Kapsules is desktop widget engine for Microsoft Windows.

What's a widget you say? A widget is like a miniature application which rests on your desktop. Widgets can do all sorts of things. A widget could show you the current weather conditions, display news from your favorite website, or even check your email for you.

Kapsules makes use of the Microsoft Active Scripting Engine, which is a part of Windows. Using this built-in scripting engine, Kapsules can allow widgets to be written in a multitude of scripting languages, provided that a user has a language's add-on engine installed. That being said, widgets can make use of a certain languages strengths, weaknesses, and special features. Kapsules does not limit a developer to what language they can use!

It is worth noting that Kapsules was very much inspired by Konfabulator, a similar - yet very different application for the Apple Macintosh OSX platform. Kapsules ceases its similarities with Konfabulator beyond its general purpose and ideology.

Quite a few.. the big one being that konfab is limited to javascript, while kapsules supports 8 languages officially (jscript, jscript.net, vbscript, vb.net, python, perl, php, and ruby). The rest are mainly visual and how users interact with it. Resource usage reports vary from konfab > kapsules to kapsules > konfab. IMHO Kapsules has far more configuration options for the actual app than konfab. Konfab does have a larger userbase and more widgets, although the quantity vs. quality comes into play there as well.

Just keep in mind that it all comes down to a matter of preference. :)

i love how kapsules lets you use basically any language, even php, which is great for people who dont really know programming languages but play around with websites. With the devolpment documentation you can pull off alot by knowing the basics of the language your trying to use.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.
