To me it was as goog as outpost or sygate.

Still now with sygate and kerio out of the way, there isn't much choice for the security conscious user anymore.

Sygate?? I use Sygate since when are they gone ? :ninja:

I am a Sygate user who was looking to eventually switch to Kerio once the current/last Sygate firewall is comprimised/exploited.

I may have to switch exclusively to Linux :/ I prefer Linux but, unfortuntely, Windows XP Pro is a better fit for my Centrino notebook. As we all know, running Windows without a third-party firewall is less than secure.

Had zone alarm but was buggy back then.

Tryed norton firewall, Was just to buggy for me.

Tryed i think sygate. Was a good one but didn't suit me well at the time.

Now i've stuck with Tiny Personal Firewall for a few years now. Quite a good i love this firewall, It has quite a cool few features.

But i'm not to sure of the latest gui for the admin control panel But i don't need to go in to that much.

If i'm not much mistaken this use to be similar to Kerio a few versions back, But i also feel at some point this will go as it is owned by CA Who own Ez products

But still a good firewall give it a try

I paid for and licensed a copy of tiny firewall, (N) its just such a pain to configure and the constant questions. Sheeesh, just not user friendly.

The questions i get are asking for internet connections, I found the windows security module was anoying so i disabled it.

Should give it another go, All i need to configure for it is just what programs have access and thats only when the program needs it as the pop up comes up.

So what if Symantec buys out Sygate and load up the firewall with their poorly coded BS. SPF hasn't been updated for some time, yet it still works well. It's not like all copies of SPF will deactivate once its Symantec-branded successor comes out.

About KPF: don't like that firewall that much. It also caused headaches with UT2k4 (which yes, I understand there's a workaround for it).

Kerio PF 2.1.5 is a free firewall and still is a great choice.

Kerio PF 4.1 thru 4.2 is a great firewall. IMO

MacAfee PF does good too.

I don't care for ZA but Sygate does offer a decent alternative. Windows XP firewall lacks important funtions a decent firewall should have.

While you are right (no reason to stop using SPF), you shouldn't overlook the fact that SygatePF has security holes that already have published exploits. The longer users continue to use Sygate, the greater the chance that they will be comprimised.

I'm hoping the days where the last SygatePF is classed as a security risk are still some time away... but I've come to terms knowing that I won't be using SygatePF in 18 months, 24 months.

I have neverl liked software firewalls anyway. I prefer routers with a hardware firewall.

You do realize hardware firewalls do not block outgoing transmissions, only incoming. That means spyware, viruses and applications can connect to the internet and send information out without your knowledge.

Everyone should have both a good software and hardware firewall.

What the hell? This is just wrong. >_< Even though I'm having a bit of a CPU usage problem with 4.2.0, Kerio has been great overall, especially compared to other firewalls I've used.

Sygate - just didn't like the feel

Outpost - WAYYYYYY too many prompts, even when a minor DLL was changed

Norton - ....self explanatory

    • Server Summit had a heap of announcements, ADCS changes are baller.
    • Nice, hope they *finally* fixed the issue with the NTFS driver where the system would completely brick during large file copies using the built in driver. It's been broken for years requiring me to use the older, slower, NTFS-3G FUSE driver.
    • Windows 11 KB5094126 BSODing, freezing, forcing BitLocker lockout, breaks OneDrive, and more by Sayan Sen Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 last week as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. While Microsoft has so far not acknowledged any major problems with the release, some users online are running into problems. These range from OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. The most common one seems to be happening with HP systems wherein affected users say they hit 0xc0430001 BSOD (blue screen of death) error code after the KB5094126 update. We wonder if this could be related to the recent bug we covered on HP devices wherein the ongoing Secure Boot certificate updates are leading to similar issues. While we are not certain, users affected by this issue likely need to ensure that the boot.stl file is included on the installation media (such as a USB installer or ISO), if the above-mentioned dynamic updates are deployed. If this file is missing, computers may fail to boot from the installation media and could display the error 0xc0430001. This STL file is used by Secure Boot to verify that the boot files are trusted, so it must match the same Windows version and system architecture. To ensure the file is included, Microsoft recommends using the Update WinPE script, which automatically updates the image and handles the required files. Alternatively, you can manually copy the boot.stl file from the Windows\Boot\EFI folder on a Windows device and place it in the matching folder on your installation media before deploying the updated image. Aside from blue screening some users also note their systems have been freezing following the update. This could be happening to Lenovo PCs specifically. In the case of the OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, a user figured out that there could be a conflict with UAC. He explained: "Okay, so I did some digging, and in our environment KB5094126 breaks OneDrive and Dropbox in Explorer. I went through all our GPOs and found out that the combination of disabling UAC and having my user being a local admin breaks OneDrive in Explorer. ... If I enable UAC again, then it works, even with KB5094126 still installed." Hopefully, Microsoft will look into these issues. • It is when it's a desktop in my house though for a PC that's lightly used and not really important when it is. If it was a laptop, it would be a different story. The real solution is varied and begins starting at post #22 in that thread.
