Malbojia
Wow to think I was proud of my work on fixing some of the code for modules. I went through hell in back creating the system from source. But bvcmdk, I do detect a hint of gnome applications where installed. I really recommend to you try Evidence file manager although still in development and customization is through text. The meta tag responding to right click's of open the file with which application seems quite advance. This is the first compiling, other than gtk-engines which doesn't count, that I've done in over a year. Got kinda burned out after years of lfs and every kernel..and hack that blinked at me. Feels good to see the text fly through the terminal again. When I started theming gnome I was a complete graphics n00b...and still am really and was looking for something to replace the endless compiling. What only a few know is that the drive behind learning how to theme gnome was a learning base to be able to theme E17 :D . I haven't even looked into that yet, but will....and hope I can contrib to the best wm/de to be... ever, IMO. I used E16 a long time before going to gnome. Malbojia
Ah thats good be sure too read all the documentation. If you're to grab Eap's from get-e.org for the ibar and such make sure you understand e_util_eapp_edit functions. although it's a gui but you're eap's are located under ~/.e/e/applications/all. many have been made for just about everything but their command structure can be invalid. Also with the menu edits. if you made a new sub dir and it crashes using entangle. same thing applies the sub dirs get saved under the ~/.e/e/applications/entangle as static files and you see the .order which oyu can customize by hand. Feels good tweaking once again. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/352123-gnulinux-august-desktops-2005/page/5/#findComment-586377504 Share on other sites

Rob2687
Probably xcomp. From my experience is crashes a lot and not everything is compatible with it. That was a while ago though. Fotix
Using X.org's composite manager for window shadowing was horribly crashy on my system last I tried it. bvcmdk
I didn't have any problems with composite on ubuntu hoary, well except firefox couldn't handle the xorg.conf changes that were necessary, but that was/is an Xorg/nvidia/kernel issue and not related to composite. What you see in E17 screenshots comes with E17....you can see how it is set in the menu on my screenshot. Sweet! My E17 is from the current cvs. I have needed to restart E from the "restart E" crash dialog a few times today and the evidence file manager has crashed a few times but no biggy...I haven't had any freezes or had to restart X or anything major today. Rob2687
Yeah, I installed the xcomp in the Ubuntu repositories. Looks like it's dated 2004 but everything seems to run alright, not super crashy like the last time I tried it. Still a few minor bugs though. The screenshot doesn't do it justice with all the pretty fading an stuff.
