I'm checking out All That Remains on sunday. Their guitarists are sick. Should be a kick balls show.

GD their new drummer is awesome

Well, in the last week I've been listening to the new Trivium album quite diligently. I'm gonna say that the album isn't as good as their last one but the musicianship is fantastic nonetheless. I was very impressed with the construction of the songs, even though many of them seem more appealing to hard rock mainstream base. Definitely different from Ascendancy.

i like their new album the more i listen to it. it's night and day different from Ascendancy... not so much the rest of the band, more so just the vocals. if youve ever seen them live though, you know that Heafy didnt really ever scream that much on stage... i think it was inevitable for him to change the vocals.

a lot of the songs do sound like Metallica, but every song ends up sounding like Trivium. a good example is Detonation. the first 1/2 sounds like Metallica, the second 1/2 sounds like Trivium.

Some of their songs are just downright awful. Anthem isnt that great... kinda boring. the one about Unity is just ridiculous. There's another one thats bad too... typical "single" sound to it. Otherwise the album is great (excluding those 3 songs). And "The Crusade" is amazing .... what time does that song start out in anyway? something x/8...

PS: im going to see them in Columbus (OSU Campus) on Sunday the 15th. I cant wait to hear some new songs!

Just saw Celtic Frost on Saturday. 1349 wasn't there sadly though. I like them a lot. Although my friends who saw them with Celtic up north said they didn't go over that well live. Goatwhore still played though. Their new CD is one of the best this year, and they were totally incredible live.

Anyway anyone curious what Jason Newstead was up to prior to Metallica, check out the Reissue +DVD release of Flotsam & Jetsam's Doomsday For the Deceiver on Oct 31. It's utterly amazing and Jason is just a madman on this album. It's almost kind of sad to see how he went from the style he was doing with Flots, to basic root notes in Metallica.

Fear Factory, Decapitated & Suffocation stop by my neck of the woods in the next few weeks That should be a decent show. Suffo ALWAYS deliver a bad ass show.

Oh & I totally agree about Gojira they're a band to keep an eye on. They could turn out to be a great legendary band if they play their cards right.

The biggest reason I listened to the album so many times was do to a lack of anything else new to listen to. I tend to get bored with new releases fairly quick. I NEED some good black metal. I love Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, and I'm having a hard time finding anything else. Help!!!

I was actually just listening to their new cd. In my opinion it can't touch Ascendancy. I was reading one review on Ultimate Guitar and they were talking about how much Trivium sounded like Metallica on this album. And now that I've heard that I kind of agree. And it's not that I don't like Metallica. I do but I just liked how Trivium sounded on Ember to Inferno and Ascendancy a lot better. It sounded more like metal then and now their new cd sounds more like hard rock. Oh well they still kick ass and are very good musicians. Hopefully I can catch one of their shows sometime.

I actually thought both of Metallica's new songs weren't that bad. But knowing Metallica it'll be another year or more until they finish their album, if they start recording. Other than that, I started listening to The Human Abstract alot. Probably because of how similar they are to Protest The Hero. But, I've had a lack of new interests in Metal lately, the new Arsis album was a little disappointing but still good.

On another note, I heard Corrosion Of Conformity on my local rock station, which surprised the hell out of me. I have never heard CoC on the radio, let alone known anyone in person who listened to them.

Time to listen to the Meshuggah re-release of Nothing.

I love it. I don't like the screaming they had before. I always said if they had clean vocals, they'd be a much better band and I stand by that now with The Crusade. Everyone is whining how they sound like Metallica but I don't freaking hear it. You guys all have problems. Sure you can hear their influenced but it's not that much that it actually takes away from the song. To me it's barely noticeable. Someone said Matt sounds like a younger James. No he doesn't. Go listen to Kill Em All then listen to The Crusade. Completely different. I'll admit at times he does sound a bit like James did in the middle of the 1990s, but that's it. The styles and structures are completely different and so are the lyrics. Now other people will complain that Matt sounds like he's whining. I disagree. It's called singing and it's done with melody and it's great if you ask me. But you shouldn't, instead form an opinion of your own. Anyway, everyone knocks this album for sounding too much like my favourite band and I hate it. It sounds almost nothing like them to me. It bothers me that people dislike it for being a ripoff. They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. But then again most of you would say St Anger is garbage too. So what the hell do you know? You're just narrow minded metal elites. Go listen to whatever you like but stop bashing talent for imitating their influences and pioneers.

    • The Trump administration doesn't want you to use OpenAI's GPT-5.6 without its approval by David Uzondu Image via @realDonalTrump (X) As OpenAI prepares the release of its next model, GPT 5.6, the White House has instructed the company to limit the distribution of the software to a small group of government-approved partners instead of the general public, as it has done with previous releases. According to The Information, OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman sent an internal memo to staff on Thursday explaining that the federal government will approve access "customer by customer" during an initial preview phase. Altman noted in the communication that this restrictive rollout is "not [their] long-term model" for software deployment, and the company plans to work toward a "more sustainable" distribution method later. CNN said that both OpenAI and the Trump administration view the capabilities of GPT 5.6 on the same level as Anthropic's Mythos and that government officials intend to "collaborate with frontier AI labs to develop shared approaches for addressing the challenges of scaling this technology." The latest restriction comes just weeks after the US Commerce Department decided to restrict Fable, a version of Mythos with extra safety "guardrails" to prevent users from exploiting software vulnerabilities. Not long after the release, though, researchers at Amazon found a way to bypass these restrictions, prompting an aggressive response from federal authorities. The government ordered Anthropic to cut off access for non-US citizens located outside the US, non-US citizens living inside the US, and incredibly, even Anthropic's own foreign-born employees. Anthropic now appears to be building a workaround to resolve this compliance block with an update to its Privacy Policy that introduces a category called "Verification Data" to handle KYC and Digital IDs. This setup could mandate digital identity checks to filter users by nationality, requiring a government-issued ID and facial biometric data. Who knows? Maybe in the future, you would have to scan your US Passport or State ID to prove your citizenship before you are allowed to chat with Fable 5 (or any other model).
    • When Windows 7 was released I created an AutoHotkey script that uses Alt+` as a keyboard shortcut to move a window across monitors. I have been using that script for over 15 years and this is the first time I have come across another app that uses the same shortcut!
    • I called it last year that they wouldn't end support when they said there would. There are too many people still on Windows 10 waiting for something better to upgrade to and 11 ain't it! The recent promises of fixing Windows 11's many problems is nice, but unless they deliver on those promises in a big way then I expect customers will still want to stick with 10.
