no bootscreen, only 1/2 the icons actually changed... This pack didn't really do what it should have... and i am afraid to uninstall it!

It also did something to odd files like notepad, and mspaint, but I cant see what it did! They run the same, and look no different.

Can someone email me (general.chaosNOSPAM@gmail.com) the iconpackager pack for the icons so i can get the rest in place? Thanx!

I had the same problem...the boot screen didn't work properly for me and it was too much of a hassle to customize everything manually that it didn't change so I uninstalled the pack, but some things didn't get uninstalled, for example:

When I click on the Start Menu, the vertical writing on the left says "Longhorn XP Professional" instead of "Windows XP Home Edition" like it used to say.

It also didn't change the C:\ drive icon in My Computer. Can someone help me with getting these things and others I might have missed back to normal???

It is in beta state but it is really dangerous to install it because it screws with the xp system and u get rare errors that i donnot want to begin if someone is not got ion computers then he goes in to state to RE INSTALL XP AGAIN FROIM BEGINNING>

PLEASE STOP THIS SOFTWARE BEFORE U HARM SOMEONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, please CALM DOWN!!!!!

A lot of what we post here screws with the windows xp system. Windowblinds, stylexp, the patch, and all that all modify the windows XP system in different ways. the only reason WHY those people reinstalled their system was because the UNINSTALLER did not work and they dont want the icons any more, NOT BECAUSE this software disabled or harmed their system. I havent had any error windows come up either and i havent heard people posting here that say they have some error window come up for some reason. The only time when i did have a mysterious errors was when i used Stardock's Bootskin program where my computer wouldnt boot.

I have used this customization pack for over a week and it has been great. I have also used similar software before and none of them did anything bad to my computer.

Still, isnt there a way to do a manual uninstall? I believe the install progress said that backups were made. Cant one just use replacer to replace the modified files with the backups??

@JoJoey

I followed your link to download the Vista Customization Pack.

That link directed me to your "Windows XP 2 Windows Vista Guide".

On that page it says "Vista Customization Pack - Coming Soon 2005".

There's no possibillity to download the Vista Customization Pack.

So is this thing available for download now or not?

I've managed to download and install the Vista Customization Pack now.

First I want to congratulate you for your great work.

It runs absolutely perfect on my machine with no errors or something.

Additionaly I've installed your Sidebar and now my desktop is nearly perfect.

I have TweakUI and using Repair Icons just makes all the icons Vista icons on my system. Didn't fix a thing. Well if I wanted them all Vista icons I guess it did, but I don't.

And the answer to "why are some getting errors and others aren't?" Well for one thing, notice that most are getting errors and a very small handful actually said it worked fine. Don't give me that "worked fine for over 200 people". That's soo obviously a load of crap. That's most likely how many people downloaded it and had to format their computers to get rid of it

Like I said before, this thing was nowhere near ready to be released and still isn't anywhere near it. You're lucky you mentioned that any damage created by it wasn't your fault. If you guys hadn't you'd be soo screwed right now. The fact you mentioned it in all caps seems a little odd honestly. If you guys hadn't you'd be soo screwed right now.

I think they knew it was messed up and released it anyway not caring the damage it did to systems and that's just plain wrong. How many have had to format their computers? And if they didn't they are now stuck with these Vista icons that look like crap

Anyone that uses a FREE, third patry application such as a theme or style, or this for matter of fact, has no legal rights to go after the maker of the program--IF U USE IT KNOWINGLY. Leave the guys along, their doing a good job, and if you having troubles with patching or using this then dont use it. Thank you for making this theme, its rather nice. Thank you. Most of you folks are like little kids, "Mommy he broked'ed my computer!", and she says "Lets sue em!" Grow up, learn how to use your computer, and when all else fails--reformat.

ohh do shut up.... this patch has worked perfectly for myself and over 200 other users!!!

does anyone remember that mod for windows 95 that gave you the gradient on the tops of the windows like from windows 98? yeah, i installed that once and totally screwed up my computer to the point where i couldnt use it anymore. did i sue the author? no. that would be stupid. did i complain? no... it was my own fault for installing something that modded a bunch of system files. when MS sends you windows it works right out of the box. what you do to it is your own choice and the effects can be positive or negative and are not supported by MS. if you use tools written by someone else then thats not their fault that you used the tools. who knows if you even did it right? basically, if you're not happy, stop complaining. if you want to help him test this then please post something constructive.

to a certain extent ;)

Here is what I did to get it to work:

1. Installed Vista Customization Pack 1

2. Reboot

3. Used TweakUI to repaired Icons (clicked repair now twice)

4. Installed Vista Customization Pack 1.1

5. Reboot

6. Used TweakUI to repaired Icons (clicked repair now twice)

7. Done and it works fine. :)

This pack just replaces system files, it does not patch the file. This means your updated original dll which has been patched and updated by windows updates will be replaced by some file which could be from another xp version with different hotfixes installed and even worse another language. This can cause more harm than good because that file is not from your system. Also with poor uninstalling which probably replaces the files with other ones which are default icons this is just as bad. The best solution is to patch your original files with vista icons and then when you uninstall it as such just repatch them with default icons.

    • Browser vendors including Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Vivaldi have jointly written an open letter to Microsoft saying enough is enough regarding Edge being pushed on Windows users without consent. Microsoft makes it difficult to change the default browser, promotes Edge throughout Windows 11, and has made the uninstall process unnecessarily complicated compared to other apps. Does anyone have more details on what exactly the open letter demands and whether any regulatory action is being considered? Also curious whether this could lead to antitrust investigations similar to what happened with Internet Explorer back in the day. Would love to hear from anyone following this closely.
    • Amen, they are a shady company... they modify my site to remove inline ads and then cry about subscribing to their services, a few things they "bravely" did in recent years: In 2020, Brave was caught automatically appending its own affiliate referral codes to URLs when users typed the web addresses of crypto exchanges (like Binance and Coinbase) into the address bar. Following significant backlash, the CEO apologized and the feature was disabled. In 2023, the company faced criticism after users noticed a paid VPN service was installed on their computers without their explicit consent. TOR Privacy Leak: In 2021, Brave's private Tor tabs were found to be leaking DNS queries to internet service providers, a flaw that was subsequently patched. Passive Cryptocurrency Donations: In early versions of the browser, Brave automatically collected user contributions and held them in a pool to be distributed to creators. If a creator had not signed up to claim their funds within a certain time frame, the process sparked criticism about where the money went.
    • I think they still believe it but are realizing that those statements created massive backlash and impacted adoption. I personally think AI, if used regularly will give you back about 30% of your time if you are an “information” worker.
