Google formally declares war on Microsoft

Recommended Posts

Mmm I stoped using Microsoft office sometime last year. II reinstalled XP and I had to get a report done and I could not find my Disk 2CD so I started using OpenOffice been using it since...It has a few things I don't like but all in all it is good

This whole google war sounds just silly, more fuel for the sad people who will follow google to the end of the earth

My thoughts exactly. Although I don't dislike google and I think competition is good...

Anyway, the title of this thread is probably Inquirer's fault, not google!

Google is just a load of rebranded PR BS anymore...

oh wow they took an existing app that was alreay FREE and put their logo all over it *rolls eyes* issues a press release and the press flocks all over it because of the name Google... when in reality there is nothing new at all besides it being rebranded

when google bought keyhole i liked that because they offer free service now on the basic version of it, so keyhole and google's search are great... this other stuff they are trying to pull now is PR stunts to rack up stock prices and get themselves richer then heck..

yes go google  why don't we write our own software for once and compete instead of just making alliances to rebrand others...

But don't Microsoft just buy companies and integrate their technology a lot as well? Its competition so its a good thing I say.

Microsoft does a lot more then just rebranding though, they actually take on development and create new programs, and spend a lot of time optimizing programs they purchased from others... Google seems to put the minimalist effort into their aliance programs and just splash their logo all over it and throw it to the press where the press makes a huge deal out of nothing, MS buys a company the press doesn't do anything and their stock doesnt even move.. Google does something stock jumps, people at google get richer and the press throws it all over the news like its a revolution

I don't hate google, but hate SUN and any product from Sun, JAVA?!

586632487

I don't like Sun too :p And their stupid java.

There's still nothing to woory about, Microsoft Office is 1000% better than any other "office" suite

In Google we trust, lol. They're really going to be one of the biggest software monopolies when they're done won't they? Theres predictions they'll make their own OS too maybe it'll be a Linux shell lol, hell maybe they'll buy Linspire and call it theirs hehe.

I don't hate google, but hate SUN and any product from Sun, JAVA?! worst programming lanuage ever, waste my time when I had to use for assignment during the school time.

hah, you obviously don't know what you're talking about

Next up- Google OS  :ninja:

That would rock so much.

586632517

Why would that rock? It would most likely just be anothre Linux distro with windows styled after Google's sidebar. I don't see Google writing their own OS from the ground up.

These days, I trust Google way less than I trust Microsoft.

586632263

I like Google, but don't necessarily trust them.

It is nice, however, for people to have a choice in who they trust or not. Better than a Microsoft monopoly. ;)

i'l always prefer microsoft over google, google talk is pretty rubbish and if they are planning on making their new apps with the same GUI i dont think i'll bother, microsoft's office 12 looks amazing and i dont think google could top that, especially as a free product... soon u'll be able to install windows and have ms office built in as part of the package, inside the windows folder /windows/office/ google make excellent web products, their email is truly amazing and so is the search, a browser from google would be great with all those features built right in but office products...nahh!!!!!

    • Meta launches new AI glasses in 26 styles and Muse Spark multimodal capabilties by Pradeep Viswanathan Meta today announced a new line of Meta Glasses in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The new AI glasses build on the company’s existing smart glasses portfolio, which is sold under the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta brands. The new Meta Glasses start at just $299, are compatible with prescription lenses, and will be available in 26 styles across different colors, lenses, and frames. At launch, Meta Glasses will be available in three frame styles. The Meta Adventurer features a clean rectangular design and comes in Standard and Large sizes. The Meta Fury is a bolder frame for users who want a stronger look. Meta Glasses by Kylie is a slim oval frame designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner. Similar to existing Meta AI Glasses, the new Meta Glasses include a dedicated action button that can be used to quickly access Meta AI or launch a favorite feature. They also feature open-ear speakers for calls, music, and more. Meta has also included a multi-mic array with wind noise reduction for calls and messaging. Users can capture photos and videos hands-free using voice commands. Meta claims more than eight hours of battery life, while the portable charging case can provide up to 40 additional hours. As expected, Meta Glasses come pre-loaded with Meta AI powered by Muse Spark from day one. Muse Spark is the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs with improved multimodal capabilities. The same Meta AI upgrade is also now available on existing Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta Glasses in the US and Canada via an update. With the Muse Spark-powered AI assistant, Meta AI in the new glasses can provide smarter answers, understand what the user is seeing, and help with daily tasks such as calendar management and navigation. Meta also announced an upcoming feature called the dynamic photo feature, which captures multiple frames and recommends the best one. Pedestrian navigation is also coming soon to these glasses. Meta is also adding support for 14 new live translation languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Korean. The new Meta Glasses are available starting today through Meta.com, Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and select retailers.
    • is that a personal preference? whether it is or isn't, i get where you're coming from. i try to get and use fully open sourced applications whenever i can but there are instances where i find a superior product that is closed sourced. in these cases i do my best to learn about the company, who operates it, their background, parent and sub structure etc. to some extent, depending on "the smell test". i really believe that Syncback is really and truly something great. even if you don't use it, it's always worth a recommendation to someone else, especially if that someone else is not very computer literate. for someone of your calibre you, you'll manage just fine with Syncthing, no doubt about it.
    • I agree, especially if it is cloud sourced, like this one is.. but I wouldn't say no to a local AI assistant similar to the Zettlab one which would be really helpful with my large Photos library, but also to perform tasks like installing Docker apps rather than me having to do it via Docker Compose, but I don't think we're quite there yet. Synology Photos is somewhat AI, you can ask it to search for certain people (if you have tagged them and it will attempt to match similar photos to the person) and if you put a search term in for "cars" for example, it will show you all photos with a car.
