Almighty1
I have the HP DVD200e using the 1.27 hacked firmware via the firewire interface. While every software can see the drive, anything using ASPI doesn't. I am using ForceASPI 1.7 which is Adaptec ASPI 4.60 (1021). Does anyone know of any ASPI drivers that will allow programs that require the ASPI layer to see the drive? I'm not sure if the issue is because the drive is not connected via IDE or SCSI like ASPI devices are or is it because DVD+RW drives aren't supported by ASPI layers yet. I've tried the ASPI layers from LSI Logic/Symbios and Nero with the same results. This is under WindowsXP Professional Edition.
yashiro
Latest ASPI drivers are available from www.adaptec.com (4071) Read this too: 1. Check you previous installation * run ASPICHK (included in the aspi_v471.exe ) * if WOWPOST.EXE or WINASPI.DLL show up and you are running winXP then search for those files in your windows directory (inc subdirs and hidden files) and DELETE them they are not needed for aspi on XP. 2. install ASPI 4.71 ( or later ) from adaptec Use the INSTALL.BAT to install after unzipping to make sure the correct files only are installed. 3.Windows NT/2K/XP MUST have these reg keys added if they aren't allready, otherwise some apps ( EAC, audiocatalyst, CDRWIN )wont show any aspi devices at all : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesASPI32Parameters] "ExcludeMiniports"="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesASPI32] "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001 "Start"=dword:00000002 "Type"=dword:00000001 4. reboot. if it still doesn't work, try changing "Start"=dword:00000002 to "Start"=dword:00000001

XtremeX
Where did you get your dvd hacks and what exactly are they meant to do?

It's to make a DVD RPC2 drive back to RPC1 so you can use DVD's from any region. Hacks and unhacked are available for many DVD drives from www.firmware.fr.st. My problem has nothing to do with the hack since I've used both the regular firmware and the hacked firmware. I've just tried what yashiro mentioned but it doesn't see the drive. It sees everything on my IDE and SCSI bus including my scanner but the Adaptec ASPI layer couldn't see anything connected via USB or Firewire as XtremeX is correct on. CDRWin 3.9A, CDRIdentifier v1.63, Feurio! v1.65 all couldn't see the drive because the ASPI layer can't see it. EZ CDCreator Platinum 5.1/DirectCD 5.1 both sees it fine after the drive database update. Guess EZCD doesn't use ASPI anymore. Nero 5.5.9.0 and DiscJuggler 4.0.1022 both see the drive without problems. Exact Audio Copy can't see the drive either. I know there is a ASPI layer somewhere that works with Firewire/USB devices but just haven't been able to find it. Even Feurio! claims that an update to whatever ASPI driver I have will support Firewire/USB devices.
yashiro
I'm sorry it didn't work. 471 is the latest aspi version from adaptec so it should work. You will have to try a web search. Try some cdr sites too.

Yeah except ASPI came originally from Adaptec and it's mainly for their SCSI cards to support devices so I guess until they start supporting USB/Firewire, it won't work. I tried doing a websearch but all it said was to install LSI's ASPI and then replace the WNASPI32.DLL with the one from Nero's site for firewire/USB but that didn't work either. manroweb
Try this out CompelASPI Description: Compel intstall Adaptec Inc. WinASPI without any adaptec controller (SCSI/IDE/USB/1394). Current WinAspi version : 4.60(1021) Version: 1.0 Filesize: 427.00 Kb Download Hope this helps! :)

I think I saw that one but the 4.60 (1021) scared me off since isn't that the Adaptec 4.60 version hacked just like ForceASPI? I'm going to five it a try and see what happens... Here is the message from Feurio!: WARNING: CD-ROM-device(s) not detected by the ASPI-manager! You have configured the access mode "ASPI" for Feurio!, i.e. Feurio! uses the ASPI-manager for accessing the devices. But Feurio! noticed, that the drive(s): "J:" were not detected by the ASPI-manager - so Feurio! can't access this/these drive(s). Probably your ASPI-manager isn't up-to-date, or you're using USB- or Firewire-drives, that are not recognised by the ASPI-manager. To use this/these drive(s), either you can update the ASPI-manager, or toggle the access-mode of Feurio! to "DeviceIoControl". To do this, please select at the menu "Program" the entry "Program parameters", then select the property sheet "Access mode" - there select "DeviceIoControl". It didn't work either so back to the drawing board! :(
username
ASPI does not work over fire wire, it is designed originally for SCSI but later adapted to IDE
Almighty1
Originally posted by username ASPI does not work over fire wire, it is designed originally for SCSI but later adapted to IDE Yep, you're right on that one... I wonder if Adaptec would support their Firewire/USB cards with devices hooked up to it in the future... I switched to Nero ASPI by replacing %systemroot%system32WNASPI32.DLL with the one from www.cdspeed2000.com and everything except CDRIdentifier 1.63 works. Feurio! 1.65, CDRWin 3.9a, and Exact Audio Copy 0.9 Beta 4 is getting the drive to show up and working but CDRIdentifier v1.63 still doesn't see the drive so maybe it's a limitation of CDRIdentifier www.gum.de/cdrid/? Almighty1
Guess the Nero ASPI didn't work too well. It works for writing but for reading, unless I had a disc in each of the drives during bootup, WinXP won't be able to detect the contents of the disc and show it as 0 bytes in size :( Kinda weird Adaptec isn't including Firewire/USB in their ASPI drivers as they make USB/Firewire cards as well.
