Neowin's Third Annual NFL Pick'em 2005!

I don't think so. A person who misses a week is already penalized by missing out on all the wins.

Why are we using total points as the tiebreaker at all if it doesn't apply if you miss a week?

Plus, I have never heard anyone mention this rule.

They may be 'penalized' by missing out on the wins, when in reality they should be penalized with the losses as well.

This rule has been in effect since year one. As you can see, even if you pick every week it's a close race at the top. If we had no tiebreakers, We'd easily end the year in a tie. That is why it is so important to not miss a week.

You could be picking great, miss a week, and boom, in terms of a tiebreaker, you have an advantage. "But I lose those wins" Well, you've shown yourself that that's not really an issue, as you have come back from being three weeks down. You say that's unfair, but it's how we've always done it.

Keep in mind...if someone accidently forgets to pick a winner of a certain game, we count it as a loss. We've never penalized for losses if people miss a week. Maybe we should do that next year to even out everything. If they don't pick. 12 losses. If you don't pick the points, total points are added to your score.

Heck, if my first three weeks didn't count my overall percentage would be a lot higher. The first three weeks were brutal.

 Who cares about percentage?

Judging by your sig, I'd say you care about percentages.

But the rankings discriminate against people who miss weeks anyway.

Simple solution to this. Don't miss weeks.

Just wow. "You've shown yourself that that's not really an issue."

Maybe because I've been outpicking everyone since I've joined. Obviously it's an issue. I'm in 8th place instead of 1st. Wouldn't you consider that penalty enough?

You've been 'outpicking' everyone since week 3. Not week one. I'm not penalizing people who've picked since day one. You miss weeks, you fall behind. I can'd do a thing about that.

Oh and by the way...throw illicit's first two weeks out (12-20), so he picked the same amount of weeks as you? He's still beating you 172-63 against 171-64.

Anyway, I'm not the only one that has missed a week, but I seem to be getting penalized here for doing too well.

And everyone else who's missed a week is in the same boat. What makes you different here?

You can do something.

Praytell me what I can do about people who forget their picks? Give them an average? Pretend they didn't exist and give them a random score?

Enlighten us, as I cannot possibly read your mind.

Still beating me? He isn't beating me right now. And I went 18-14 the first two weeks, so no, he wouldn't be beating me assuming everything else is the same.

Well, those picks weren't made here. I suppose the saying 'If you aunt had testicles, she'd be your uncle' fits in here.

I apologize for not making that clearer, but I honestly thought it was pretty much a logical conclusion. I'll make sure it's clearer for next year.

All I'm saying is I don't understand the additional penalty, nor do I understand why BOOG bothered with tiebreakers for everyone if they don't count for some people.

Because every week you need a tiebreaker as well. Since I have to tally them all up for the season anyways, I added them up for everyone, all weeks or not, so they themselves could see how their points picks were going for the weeks they participated.

Wow.

Seattle v. Pittsburgh 44

I still can't believe the degree of underdog Seattle is. I think the Steelers are good, but wow, Seattle is given no chance by most "experts".

I know. I Don't think it's going to be a close game, and I am pretty comfortable that it's going to be Seattle.

It was Bizarro week, as rap4life won, and i came in last place. :p

Congrats to illicit, this year's NFL Pick'em Champion, setting the bar to the new best record, beating last year's mark of 181-87 (68%) (by yours truly) with a new record of 185-83 (69%)

I know it seems like I nit pick a lot, but on page 82, yisman had me at 172 wins before the Superbowl so I should have 173 afterwards. Here's the link:

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...=360982&st=1215

it's half way down.

Thanks for all your work, this was definitely fun, can't wait to play next season!

Doh..you're right. Fixing now.

    • Google are hyprocrites for signing this. They have been pulling the same dirty tactics as Microsoft, only they do it on Android and ChromeOS.
    • In some countries the law has forced Microsoft to display a menu on a fresh install of Windows which asks which web browser you want and it will install that browser. This doesn't add any bloat to Windows. It simply an additional step when setting up a new PC.
    • Chrome is also a first party browser on Android and ChromeOS. And on those systems, Google is pulling the same dirty tactics as Microsoft does on Windows.
    • Unofficial script lets you install unreleased Windows 11 features without Microsoft Account by Sayan Sen Microsoft has been steadily evolving the Windows Insider Program over the years, introducing new channels and testing paths that allow enthusiasts to experience upcoming and yet-to-be-released Windows features (some interesting hidden ones too) before they reach the public. However, one long-standing requirement has remained largely unchanged as users are generally expected to enroll in the Program and with a Microsoft account. That's where a third-party tool called "OfflineInsiderEnroll" can help. OfflineInsiderEnroll is said to be a lightweight script that enables access to Windows Insider Program builds on systems that are not signed in with a Microsoft account. Essentially the tool configures the necessary Insider settings locally and hence allows users to select and switch between available preview channels while continuing to receive builds through the normal Windows Update channel. If you are wondering how it manages to do so, it is made possible by a Registry value known as TestFlags. When configured to"0x20", Windows stops communicating with Microsoft's online Insider enrollment services thus preventing locally configured Insider settings from being overwritten. This allows the script to apply its own channel configuration directly through the Registry as Windows Update does not verify whether a device has been officially enrolled in the Insider Program or not. Previously the utility has had already supported the traditional Insider branches including Dev, Beta, and Release Preview. However following Microsoft’s recent restructuring of its preview channels, the script has now been updated. The latest OfflineInsiderEnroll version, 2.6.6, adds support for the newly introduced Insider channel lineup. As such, users can now choose from several Experimental channels in addition to Beta and Release Preview options. The update also retains tools for refreshing the Insider cache, resetting Insider settings, and completely stopping Insider enrollment when needed. Keep in mind though that will need elevated privileges when running the script (run as Admin). You can get the latest version of OfflineInsiderEnroll from this page on its official GitHub repo.
    • The "Classic" Outlook has done that for a few years as well. The option to even change that is really hidden away too... It really shouldn't be hard to respect user defaults. Sadly we are the product now, not Outlook. To change in the Classic Outlook: File > Options > Advanced > change "Open hyperlinks from Outlook in"
