I've used every build of MSN Messenger 7.5 on 2 computers and had absolutely no problems with them.

Even my g/f usually updates when I tell her about a new build, and she had no probs with any, and any of the friends that have gotten the 7.5 builds from me haven't had any probs either.

Seems weird that so many people here seem to be having problems, lol.

I'm having a problem with MSN Messenger aswell.. Although not exactly like yours.

Whenever I boot into windows and try to login, it fails. I must browse on the internet(like going in to neowin) before I can login..

Didn't have that problem before :/

I had the same problem and I found out that Messenger Plus was causing the problem. I noticed that my e-mail adress that I entered in the (new) logon screen of 7.5 was replaced by my name when I hit the Enter-button. Then I got the same error as described here. My wife and I both use Messenger on the same computer, with both our own preferences in Msgplus. We both have the "Custom Names" active in the Contact List. What happened is that Msgplus recognizes my e-mail address, which is in my wife's contact list. It then replaces the e-mail address with the custom name my wife gave me and Messenger tries to log on. Since the name/password combination doesn't exist, the Messenger service shows the above error. Apparently Msgplus is not fully compatible with MSN 7.5 yet. Temporary solution is to deactivate custom names in Msgplus, until Patchou straightens this out. Maybe this works for you too.

I use the latest and final versions of both programs (7.5.0299 & 3.54.132)

ive been having the same problem - it wont connect on either of my computers (they are directly networked and share the ADSL connection).

Whenever 7.5 troubleshoots and repairs the connection -on either machine - it drops the network - leaving my 2nd computer with no internet and no printer etc...

This is kinda strange 'cos all of the beta versions connected fine on both machines ( XP home sp2 and XP pro sp2) - my network is connected via bluetooth.p

I wasnt told about a beta for 0299 either - unless this is MS's way of releasing a public beta???

***edit***

no, i dont have messenger plus installed on either machine, so im guessing this isnt entirely the problem.

    • Well I've done a grand total of nothing, and it now clocks between 2010mhz and 1995mhz (stock is 1710mhz) and hovers around 80c, warmer than it used to, but tolerable clocks seem to have returned. Thanks for all the advice on this thread. Will review the evidence and make a choice.

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
