Revolution Graphics Will Be Equal To Competitors

people dont want the originality, they want normal games not waving controllers about.

Speak for yourself. If I wanted to play games the same way I would just stick with a previous generation. Seeing Generic Car Racing/FPS/Sports version 12 look slightly better than 11 and play exactly the same is not worth $500 to me.

When I showed the NR vid to people who don't game all that much they seemed excited about it too.

Yeah, whatever. There has been no real change to the controller since the thumbstick, so I'm assuming you're still playing an N64 or PS1, right? Because if you've upgraded to anything else, that would make you a hypocrite.

well i kind of meant what the masses want.

N64 was the last console I played much. I did get a PS2, but only got a few games for it before I realized that better graphics didn't make the games much different. Knowing what I do now I would have never bought it. I picked up a Gamecube when I was on vacation and extremely bored, wouldn't have bought it if I had thought to bring a console with me, or had a computer. I mostly play PC games now, but I expect that to change with NR

well i kind of meant what the masses want.

I'm sorry, I guess I missed your source indicating what the masses want. What YOU want isn't always what the masses want.

People want the same old **** now, sure, but in 2 years time once the 'wow' factor wears off and they see this really is pretty much the same crap with 2 stuck on the end, more people will try out the NR, and will stick with the NR.

So all you people really don't mind waving your controller in the air the whole time you play? If you play some FPS..say..Metroid Prime 3 or whatever for 2 hours, you can honestly move your arms in the air for that long? Ha. We'll see but I doubt it. I think you'll find that Nintendo will use this odd controller to make odd new "innovative" games that a few fans will scream is awesome but most people don't like. And I think you'll find that third parties will try to make games for the Revolution but they'll struggle with the controller making shoddy games and within a year stop trying at all. And you guys can talk about how "gameplay" is all that, but speaking from someone old enough to have started by playing Astroids before the Atari 2600.. trust me graphics matter. I want fun gameplay and better graphics, or why bother buying new hardware? I have a gamecube, but odd controller + no HDTV means that I will not buy a Revolution. What I don't get is, why is Nintendo even bothering with this if they don't want to make the best console? They could ditch the console all together, and innovate with games+accessories for other systems. Plus make big cash doing it.

You keep your arms at your sides and your hands in your lap like you would with a normal controller. Controller movement does not need to be drastic waving, subtle movements will do unless if the game requires it such as throwing a football or casting a fishing line.

blah blah blah

I'd rather be burning calories by waving my arms around like a 'tard for a couple hours then becoming another overweight American by sitting in front of my TV all day.

Playstation 3 40 times better than Playstation 2

XBOX 360 30 times better than XBOX

Revolution 2 times better than Gamecube.

This data clearly shows that Revolution is the greatest system in the entire galaxy, and i have Sega to back me up!

You should read up on the "false dilemma" logical fallacy.

i agree, Sega clearly showed that raw processing power alone can win the race :p The point is, Revolution is 2x as good as gamecube and the other systems are 40 and 30 times better right? There's something called DIMINITIONING RETURN. What this means is that the more power you give systems the less it'll mean in the end, the WOWing ability of the system WILL get less with every year and will finally end when we can create completely realistic looking graphics, which btw, isn't too far off. Geforce6800u was 3x faster than the 5900u and the 7800gt is 2x faster than the 6800u and all of that happened in like what??? two years time; if that? The graphics war is over no matter what you argue.

I heard that as well, but there was never a source. I really don't want you spreading false news like that. And why use the term 'better'? Maybe 'more powerful'

Secondly, PS2 was the weakest of them all, so 40x the ps2 is like 10x the xbox. And having played the 360, it is not 30x more powerful than the xbox.

Either is acceptable, good try though. Even though it wouldn't have invalidated his point.

586755862[/snapback]

actually diminitioning is not acceptable. it is not a word. and answers.com does not prove that it is, in fact, answers.com says that diminitioning is not a word.

he does make a good point, even if it is spelled wrong.

i think another point that needs to be made is that the playstation 3 and xbox 360 are nowhere near 30 and 40 times faster than their current gen counterparts.... its just marketing hype bull****. nintendo doesnt take part in that crap.

No, but had he said diminishing returns, that would have been acceptable. He didn't, so you can take your sarcastic "good try" and put it away somewhere safe.

I'm sorry, I thought you were criticizing the phrase and not the spelling

In that case...

Yeah, whatever.  There has been no real change to the controller since the thumbstick, so I'm assuming you're still playing an N64 or PS1, right?  Because if you've upgraded to anything else, that would make you a hypocrite.

Thumbstick is not a word, I think you meant analog control stick, nice try though.

Thumbstick is not a word, I think you meant analog control stick

Although thumbstick isn't technically a word, it's used commonly enough by gamers that everyone knows what it means. You'll get way more hits on a web search for "thumbstick" than you will for "analog control stick." However, you'll get zero hits searching for "DIMINITIONING."

Please, don't even try to get smart with me. I'll win every time.

Clearly you missed my point. I was pointing out that there is something wrong with many posts as far as spelling and grammar. Pointing it out every time is just picky, especially when it is clear what they mean

As for the hits on thumbstick, that is because there is a product named "Thumbstick". Only two of the links on the first page of a google search are using thumbstick in the way you are. Guess how many of the "analog control stick" results do.

how did a thread about the graphics of the revolution turn into a rev controller hate fest? :p anyways, im not at all surprised that the rev will have graphis just as good as the others, think about it, what do u need for better graphics? just throw some powerful hardware at it, and thats not hard to obtain!

    • Major Xbox layoffs may claim South of Midnight developer Compulsion entirely by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft has been making major changes in its gaming wing Xbox for a few months now, including the appointment of a new CEO, a large number of leadership changes, and strategy shifts. However, the company is seemingly also looking at initiating a major layoffs wave at Xbox and perhaps even a studio closure. The new report lands from Kotaku, Xbox first-party developer Compulsion Games is being shuttered soon by Microsoft. For those unfamiliar with the studio, it's the team behind Contrast (2013), We Happy Few (2018), and South of Midnight (2025). Its latest game was quite well received, even winning a Peabody Award for its writing. It even received a 9/10 in Neowin's own review, highlighting its engaging storyline, gorgeous world, and curious characters. The studio joined Xbox Game Studios in 2018, just as Microsoft announced it is acquiring Playground Games, Undead Labs, and Ninja Theory. Despite recent listings for new staff roles, according to the new report, Compulsion Games is being closed entirely, with over 90 staff being let go. Kotaku also added that the studio's leadership is in negotiations with Microsoft about this decision, but no official details have been revealed yet. The report lands just as two senior managers of Xbox leave their posts at Microsoft Gaming. Head of Xbox Game Studios Craig Duncan and chief of staff Louise O'Connor originally began their journey in Rare and have been a part of Xbox for over two decades. Dunkan has been responsible for games like Kinect Sports and Sea of Thieves, while O'Connor was primarily working on Rare's Everwild project before its cancelation. If this report about the studio shutdown is accurate, this may just be the start of a major new layoffs wave at Xbox Game Studios. There are also rumors of Arkane Studios being heavily affected. As always, take all these reports with a grain of salt until something official materializes from Microsoft or the studios.
    • The flaw with this analysis is that this laptop has a cellphone CPU in it. In the Intel world, that would be an N150 and those are everywhere, even in low end laptops. You can get an N150 based NUC with 16GB RAM and 256GB-512GB SSD... NOT soldered in... for < $500 Canadian (around US$360). The problem is two fold: tech bloggers/writers on most tech site (like this one, ironically) overvalue Apple and apparently aren't in the same earnings class as most regular people. As a result, we get breathless articles about how everyone needs a folding phone when most people just cannot afford one... or really need one. And we get Apple used as the baseline metric regardless of whether that comparison makes any sense. If Dell or HP released a retail laptop with a cellphone motherboard, you'd be all over them for doing that - but Apple does it and it's genius. I see articles suggesting what Samsung - a company that basically started the foldable phone market and has built them for eight years - needs to do to compete with Apple's unreleased, unspecced and unseen folding phone. Sorry, no - if the Neo (really creative name there BTW - still, better than the Go, the other "creative" product name everyone's using) encourages PC makers to make cellphone laptops using lower end ARM processors, we all lose. It's a step backwards and a capitulation to the fact that semiconductor makers and computer OEMs (and tech bloggers) have totally lost the plot.
