This might sound a bit silly and perhaps this has been asked before, but does MS (lead developers, Quality Control People, even Bill himself) frequent Neowin?

Is there any concrete evidence for this?

I've always wondered. It would be nice if they did, and if they perhaps considered some of our ideas.

Who knows? Maybe Bill is reading this right now over a coffee and smiling? I'd like that.

:D

I doubt Bill lol, But of course a few Microsofties will check here, to see if neowin is doing good or bad stuff. People like Jed, the Community guy will be because Neowin is on of the large community sites. Of course there will be evidence, NWs logs will have tidexxx.microsoft.com :)

Hmmm . . . it's conceivable that Bill might, lol. After all, it takes almost no time or effort punch in this site's address or click on it as a favourite/bookmark. I mean, I'm sure he surfs the web now and then . . .

But that's good to hear, Mx!

Sure, imagine you "own" such a company and don't read news on the internet, about your own company.

Who do you think posts "Firefox Sucks!" in various threads?

Yea, it's Big Bill himself...

:o

I'd imagine they would come here now and again, maybe even one of the regulars is a MS employee? (excluding the "Firefox Sucks!" guy :D )

Of course they do. A while back, I was chatting with someone who was apart of Windows XP SP2 because I had a firewall problem. I done a thread...and she replied to it and helped me fix the problem...and come on, Neowin is one of the biggest computer related sites on the net. Microsoft will always be coming here...

what context did he say it in? sounds suss and extremely funny.

Get a copy of "Pirates of Silicon Valley". Its a classic geek movie, and contains quite alot of history including quotes like that one, which are reported to have actually happened.

BTW hes talking about the Xerox's GUI which inspired the Macintosh, and in turn, Microsoft.

edit: Lucky you. The VHS version is being remastered into a DVD, set to be released on August 29th, 05 :D

that's awesome, funny how things went between ms and mac. Mac got ms to help build software for mac and now they're rivals.

What websites would Bill Gates look up? I doubt he looks up the news on the net, probably read the paper on his way to work or something.

Yes, people from Microsoft do read threads on Neowin. I posted about getting a BSOD once upon installing DX 9. I was PMed by someone working for Microsoft who asked if I could redo the install to try and reproduce the problem to obtain an error log for analysis.

I wasn't able to get a BSOD on the second run, but its nice to know that MS people are around and care about how well their software works.

Bill is smarter than you can ever imagine. Surely he surfs at Neowin regullary.

He's watching the tendence over the internet..

if he's so smart why does he need to visit regularly?

I reckon, we doesn't have the time to even bother with sites like these. He too has a family life remember? Not to mention a charity group as well.

But then again who really knows? He might even be playing some basic msdos games during his coffebreaks.

    • Pretty sure you will be happy with the result, good luck and take it slow!
    • Mixed thoughts. I do think MS realized it need's to re-focus on it's core while trying to get people to ultimate pay for AI. My windows machines is my gaming tower. That being said a windows machine I used as a server was just recently converted to no GUI Linux server (and it runs so much better for it's purpse), and general purpose laptop (non-gaming) that could run Windows 11 is using Linux. My work device is a MacBook Pro, and I have a raspberry PI acting as my DNS server, using linux. I honestly have more non-windows devices then devices. I don't consider myself typical user however.
    • Here is how to watch Apple's WWDC 2026 conference where iOS 27 is expected by Taras Buria It is Monday, June 8, 2026, which means today is the day Apple kicks off its annual Worldwide Developer Conference, WWDC 2026. As usual, today's keynote will be full of consumer and developer-focused announcements, including new versions of Apple's operating systems, developer tools, and more. Apple streams its developer conferences, allowing everyone to tune in and watch the announcements live. Today is no exception, so here is how you can watch it. Apple WWDC 2026 will be available to watch on Apple's official website here. Also, you can stream it on YouTube and the Apple TV app on your Apple device. The stream kicks off at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT / 6 PM GMT+1. Apple's annual developer conference usually focuses on new software experiences, so do not expect major hardware announcements. What is expected is the "27" series of Apple's operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and macOS. Apple is unlikely to introduce major UI changes, but you can expect subtle tweaks to the Liquid Glass design language, particularly on Mac. One of the biggest changes Apple plans to announce today is a reworked, AI-powered Siri. The assistant will be available as a standalone app with a chatbot-like experience and Google's AI models under the hood. If you want to learn more about what is expected today at WWDC 2026, check out our dedicated article here. However, if you prefer a spoiler-free stream, tune in at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT on Apple's official website, its YouTube channel, or the Apple TV app.
    • For we consumer readers, it would be helpful if you clearly stated in the headline if the article is about consumer or enterprise. Then readers will know if the article applies to them or not. 2 cents.
    • At the moment I have my main PC and a test PC on my work desk. The test PC is also not inverted so I am not looking at the glass panel side, which is irritating.
