Nintendo Revolution Controller Revealed

Recommended Posts

I've never owned a game console in my life because I get bored with games too quickly, but the this controller actually makes me want to try the Revolution right now.

I don't really need action or other complicated game either; just give me 20 editions of Super Mario and I'll be damn happy!

you have to be kidding me.  ok no other system had an analog stick until nintendo did it first. call it a "re-imagining" of the basic arcade joystick but i don't think any other mainstream consoles came up with the idea.

wavebird, what was that a "re-imagining" of? now its standard of the next generation of consoles.

niche idea i can remember people saying the same of the analog stick and the same doubters doubting the wavebird too.  come on give them credit for coming up with the ideas and stop acting as they just rehash.  if they rehash then sony and MS are rehashers of the rehash.

I'm confused. Why did you quote my entire post if you only addressed my first paragraph? I suppose I should appreciate it if you couldn't think of anything to say. I'd hate to see you pull an argument out of your ass just for the sake of supporting your team, like so many people do.

Just a quick post about my opinion. I reckon that the move from the "standard" controllers rather surprising, but it would be something I'd have expected Nintendo to do if anyone. I'm a bit skeptical about how the controller will handle some games, and in rooms where space is limited, it might cause problems if you're trying to swing the controller around.

That said, the prospects of what you can do with the controller is really quite phoenominal. It really puts you into the gaming experience if you're in an FPS and you turn around as you move your hand. That's all I can say until I actually get my hands onto one to test drive it sometime next year. :)

I don't post much but had to say something... you ain't right.

Seeing that makes me feel SOOOOO much better about the revolution. I know it's just a mock-up, but it's greatly reassuring to know that Nintendo isn't completely ditching all third-party support. I guess the Revolution might not bomb after all.

Although, it is interesting, does that interface remind anybody else of another certain system that had a similar interface? *cough* Dreamcast *cough*

It seems that with all of the press on the controller and articles it still isn't clear for you guys. THE CONTROLLER IS AN OPTION FOR DEVELOPERS TO USE. The GCN Controller (or whatever shell the thing will come with) will be used has the conventional controller.

So, yeah you'll still get to play your Tom Clancy Rainbow Six 32 1/2 on the Rev with the conventional controller. :)

I don't even want a conventional controller for ported games. If I wanted games that will be on the other systems I would get one of the other systems because it will almost certainly look prettier on those (after all isn't that what most of those games are about). I want the Revolution for the unique gaming experience, not because it has my favorite brand on it and can play all the same games as its competitor.

I hope they really push for every game to use this new controller. It just seems silly to me that anyone would want a standard controller, because as a standard console, this thing doesn't have anything over the PS3 or xbox2 except maybe price. The only time I'll use the standard controller will be for past console games because I certainly won't be buying Rev games that are just ported and use a standard controller. That just means the developer was too lazy to actually develop the game into something that would be fun to play.

i think the point of of the metroid prime 2 demo was to show how quickly they could make a game compatible with the revolution controller. when you make a game compatible with different control styles, it doesnt lose functionality with the old controllers, you just have more options. i'm sure developers are going to want to take advantage of this new tool because its going to encourage sales, and make EVERY crossplatform game on revolution stand out that much more.

my main concern right now is proper marketing for this device. we can all already see how the ignorant folks dont get the the full idea of the controller, and wont buy the revolution because of that.

NOA marketing has to do what theyve never done before; accurately depict their console on television and the internet. after the gamecube, i'm extremely tired of having to defend the system and educate people on the capabilities of a nintendo console, i won't be doing it again for revolution.

everyone always misses the point of current nintendo stuff.

When the ds was first coming out, everyone raped it cuz it didnt have as good of graphics as the psp or as much media capabilities.

and now with the revolution controller. "OMG IT ISNT THE STANDARD! POS!POSPOSPOSPOSPOS!! I AHTE NINTENDO"

its innovative and creative. Nintendo is now based on fun creative games, not hard core graphics.

DS:

Nintendogs, decent graphics: oh yeah, splinter cell, no, hella fun game thats creative and different. VERY popular

Yoshi's touch and go, lame graphics: omg! IT LOOKS LIKE GBA! no, its hella fun and creative. I can play that game for hours.

Revolution:

Controller, looks a little lame: You can swing it like a sword or a baseball bat. Who the **** cares what it looks like. When i am playing a console, I look at the screen, not the controller.

You prissy losers only care about what effing color it is and what shape.

stfu and give me a break

i dont care about the rest of your statement. TBH when i read the first paragraph i stopped reading because you were pretty much talking out of your ass already. i quoted the whole thing because i didnt feel like editing your post so sue me. I said my piece and the funny thing is that you dont even respond to what i said but criticize the context of the post.

Well if you didn't read the rest of my post...how do you know whether or not I already addressed everything you responded with? Repeating oneself is for people who only have one or two things to say.

i said my piece in pointing out that the "reimaging" was wrong. nintendo has been progressive in bring ideas into gaming, ideas have been copied and brought into the gaming "mainstream" (read sony and microsoft). THAT is the part of your statement what i was addresssing. the rest of what you said it did not further address that.

as far as your statement

There's less room for dramatic innovations in the set-top console market, because competition is much more present and fierce.

586541439[/snapback]

when sony (ps1 and ps2) ms (xbox) fought out the fierce competition they eventually came to the conclusion that nintendo's new ideas of the analog stick and wireless was not a bad thing. while i admit that the wireless was not as hard to do as analog stick it still changed gaming and this device has a chance to do the same.

Think about it.

Once gamers really give the Nintendo "Revolution" 's controller a chance, and get used to it..

going back to playing with a "normal" controller will be nothing short of boring.

Playing with just thumbs, mainly, will be very plain and uneventful.

I know I definitely want to get the Nintendo "Revolution" and I hope it succeeds, considering Nintendo's (apparently) good intentions for the video game industry. :)

I just wish I could get a Nintendo License. I'm an indie game developer, and have dreamed of making games where I could get a person holding a mouse in one hand and a joystick in another. But I've always had problems trying to innovate controls to fake other axis'... Now all these controls will just BE THERE in the new console. I so want to develop games for this thing sooo bad. You guys have no ideas of the possibilities.

There are SO MANY things we can do that I've been dreaming of all my life. And I hope other developers will realize my ideas if I can't.

I guarantee you every nextgen console (XBOX3, PS4 if they still exist after this) will have a variation of this 3d control. This just opens up a brand new world that the other consoles can't ignore. Whether or not these "macho gamers" will be able to pick a console with a fat cartoon plumber as their mascot over a console with a futuristic space marine is really their problem. Because they're just going to be behind in skill for the next generation of systems.

Very true. It's like the first time I played Star Fox 64 with the rumble pak. After that, playing any game without it felt so boring.

Think about it.

Well playing with your thumps wouldn't be so boring if you played a very fun and interactive game. If the game is very fun and interactive you wouldn't conplaining about how uneventful it is, I mean its uneventful enough that your sitting in one spot looking at a T.V.

    • I wonder how many are laid off for cost savings, and this being blamed on AI to make it sound less scary and bad, for a more positive "modern, with the times" spin for investors? Because Oracle is down 14% the past year. We're looking at a company struggling here. If AI would actually be working out so well for them that they can do massive layoffs, surely this would've been reflected the past year in their stock value?
    • AI is the beginning, wait until real robots replace more jobs, specifically jobs that require physical work.
    • AI is indeed eliminating jobs, and Oracle just proved it by Hamid Ganji There’s no question that AI has become the hottest trend in workplaces, and every company is trying to adopt AI-driven solutions across its operations. While some industry leaders repeatedly say AI won’t lead to massive layoffs, recent data suggest that AI is actually one of the main reasons some companies are reducing their workforce. According to Oracle’s annual regulatory filing, the company has laid off about 21,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce, amid increasing AI adoption. “The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce,” Oracle said in the filing. The software giant now has approximately 141,000 full-time employees, a notable decrease from 162,000 during the same period last year. Restructuring expenses, including severance payments, cost Oracle $1.84 billion in fiscal 2026. Additionally, around 49,000 Oracle employees were based in the U.S., while approximately 92,000 were employed internationally. Like many other companies, Oracle has fully embraced AI and concentrated much of its efforts on the technology. The company is also a key participant in the United States’ $500 billion Stargate Project, which aims to build multiple AI data centers across the country. When it comes to AI adoption and its impact on the workforce, opinions remain divided. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, whose company has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom, recently said in an interview that attributing job cuts to AI is a “lazy” narrative. “The narrative that connects AI to job loss, for many of the CEOs that are doing it – it is just too lazy. AI has just arrived, how is it possible they're already losing jobs?” Huang said. However, statistics and recent reports tell a different story. According to Layoffs.fyi, 196 tech companies have laid off about 119,800 employees so far this year. Reducing staff and replacing roles with AI agents could become one of the most significant trends in the job market in the years ahead.
