i'm only 16 years old, but if the guys at a pizza place or something like that are nice and do a good job i'll stick a dollar or two into the jar. like, i don't worry about the percentage or anything.

however, if they're annoying or it takes a long time to get the food i wouldn't tip.

What exactly makes it my problem then?

your lack of respect for other's and their jobs...I agree, you are acting like the textbook definition of a jerk. You only care about your own well-being and don't mind screwing others over in the process. I hope your next server puts bodily fluids in your food.

i work as a busboy at fathers restuant and i get tipss regulary

i work overnight sometimes when its busy i make around 30-50 tip sometimes... thats good enough for a 15year old

WHy the hell wouldn't you??? They are paid what they are paid so they CAN make tips.

Who says I disrespect their job? Stop being an ass and see the situation for what it is. Tipping is a reward. Furthermore it's a reward for above expected service.

As for the "bodily fluids"... there seems to be something wrong with you.

Yep I tip. 15% all the time, more of the service is excellent or there is a really hot waitress. See the following thread for more ppl's opinions on tipping and such. It was started as "Do you tip pizza delivery people" but exploded further.

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...c=350972&hl=tip

I prefer not to tip. I'll pay for the food, but I hate it when the tip is included in the bill. That ****es me off. There is no law requiring anyone to pay tip in the U.S. or anywhere else in the world. I will tip for good service, and detest anyone expecting a tip for mediocore service. If I have to sit waiting a long time to order or have to wait a long time after being sitted to even get a glass of water, it seems poor to me. Then for a wait person to be rude just kills it.

But usually I tip. 10% flat rate.

that's me.

I don't and don't understand why it's needed.

Tipping is not really something that I have come accross in australia but seems big in the U.S.

Some even expect it, but why should they? Unless exceptional service is provided. :/

As already stated, even if you don't do it in AUS, they probably get paid more there, because otherwise they would be hardly making it in life...

I work Friday nights at a chinese buffet restaurant, and people generally don't tip but probably 40% or so of people do but usually it is less than 10%. From a buffet usually people don't think it's a place where you tip, but that's not really true. There are less people working of course, but the work is just as hard if not harder and the wages are not above minimum wage. Tips account for probably 20-30% of my nightly 4 hour work shift so if I get $8 an hour = $32 and then usually 5-9 on top of that. But it is split between a bunch of people so I wouldn't expect much, and that I only clean tables and don't actually write out the bills. But ya, usually tips go to good service or just regular service, if the service is bad or just not very good then you don't have to feel like you HAVE to tip in any situation.

For me it all depends on the type of place, if its a buffet resturaunt I only tip a little bit if at all, if its a sit down place I'll usually tip around 15-20%. If the waiter/waitress messes up my order I don't tip.

The only time I definetly tip is for food delivery to my home. I figure, those people are driving their own cars and spending their money on gas and they should really be tipped (and more than what it costs them in gas to get there).

Once I did the tip wrong, and the waiter ran out behind me (i actually made it to the parking lot) and told me I did it wrong, and didnt leave enough. The nerve!

Tipping it technically optional, but everyone in the US tips.

I do kinda resent it though.

well, i'm a waiter at a bar in my neighborhood, and we get paid $2.50 an hour..

we rely on tips. no idea why we get paid so little and we get tips, but waiters are under minimum wage, so you better tip!

a better job would clear that up real quick

Living where I used to (Group home) we were taught to tip

Wait staff: 15%

Taxi Drivers: 5%

Hair Dressers: 10% (I usualy do more if she's hot *L*)

Delivery People (food) 10% (more if thery are expediant)

To this day, I'll still tip most ppl ... I don't go to barber shops, I just buzz my hair in my bathroom :p ... but I do tip cabbies if I don't wait long. I figure - I live in a town of 3200 ppl ... it only takes me 20 min to walk accross town, if I am gonna go to laundry (who wants to carry 20lb of laundry 2.2km?) then I'll tip if they arrive at my house in under 10 minutes. If not, no tip.

I don't and don't understand why it's needed.

Because in the US waiters get paid $2.15 an hour and it is our custom to tip. Anyone who doesn't tip has no class and is usually a cheapskate.

No.  Well, very minimum.

586624236[/snapback]

Wow, it's a shame you live in the US, especially since waiters rely on tips. Did your parents teach you any class? I would assume no, I would also assume if you eat out w/friends (if you have any) they are embarassed and most likely call you out for being a cheapskate.

despite the low wage, a good waiter will usually end up making 8.00 to 12.00 dollars an hour with tips.

And that's exactly why I tip SPARINGLY.

So what you are saying is you hope others make up for you being a cheap skate? I hope you don't bring girls out on a date, they notice things like that. Do your friends call you out for being cheap?

No. And unless the job is bloody exceptional it won't happen either. Their low pay is definitely not a problem of mine.

Wow, just wow. Please tell me you aren't an American, we don't want you. Lol, I bet everyone laughs at you for being cheap. Always. You are the joke of your friends. If you are not American and live in a country that it is not the custom, please ignore.

Who says I disrespect their job? Stop being an ass and see the situation for what it is. Tipping is a reward. Furthermore it's a reward for above expected service.

    • This is sadly what happens when a company tries to become political and focus on agendas outside gaming, the constant push of inclusivity and whatever the current thing was and box ticking, instead of simply focusing on what was a great game to many myself included, massive let down that a once great game company has ended up this way hopefully this will be a lesson to game devs from here on in to leave politics and agendas out of gaming
    • Prices for consumer electronic stink and will continue to stink for quite some time. If you're at all hesitant, just buy now because it's not getting better. (or buy used and save even more cash)
    • Microsoft raises Xbox console prices by up to $150, discontinues 2TB version by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Back in March, Sony increased PlayStation 5 prices, and now, it's Microsoft's turn. Today, the company announced a major price increase that will affect all of its Xbox consoles, and one storage option is being discontinued entirely. There is some time before the new prices go into effect. Starting on August 1, 2026, any Xbox Series X|S model with 512GB of storage will cost $100 more than now. The price of 1TB models will go up by $150 instead. At the same time, all 2TB models are being discontinued. "The entire consumer electronics industry is struggling with the current components crisis, but the effects are particularly hard on consoles," said the company. "Unlike phones, computers, speakers, and other consumer devices, consoles are typically not sold at a profit, but instead for less than they cost to make." As the hikes hit, Microsoft is beginning to offer more options to make its consoles more accessible to potential customers, including financing, buy now, pay later schemes, and refurbished options: Buy Now, Pay Later: We’ve made it easier for players to use Buy Now, Pay Later options on eligible XBOX hardware purchases through Microsoft Stores, making it possible to break up your payment into predictable short-term, interest-free installments. Interest-Free Financing: Players purchasing eligible XBOX hardware through Amazon can take advantage of 0% APR financing for up to 12 months, giving players more flexibility with lower monthly payments and more budgeting control. Previously Played Consoles: We are working with retail partners on new programs to provide previously played consoles at lower prices. Players who are ready to upgrade or no longer use their console will be able to trade it in with participating retail partners for cash or store credit. Those consoles will then be made available at lower prices for players. Certified Refurbished Consoles: XBOX Certified Refurbished Consoles are available at Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP. Microsoft said that the rising cost of storage and memory prices is behind this decision, with costs going up by over 2.5 times since the last time it raised prices of its consoles. The company says these parts are expected to double in price by the fall of 2027.
