Firewall: iptables

Intrusion Detection/Sort of Firewall/Anti-Exploitation: Snort IDS, HostSentry

Biggest Security: I DO NOT LOG IN AS SUPERADMIN/ROOT!

Even if Windows users wouldn't do that, then they'd have a much more secure system.

Network security:

550 MHz IBM Celeron box running SmoothWall 2

IPtables with custom ruleset

Snort intrusion detection system set up to automatically block IPs if an attack is detected, and shutdown network / text message my cellphone if firewall is breached

Transparent web proxy

Stateful inbound and outbound packet inspection

Wireless network:

802.11g 108 MBps with WPA-Radius encryption with unique, rotating keys (assigned to authorized MACs only), SSID broadcast off. Directional antennas to reduce signal outside the target area.

Server:

Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition with all updates, everything locked down as much as possible (too long a list). ActiveDirectory, domain server, Exchange. Automatically backed up every night.

Windows boxes:

Norton SystemWorks w/ Antivirus & Internet Security 2005 (although it really doesn't do jack $h!t)

AdAware

Network shares are all password protected

12 character passwords on all user accounts, guest account disabled

Linux boxes:

ShoreWall or IPtables, all updates, the usual.

Physical security:

5 inferred security cameras on closed circut, recorded on a dedicated computer. Two deadbolts on each door, German Sheppard guard dog, owner with a 12 gauge :)

My current setup has never been hacked. Retina, Nessus, nmap, etc... can't find any holes in my network. I'm sure its possible to break it, but I think it would be quite a challenge even for reasonably skilled hackers. And if they did get in, I'd know about it...

Yes, I'm paranoid.

Peace,

Pete Zaria.

did you guy's know that there is a security bulltin regarding snort that came out not long ago that states it is a security breach at this point as per some codes can be exploited to gain access to your machine, so for does running it please make sure you have not anything wrong with it by visiting there main web site.

But again snort is a very good prog against the hackers.
