Symphony X has announced that they're in the mastering process and given some tour dates. It's hard to believe it's been 4 years since The Odyssey came out.

Also, Dream Theater is releasing Systematic Chaos  this summer. Bad name... I hope it's better than Octavarium.

Agreed. I've been fiending for some new DT and SyX for a great while now!!

never could get into the new stuff, but for awile I was hung up on cradle of filth and slayer. I LOVE Slayer. Skeletons of Society is probably the best song ever written by them. I also happen to like Dimmu Borgir and Amon Amereth, but Slayer still ranks at the top.

Never really listened to Dimmu Borgir and Amon Amereth. Shall download what I can and have a listen (from HMV digital, so legal)

Ooo, can't wait to hear the new DT and Symphony X myself. I hope DT goes back to doing their own thing with their new album. While I enjoyed Octavarium, it just wasn't the same calibur as their other stuff (excluding the final two tracks of course).

lord worm was kicked out of cryptopsy.

:(

Yeah, I read that. Leaving on your own is one thing, getting "kicked out" is another. I wonder what the story behind it all is.

On the other hand, Matt Barlow is now in Pyramaze, which is quite exciting. There are also a ton of good releases coming up. I'd have to say I'm looking forward to Behemoth and Akercocke the most.

Lord Worm: "I Left Cryptopsy For Health Reasons"

posted Monday, May 7, 2007 at 01:57:59 PM by deathbringer. (thanks Blackmetal.com)

Ali "The Metallian" of the Metallian webzine recently conducted an interview with former CRYPTOPSY frontman Lord Worm (a.k.a. Dan Greening) about his departure from the group. A few excerpts follow:

Metallian: Can you explain why you are no longer in CRYPTOPSY?

Lord Worm: Pretty much because every time we went out on the road for any stretch of time I ended up catching something and killing my health. It gets worse as time goes on. It is better for my health and better for CRYPTOPSY if I leave now.

Metallian: Are you referring to something as common as flu, or something more serious?

Lord Worm: No, I have been known to come home with pneumonia, sometimes double.

Metallian: Your departure, in other words, has nothing to do with the band's music or any band member.

Lord Worm: Pretty much. The body breaks down and you have to make room for someone younger who might not have health issues.

Metallian: Having said that older musicians, let's use Lemmy as an example, seem to be continuing without a problem.

Lord Worm: Yeah, but Lemmy doesn't do what I do. That's the thing. There is certain amount of extreme activity that Lemmy no longer has to engage in - if he ever did. This includes carrying our own gear and the activity on stage. Lemmy basically stands. I don't. It takes a lot out of your lungs.

Metallian: Were you completely happy with the last album you made with CRYPTOPSY, "Once Was Not"?

Lord Worm: I wouldn't say happy; I would say satisfied with the job done. The music was already written by the time I came back into the band. I really had no saying in arrangements or specific riffs. I was given an assignment to write the lyrics and arrange them for this music. I did that. In that sense, I am satisfied that I did the job as well as I could with the constraints I was given. I am into extreme hate-filled black metal. Anything that approaches that I approve of. The more diametrically opposed to that the music is, though I might appreciate the talent behind it, it won't be the type of thing I would listen to. CRYPTOPSY has never been a band I would listen to. I appreciate the effort that would go into it, but it is not something that would go into the CD player unlike, let's say, DEATHSPELL OMEGA.

Metallian: Your statements thus far contradict CRYPTOPSY's assertion that you were booted from the band?

Lord Worm: Interesting.

Metallian: How do you reconcile the two versions?

Lord Worm: I have not really read what is being said. Interesting. When Flo and I discussed this we agreed that we might as well do it now. It is the right time to get someone in the band because CRYPTOPSY is in the writing period. We agreed that whoever the new guy might be should get used to everyone else in the band and the way the band works. Then eventually when the touring starts again the new singer would not only have the new material under his belt, but also get some of the older material under his belt as well. I haven't actually spoken to Alex since we came back from Ontario two weeks ago. I will probably talk to him this week. It doesn't bother me. Either way, I am gone. It doesn't bother me.

    • Google Finance is now out of beta with improved portfolio tracking and a new Android app by Karthik Mudaliar Google is taking its redesigned Google Finance experience out of beta and adding several new features, including portfolio tracking, scheduled market briefings, and a dedicated Android app. The company says the updates are beginning to roll out globally this week, while an iOS app is planned for later in 2026. The most notable addition is the new portfolio feature. Instead of entering every investment manually, users can upload a screenshot, CSV file, or PDF containing their holdings. They can also tell Google Finance what they own using natural language, such as the number of shares held in a particular company or fund. Google Finance will then place those investments into a dashboard showing performance, asset allocation, concentration risk, and the holdings responsible for the biggest gains or losses. Existing portfolios created with the older version of Google Finance should appear automatically. The built-in AI research panel can use the portfolio as context when answering questions. For example, users can ask which sectors are underrepresented or how their fixed-income allocation could affect long-term growth. Google says portfolio data will remain private and that uploaded files and images will not be retained. Users will also be able to edit or delete their portfolio information after it has been imported. Google Finance is also getting scheduled tasks. These let users request recurring reports such as a daily summary of overnight cryptocurrency movements or a weekly update about newly announced initial public offerings. There is also a new Google Finance app for Android. It includes watchlists, interactive charts, real-time market data, a live news feed, and the same AI research panel available on the web. Google has been gradually expanding the AI-powered Finance redesign since it first entered testing. In April, the experience was expanded to more than 100 countries, bringing its research tools, advanced charts, and market news to a much larger audience. That was followed by a wider European rollout in May, which added features including live earnings calls, transcripts, and AI-generated summaries. The ability to import an entire portfolio from a screenshot or document should make Google Finance considerably easier to set up. However, Android users will have to wait for feature parity with the web version, and Google has yet to say exactly when the iOS app will arrive.
