UnaBonger
Last night the Yanks beat Baltimore and the Red Sox lost to the D Rays which moves them into first place by half a game.. With the Yanks & Sox playing each other next week in Fenway to end the season, I can see this division coming down to the wire...

UnaBonger
Anything can happen when these two teams meet with this much on the line. I'm sure we're in for at least one bench clearing...
bigbluepride35
Ya know, we did already have a general baseball thread in which this was being discussed. Do the Yanks really need their own thread? :p https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=302513
UnaBonger
Yeah, I caught that as soon as I started this  And yes, the Yanks do deserve their own thread :p I'm sure BangBang will come along shortly and clean this little mess up for me... Delerium
The Yanks have battled back feverishly I'll give them that, but I still dont want them in the playoffs. Both Sox teams choking here in the final stretch, its a little unsettling. Hopefully the BoSox pull it out, nothing would please me more than to see the Yanks on their couches in the postseason. bigbluepride35
Ugh.? Anybody, but the Yankees - the bandwagon team of the decade! 586563162 Bandwagon team? I personally know two kinds of people in my life with regard to the Yankees. Either they are life-long diehard fans (like bangbang023) or they absolutely despise the Yankees (like myself:devil:). Actually, Ido> know two people who weren't always Yankee fans but jumped ship, butonly> thsoe two (seem to be the exception not the rule in my experience). Aside from them the battle lines are clearly drawn for everyone else I know. bangbang023 Veteran Posted September 22, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2005 Ugh. Anybody, but the Yankees - the bandwagon team of the decade! 586563162 I was with the team before there was a bandwagon. I hate the NY Bankees. 586564707 That's original. How can you get upset about them using their money? The Yankees are in a hot market and have VERY loyal fans who shell out a lot of cash. Steinbrenner simply puts the money back into the team instead of pocketing almost all of it. As for the comeback, it's unbelievable. If we can get a 2 game lead by the time we meet up with Boston, I think we'll make it. As everyone has been saying for the past week, screw Cleveland, we want the East. You're a young team with a lot of talent. If the owners are willing to spend a little to hang on to your top guys, you're in top shape to become one of the best teams in the NL. bigbluepride35
We are a good team, but we have no friggin bullpen. 586565176 Plus the Braves in your division. As long as they're there it seems anyone else in the NL East has to shoot for the wild-card. I really thought this was the year they'd fall but when they're winning games with 8 guys in the lineup being rookies (a few times this year) I don't see how they'll ever not win. Only hope is they don't have that kind of depth in the farm system to fill in the pitching rotation when the guys they have finally retire. Of course, Mezzone (sp?) seems to be able to trun ANYone into a good pitcher anyway. Edited September 22, 2005 by bigbluepride35
stncttr908 Veteran Posted September 23, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 23, 2005 Here I was thinking that I could enjoy a playoffs without the Yankees, but then they had to go on this latest run while Boston falls. Cleveland is doing their job, although at this rate they'll overtake Chicago, who would themselves have given the Yanks the Wild Card.
Hawkeye
Yes! The Yankees have won again tonight, and with Boston off tonight, the Yanks are now a full game ahead of the Red Sox. I honestly didn't think (although I really hoped) the AL East wouldn't come down to the last 3 games betwen the Yanks and Red Sox, but that is now looking very likely. Wouldn't it be interesting if one of them doesn't make it to the postseason at all? Of course, it is very likely that one of the two of them wins the division, and Cleveland will just break down in the end and give up the Wild Card spot to the other AL East team. Heck, it might even be the White Sox who do it! Man, the last 10 games of the season are going to be very interesting for which teams from the AL make the playoffs. It's going to be awesome! :woot:
ITCNS13
Cleveland will not give up the Wild Card they are still a half game ahead of NY, let alone a game and a half ahead of Boston, Cleveland is the team NO ONE in the American League wants to play right now. stncttr908 Veteran Posted September 23, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 23, 2005 I'll agree with you right now, but there really isn't anyone on Cleveland with major playoff experience.

The Yankees kept trying to catch the Indians to go ahead in the Wild Card, but the Indians kept pace very nicely. In the process, with both teams being hot, the Yankees simply overtook the Red Sox for the AL East lead. Who needs the Wild Card when you can win the division?
imtoomuch
Bandwagon team? I personally know two kinds of people in my life with regard to the Yankees. I despise the Yankees as well. All you have to do is look around and talk to people and you'll see more people walking around in Yankees stuff than 5 years ago. Plus, people who have no idea how to play baseball will say they like the Yankees.
NEVER85
I really hope the Yankees lose the rest of their games. I loathe them and their belief that they can buy championships despite the fact it hasn't worked since the 2000 Subway Series.
UnaBonger
Ok, so the Yanks lost last night and Boston won :( We're now in a tie for 1st in the AL east... I think the winner of the division isnt going to be clear until the final meeting of these two teams next weekend. The suspense is killing me...
