Presenting the new Neowin Logo

Recommended Posts

Well everyone is putting in their 2 cents I thought I would too. :D

I usually like glassy looking graphics more, but I'm very taken by the new look. I can't wait to see the new site. Very good work, and I'm sure it will be appreciated more when the whole new site is seen to all. Keep up the good work and thanks for all that you do

NO, they aren't better.

That's a bit definitive isn't it? So they don't have a right to an opinion? Then again, it's what I've come to expect...

As for everyone else, yes, Timans and n30w1n's logos look good individually, and I'd go as far as saying (just from what everyone's seen in this thread), they look "better" (especially n30w1n's, never seen aqua/gloss that good :| ). But just have a little faith and wait until you see it all in action :) some of you might be pleasantly surprised, I was.

At first glance, it does appear to be a simple combination of filters, but if you take a harder look at it, you will realize there's more going on.  I would challenge anyone to recreate the effects using solely filters.  There are subtle shading effects that add dimension and smoothness that were clearly not created with a filter.

My vote: nice job!  It will no doubt look great in the finished design.

586365937

Put money on that.

I can do that using nearly all filters.

Hey that was a bad idea!

You see, at neowin we have always just implemented design changes as we see fit, without pre-warning anyone. It always worked well that way (neowin 3.9 upgrade) no-one knew about that till we put it online, that had a logo update too

I bet if we had posted the logo before everyone saw the finshed border updates there would of been complaints too.

The logo is final, it works in what we have and there is no point in people trying to get other variations done because we aren't considering other designs.

Its a shame that we tried to do something we haven't done before and that people are shoving completely different concepts down our throats and then being disappointed when we say we've finalized on the concept and mock up.

Thanks for the response, it's easier to relate to than some of the responses we've had. Well, I look forward to the new design. I know a lot of work has gone into this and I certainly didn't mean to sound ungrateful.

I'm sorry... does this make it better? :rose: :)

No Neobond,

It's not that you shouldnt do it, its that you should just be able to be open to constructive critisism.

How many logos have you really gone through in the past that were that much different?

Honestly, it's a good idea to get a poll, and see what users think.

You want the subscribers (I would hope) to be proud of their board, so why not show them BETA logos.

What Might even be better, is to have an open competition / colaboration to help design a noew logo.. just a thought,

in any case ... you dont always have to take "this logo sucks" as a bad thing. Sure, you can implement without critique, but even after implementation ... it's still going to stink if it stinks.

You simply don't understand. It's not about constructive criticism. It's about how the current image works with the design.

The logo is a piece of a large puzzle. If you only see one piece, you cannot tell how the rest of the layout is going to be. There could be dramatic changes between that one piece you hold/see and the completed masterpiece.

Ok, to some extent I agree with that, ... and your right. To truely judge something that is complete is the best way to do it..

However, a logo IS a logo, and nomatter how it integrates with a board, ... if X-Box's logo looked like this:

10hx.jpg

But wasnt on the box itself ... would you still say .. "Hey, you have to SEE this thing on the finnished product" ...

Then why post the damn thing in the first place if you know that it doesn't justify the whole design. If you were gonna tease the members with the new design then at least post a crop of the whole design with say the logo in it. That way people will see it intergrated in some or another way and you don't have to cover up the **** later with puzzle and etc comments.

Atta boy.

People, you don't come into someone elses sandbox to play and then complain that the box isn't filled with pebbles instead.

It's a long, slow lesson. As much as some would like to think this is a community, it's actually more like you are guests visiting someone elses house. If you want to be invited back, you don't track mud in on the carpet and you don't go about criticizing the design elements of the home they worked so hard to build.

In the end, this is their place, run the way they want it and in accordance with their vision and principles. People who take advantage of the invitation to visit yet spend most of their time criticizing every aspect of the place do little but draw negative attention to themselves. Eventually they'll just stare at you with scorn and contempt wondering why they ever bothered to invite you in the first place and start focusing on ways to discourage you from coming back.

Ultimately, if you are not happy with the places you visit, you might want to branch out and create a destination of your own that is goverened by your vision and your rules. Just like employees that bristle under the yoke of a large company and decide to move on and start their own company so they can run it the way they see fit.

Ironically, over time, as they start to get employees of their own, they might end up resenting the fact that those workers are criticizing their efforts too.

It's a vicious circle, life.

Nobody likes to have their hard work criticized.  Many people can take it very personally and get defensive, resentful and hold a grudge.

...

It's like when a chick goes "Does this dress make me look fat"?

It's just not a place you want to go, you know what I'm saying?

586369621

I gather that some of the people around here would say:

"Oh sorry, I thought you were a cow."

First of all ...

Ok ...

People, you don't come into someone elses sandbox to play and then complain that the box isn't filled with pebbles instead.

This is my sandbox too, its a COMMUNITY fourum, and as much as you dont think so ... thats what NeoWin touts. Trust me, there are plenty of pebbles, and not ALL of them are in MY shorts.

It's a long, slow lesson.  As much as some would like to think this is a community, it's actually more like you are guests visiting someone elses house.  If you want to be invited back, you don't track mud in on the carpet and you don't go about criticizing the design elements of the home they worked so hard to build.

K, if someone starts a thread, and says, guys ... look at what the new logo in the HOUSE you live in is going to look like. Whadya think? ... We are going to give our honest oppinion. YOU may say .. OOOOoooo wow guys, great job, nobody coulddo better! And you may actually think that. But some of us dont. This is what makes a forum a forum. Different ideas, and different oppinions.

D00d. Do you realize how many millions of blogs, boards, and places there are to be, and post your thoughts? Ive been a member for over 3 years, and once under a diff handle. I was here from the start, and Ill be saying "wow, that logo is stupid" .. if indeed I think it is. Free speech is great. Get used to it.

Ultimately, if you are not happy with the places you visit, you might want to branch out and create a destination of your own that is goverened by your vision and your rules.  Just like employees that bristle under the yoke of a large company and decide to move on and start their own company so they can run it the way they see fit.

See .. this is not a company, and even if it were, we are not employees. A sucessful board relies on its "guests" as you put it to make it big. If everyone got sick of the board. There would be no board. We ARE NeoWin.

Ironically, over time, as they start to get employees of their own,  they might end up resenting the fact that those workers are criticizing their efforts too.

...

It's a vicious circle, life.

The best part of a pickle, is the part of the end where the road is green, and it opens the door to needed sleep. ? ... ... <- What?

586370731

sorry I had to!

Behold the red neoranger!  :ninja:

586365976

OMfg.. lol. I didnt even see that! .. lol.

You know what. The logo is ugly. But so what, the board is still cool. Lol.

anyway, I was just thinkning.. WHAT does it LOOK like now... I finnaly realized it.

It looks like the HELP icon for Longhorn! Omg..

Good grief, you really don't like keeping things short do you?

bk4el.jpg

lol... ultimately we all come here by choice and I don't see that being likely to change. NEway, as to your remark about the sandbox... the community is invited in and so may offer their opinion on what is put in the sandbox, however the owners get the final say... so yes, you are completely right. Was anyone really disputing that?

Not given my 2 Cents yet, so might aswell.

I think the current logo is nice, I think the new logo is nice, not like we spend more then 5 seconds looking at the logo anyway ;) So I don't know why so many of you are annoyed some even disgusted over the change.

Time to add that Milk to my Special K.

i don't like the logo. it reminds me of the WB themes Winswy makes...

bevels make it look cheap. anyone can add a bevel to something and call it new. sometimes it fits, but this just doesn't look right. i prefer the one you showed for the lite theme much more than the others.

i hope the whole new site design isn't filled with extreme bevels and gradients like the logo is.

    • AMD 26.6.2 driver brings FSR 4.1 support to RDNA 3 RX 7000 series graphics cards by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe A new driver is rolling out to Radeon graphics hardware owners, and alongside support for new games, AMD has just made its FSR 4.1 upscaling tech available to an entire generation of its products. Last month, AMD announced it is answering community requests to bring FSR 4.1 to past generations of its Radeon graphics cards. This would be starting with RDNA 3 RX 7000 products. Right on schedule, this is what's rolling out now with the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 driver containing official support for over 300 games. Following this, AMD is planning to bring out RDNA 2 (RX 6000 series) support for FSR 4.1 sometime in early 2027. As for the games, this Adrenalin 26.6.2 driver is a recommended install for anyone jumping into Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced remake or id Software's DOOM: The Dark Ages' Revelations expansion. The two fixed issues in this release are these: Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing RoadCraft on Radeon™ RX 7000 series products. Purple screen may be displayed when using an HP Reverb G2 headset with SteamVR on Radeon™ RX 6000 series graphics products. The known issues AMD is still working on are the following: Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing Battlefield 6 on AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. AMD is actively working on a resolution with the developer to be released as soon as possible. Texture flickering or corruption may appear while playing Battlefield 6 with AMD Record and Stream on some AMD graphics products. AMD FSR Upscaling and AMD FSR Frame Generation may show as inactive in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition while playing Battlefield 6 when enabled on Radeon™ RX 9000 series graphics products. Failure to install may be observed while installing AI Bundle components in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub. Model flickering or rendering failure may be observed in Maxon Cinema 4D and Blender on Radeon RX 7000 series and above graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1. Intermittent application crash may be observed on some models while running Blender on Radeon RX 7000 and above graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1. The newly released AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 driver is now available for download from the AMD Software app. Find the official changelog here.

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
