Presenting the new Neowin Logo

Recommended Posts

Since this is a forum for all users, everyone should get a say in how it's designed. Just shutting down people's ideas, and arrogantly choosing your own design and keeping the whole thing hidden, just stinks of selfishness.

I personally think eveyone should get a say in revising the way the new neowin will look, with the final design being approved of by the site owners.

After all there are a lot of talented people on this board, who I'm sure would love to help out.

Just my 2 cents.

Remember this was a sneak peak of the logo for Neowin 4.

I would assume that, based on the reaction that I see, that there will not be a sneak peak of Neowin 5 in the future.

Neowin 3 was launched without a sneak peak. Members were able to see the final product at once. Perhaps that gave them better perspective. Or perhaps they complained relentlessly then too.

You will note that you can still use the Neowin 2 "Classic" skin. I would image that we will keep a Neowin 3 skin or two available for those that prefer the current look and feel.

I, myself, am looking forward to using a Neowin 4 skin.

Actually I think most of us would prefer NOT to see a sneak peak, about 2 months ahead (and yes, I do know web design and Neowin 4 is taking ridiculously long, but I understand no one is being paid so whatever). If you want to post something and get feedback, that's one thing, if not, we really don't care as nothing said makes any difference.

Anyway, hadn't thought to before, but I decided to rate this topic, nice big 1 from me.

I find it amuzing that alot of people are bashing it and saying that it is justified because it is just their opinion. I dont see anywhere in the original post where flish said "hey do you like it?". He simply said this is it and here are the colors. If there should be any comments they should be positive or none at all. My comment is simple, about time we get to see something from the new design.

I think we should all stop arguing, after v4 goes live, then you can argue, but at the moment, we have no idea how this will look in the final skin, and from what i have heard, it's amazing.

So, lets all calm down, take a minute to think about it, it's not that bad.

and to tide you all over, i present...

Its not bad graphically, but honestly its a step backward, it doesn't look as clean and professional as the current logo, someone overdid with the bevel and emboss..

edit: it still retains the annoyance of drawing your attention, the logo shouldn't look like someone stuck a sticker on top of a website lol, it should work with the site, the new logo in the represented form would look good on a sticker or button, but its too consealed and doens't look like it wants to be a part of a website but more so a stand alone graphic. MSN is the perfect example of how a logo should fit into a site with a lot of content, it doesn't draw your attention but it doesn't just blend in, I think the logo needs to be revised so it doesn't use a border around the whole thing to make it flow better. The current one looks like an avatar :/

A quick mock up using the same effects applied in that new logo by FlishFun. Surely not the best quality though it was not intended to be.. but my point is that it takes more than just applying a couple of effects and calling it a day.

I really like this one. It gives it the crystal look, and makes it asthetically more pleasing. Im not too fond of the official one because it gives a sense of rushed. In black, it actually looks great, but all the others look a bit rushed off.

Sorry if anyone disagrees with me, its just my opinion.

Great job flish. I appreciate your hard work and dedication to this site by providing your free time.

Thank you for posting the sneak peek to the members to give them something to look forward to knowing that version 4 is indeed coming. I think some forget that.

I am also sorry for the appalling attitudes that some have displayed in this topic.

I'm with AgEnTsMiTh, show some appreciation here people.

Flish works his butt off on Neowin, and most likely on Version 4, pretty much without him we would still have those sucky badges, old Neowin logo etc.. Pay him some respect.

With all due respect fair play to everyone creating new idea's but stop it now. It's pretty disheartening, and I am surprised some of you have the balls to say such bad thing's as some of you have said. As the Administrators, Mods (including Flishfun (many times) ) the logo design is final, and it ain't changing.

I for one would buy Flishfun a beer right now, and I think some other people should too.

Show some appreciation.

We all commend his efforts, as well as all the staff here at Neowin. But, in the posting of this topic, surely the staff should have seen this coming, constructive criticism is always great to get, if you guys hear what we are saying, we may be able to come out with an even more incredible Neowin 4 than you guys say it is right now.

Flish seems like he has MUCH more potential, you guys should tell him a very general feel they want, and allow him to work his creativity on everything.

Normal topic expectancies exist in this thread, it should not have been posted if no one wanted feedback. :(

Sorry, but that is my view on things.

I think that the too many people there think that this is their site or something. Neobond's in charge. This is not a democracy.

I won't see the new logo much anyway since the lite theme loads so much quicker (even on a high speed connection.) I just hope that the lite theme stays light. =)

This topic reminds me of the ones in Gaming forums where people complain about the graphics of games like Gears of Wars, Saints Row etc. Really are they that blind ? I wondered how those developers feel when they get such reactions after working so hard on it for hours, months together.

The new logo is a refinement of what we have now, you cant simply say that its a step backwards; thats a blatant lie. And judging from what the staff has been saying it fits very nicely with the new layout, so whats the big deal ?

Flish & the rest of Neowin staff should just shrug these negative comments off. Whenever Neowin4 is revealed, most of these pessimists will eat their own words and some might realise how childish they were when the logo was revealed.

indeed, I like the new logos, and while the user-contributed logos may also looks as good (possibly better depending on your opinions) I reckon that the logo presented by flish would fit into the site design best.

Keep up the good work flish ;)

How can you say they aren't better?  Better is an opinion.  I believe they look more pleasing to the eye, which is the point of logos, hence my belief that they are better.

What I'm interpreting from your statement is that the "worse" logo by flish goes with the site really well, which to me means that if a "bad" logo goes with a site well then maybe the overall design is "bad" as well.

I am in no way hating on or insulting anyone here.  I am sure I will offend some, as peoples personal work and taste is involved, but its not my intention.  Im just throwing in my 2 cents, which seems to be in line with at least a few other members.

edit: by "bad" and "worse" all I mean is in my opinion, comparing them to neow1ns.

586369602

That's a bit definitive isn't it? So they don't have a right to an opinion? Then again, it's what I've come to expect...

I would suggest you guys read the whole post, not just the first sentence. Reading is great, but comprehending what you read is just as important.

As for everyone else, yes, Timans and n30w1n's logos look good individually,... But just have a little faith and wait until you see it all in action :) some of you might be pleasantly surprised, I was.

586370069

Not surprisingly, this is the same thing I said but in different words. Again, comprehension is important here guys. The other logo's do not look better with the whole look of the page. They may be nice individually, but they certainly do not go with everything else.

Please don't take this to harshly, but if you didn't want to see it, why would you click on this topic. It's pretty easy to avoid things you don't want to see, when they are titled correct. Which this one was pretty obvious.

I would assume that, based on the reaction that I see, that there will not be a sneak peak of Neowin 5 in the future.

586371647

Not to sound like a jerk, but who cares? If people don't like Neowin 5, they're going to gripe about it anyway. Whether it's before it happens or after, it doesn't matter.

As far as 'the whole look of the page' or whatever, this thread isn't about that. This thread is about the logo. That is the only thing we can discuss. Stop saying 'you guys don't know what the full thing will look like when it's done'. It doesn't matter. Maybe Neowin 4 will be the hottest site ever made. That doesn't change anyone's opinion of the logo itself, which is what this thread is about.

I like n30w1n's logo more. That does not mean that i think it should be used for your new site design, because i imagine it won't fit in right. It only means that i like it more versus the logo that was in the first post.

    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
    • Microsoft: Windows 11 could finally solve a major issue across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has been trying to improve it, Windows 11 is definitely not flawless, as even today some issues are taking a year to publicly acknowledge. However, one area of trouble that may finally see much better results soon is graphics driver crashes. Work on graphics driver timeouts, also called Timeout and Detection Recovery (TDR), is not new as the latest WDDM 3.2 also has specific improvements regarding it. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) version 3.2 is supported on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. However, with the upcoming version 26H2, TDR crash diagnosis could go to the next level as Microsoft is introducing a new DirectX 12 API feature called "DirectX Dump Files". Similar to how system memory dump files work when a system crashes or freezes or encounters any such major issue, DirectX Dump Files (DDF) will essentially record a snapshot of the GPU execution right at the moment a graphics-related crash or hang or freeze occurs, so that developers can better understand and diagnoze these TDR and timeout detection errors. The dump will be available as a .dxdmp file for analysis and it will be a comprehensive dump file generated with detailed insights about the hardware, drivers, Windows, as well as the affected application. This should be another welcome change in this department. Earlier at GDC 2026, when the technology was first debuted, Microsoft had shared more details regarding it. The company had explained how DDF is designed to gather data from every layer of the graphics stack into a single file, eliminating the need for developers to manually correlate logs from multiple tools. As mentioned above, the dump can contain a lot of useful details like GPU hardware state information such as register values, shader program counters, page fault virtual addresses, shader memory data, and command buffers. Alongside that, it also captures DirectX runtime and kernel information, including D3D objects, pipeline state objects, device error data, adapter details, and CPU call stacks. Microsoft says the feature has been built around two primary use cases: retail device removals and local device removals. The former allows developers to collect crash information from end users' systems in the field, while the latter helps QA teams and developers investigate issues on test machines. Developers will also be able to include up to 2 MB of custom application data through new D3D12 APIs, providing additional context for troubleshooting. In addition, Microsoft is introducing three dump collection modes ranging from zero-overhead capture, which has no runtime performance impact on supported hardware, to higher-detail modes that collect more vendor-specific debugging data. On compatible Tier 2 hardware, zero-overhead dumps will be enabled by default, meaning developers may begin receiving useful crash diagnostics without making any code changes. The table below explains the three tiers: Tier Description NO_OVERHEAD Enables crash capture with no runtime cost and is suitable for broad deployment MEDIUM_OVERHEAD Provides a balance, capturing additional diagnostic data with moderate impact HIGH_OVERHEAD Collects the most detailed GPU and driver state available, enabling deeper investigation at the cost of higher runtime overhead In terms of availability, the company expects broader release to be around the fall of 2026, which should be right around the time when Windows 11 version 26H2 lands. Right now, DirectX Dump Files are available as a preview and currently, only AMD has the compatible AgilitySDK Developer Preview driver version 26.10.07.02. You can find the official announcement post here on Microsoft's website.
