the Galaxy A27 5G also places a strong focus on AI features. Circle to Search with Google now supports multi-object recognition, making it easier to search for different products or items at the same time. The tech giant says the feature can also support virtual outfit try-ons directly from compatible search results. Photo editing tools are getting some attention as well, with Object Eraser updated to deliver cleaner edits when removing unwanted objects or people from images. Meanwhile, the Voice Recorder app can now transcribe and translate speech simultaneously in one of the 22 supported languages, which could be useful for meetings, lectures, or interviews. Samsung is also expanding AI assistant options on the device, with support for Google Gemini and Perplexity alongside Bixby. The company says these assistants will work more closely with Galaxy apps, including Gallery, to simplify common tasks. Samsung continues to strengthen its long-term software support policy with the Galaxy A27 5G. The smartphone will receive up to six generations of Android OS and One UI updates, along with six years of security patches from its initial global launch. In terms of security, the device includes Samsung Knox and Knox Vault, which are designed to help protect sensitive information stored on the phone. On the flip side, while the company is positioning the Galaxy A27 5G as a step forward from its predecessor, not every change is necessarily an upgrade. One of the first things buyers may notice is the higher price tag. The device launches at $349, making it $50 more expensive than the Galaxy A26 5G's $299 starting price. The selfie camera has also been reduced from 13MP to 12MP, while the ultrawide camera drops from 8MP to 5MP. Samsung has further downgraded the phone's dust and water resistance rating from IP67 to IP64. The Galaxy A27 5G is also marginally thicker at 7.8mm. The Galaxy A27 5G will be available in select markets starting July 3 and will come in four colour options, including Black, Blue, Light Green, and Light Pink. The company will also offer Samsung Care+ coverage plans for customers seeking additional device protection.

    • Windows 10 quietly gets one more year of support and updates by Taras Buria Windows 10 reached its end of life at the end of 2025. Microsoft kicked off the Extended Security Updates program, aimed at giving regular consumers one more year of security-only updates. By doing so, Microsoft gave users more time and money to update their computers to a newer operating system or compatible hardware. Now, with the end of the Extended Security Updates program quickly approaching, Microsoft is making an important adjustment. Users discovered that the official support article for the program now lists a new end-of-support date: The Extended Security Updates program is not a new concept. It has been an official way for business consumers to continue receiving critical updates for unsupported Microsoft products for many years. However, all this time, it was a business-only, paid feature. With Windows 10, Microsoft brought ESU to regular consumers, allowing them to get security updates for Windows 10 past October 2025 essentially for free. When Windows 10 was approaching the end of support, many guessed that Microsoft might adjust its support timelines, and this is exactly what seems to be happening. Of course, Microsoft would love everyone to switch to new computers, such as its latest Surface devices, but in the days of ever-growing hardware prices, not everyone is lucky enough to have money for a new PC. Leaving hundreds of millions of customers with a Windows version that no longer receives security updates is a major risk that Microsoft is not willing to take. If you have a Windows 10 PC to enroll in the Extended Security Updates program, check out this guide to learn how to do so.
    • Sony announces Bungie layoffs that will affect "significant number of employees" by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sony today announced that major layoffs are happening at its first-party studio Bungie, the developer that has spawned series like Halo, Destiny, and Marathon over the past decades. The news arrives just weeks after Bungie delivered the final update to Destiny 2, and it's that team being hit with the layoffs the most. CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Hermen Hulst revealed the staff reduction today, calling it "painful news." "Over the past several months, together with Bungie leadership, we reviewed the studio’s long-term direction, development priorities, resource needs, and role within our broader portfolio strategy," said Hulst, explaining the decision. "We explored multiple alternatives before concluding that a reduction was necessary to align the studio’s resources with its current priorities and long-term goals." The layoffs will be hitting "a significant number of employees" across most of the Destiny franchise development team. It doesn't look like Sony is planning to continue the series following Destiny 2's sunsetting update. The studio is said to be in early stages of looking at other projects to pivot to, but it's said that keeping the size of the team at current levels is no longer feasible. "We know this decision has a profound impact on the people affected, their families, friends, and teammates," said Bungie leadership in a separate message on social media. "While these changes are necessary to best position the studio now and for the future, that does not lessen the difficulty of this moment or the impact it has on those affected." At the same time, "some" of the Marathon development team are also affected by the layoffs. The recently released multiplayer-only extraction shooter title hasn't seen a big boom of players either, but the company is reportedly hoping that the live service experience will pick up players with future updates.
