Faster XP Boot?

Recommended Posts

You can also make XP boot faster by tweaking the Primary/Secondary IDE channels...

Goto Device Manager >> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers >> Primary IDE Channel >> Advanced Settings tab; change the Transfer Mode to: "DMA if available" for both Device0, and Device1. Do the same for Secondary IDE Channel.

Note: If the Current Transfer Mode is set to "Not Applicable" for either Device, make sure you change the Device Type setting to "None". This will prevent windows from searching for IDE devices that aren't actually present.

When you're done, shutdown and restart - the boot process should be a little faster.

You can disable totally Prefetching via the registry!

Run regedit.exe then go to:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\MemoryManagement\PrefetchParameters

Change EnablePrefetcher value from 3 to 5 (decimal)

The website I read this on also said:

Note: Whatever you do DO NOT install a tool called BOOTVIS from Microsoft, unless you're absolutely sure of what you're doing and have good knowledge of the tool and it's use

:)
