unless they changed something drastic from rc1 to final, .NET 1.1 and 2.0 are totally different platforms, and work side by side

Interesting. I've been using v1.1 for a long time and work in C# in my job aswell, though i havent been following the v2 development (i did attend a few Microsoft conventions on VS2005).

Any major improvements\differences i need to know about ?

Transparency Stuff actualy works like its supposed to, and soo much better from what i have noticed, apparently there is a new encrypted string too

C# now has partial classes, anonymous functions, generics, nullable types.

ASP.NET has a new compilation system, new controls, callbacks, bigger page lifetime model, XHTML support, master pages, themes.

Windows Forms has new controls, ClickOnce, and um, well I'm a web developer ;)

Visual Studio has a new project system (MSBuild), code snippets, refactoring, better intellisense, an HTML editor that actually preserves your HTML, debugger visualizations.

There's probably tons more I forgot.

Yes, applications do work. But Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 does not.

You should keep both versions on your machine for application compatibility reasons.
