Sony kicks DRM up a notch for upcomming PS3

Recommended Posts

A PATENT may allow Sony to ensure that no game would be playable from any console other than the one in which it was first read.

Source: The Inquirer

Hopefully just a rumor (like most inquirer news), but if this is true I really don't see how Sony will be able to compete with Microsoft and Nintendo.

wasnt trying to point out that it was already posted (its from a diff source anyway) just trying to point out as there are more sources saying this, could mean bad news, i hope its not ture, as i also tend to purchase 2nd hand games.

HAHAHHA

I can't wait to see the SOny Fan boys appear and say

"OH Sony is so awseommmme I mean Who wants someone else game with there germs I mean SICKKKK"

or

"Now Microsoft needs to catch up to us again cause our 600 dollar system is so awsome It Tells me what it won't do!"

Yeah hopefully just a rumour. If not, I'm sure it will be hacked by someone in no time!

having a patent and using a patent are two different things. Often times companies will patent any idea that floats in their heads, not for the sake of using it themselves but for the sake of charging others who wish to use it. And even if Sony uses this patent with the ps3 they would obviously have a way to transfer license ownership, which will still probably be a pain but what can do, eh?

Excellent news. This will curb piracy and also put a stop to reselling used games which hurts the gaming industry. I was debating on whether to get a 360 or wait for a PS3 but I think I will now go with PS3 because Sony is taking realistic steps to curb piracy.

Support the company people, buy games NEW not used.

Umm what happens if you have two PS3 consoles... do we buy two of the games just because they wont let us use it on the other console?

thats **** man, what if i want to go to my friends house and play my game with a group of people...?

Yea whatever, company man.

Tell me genius, how are you going to feel about that crap after you amass a good collection of PS3 titles and your system dies after 2 years use? I suppose you're going to tell me tough titty and buy all my games over AFTER I just had to replace my PS3??!!

    • So, an article that has nothing to do with Windows 11, still gets Windows 11 in the title and a build number as the picture? Dell have a buggy build of Support Assist HP have UEFI settings that need unlocking for the secureboot cert upgrade to take place.
    • What I can't seem to understand is that Google are paying SpaceX? Surely it would be the other way round, with SpaceX needing Google's datacenters etc.? Oh well, this level of money and power is way outside of my comprehension at the best of times.
    • "77ee94b helium/windows: winsparkle updater (built-in auto-update support on Windows" If that's what I think it is, that is about the only thing that's been missing from this excellent browser. I guess I'll find out the next time I'm on a Windows machine.
