-JMC-
Hi Iam trying to connect to the Neowin IRC server (irc.neowin.net) through port 6669. For some reason 6667 dosn't work with any server, probably something to do with my rubbish router and I can't find out to how configure it. Anyway, I try to connect but it looks as though the server is actually banning me. This is the error message I get through HydraIRC: [18:25] *** Socket Error (10061: The attempt to connect was forcefully rejected) [18:25] *** Unable to connect to IRC server Anyone have any idea what this is and how I can sort it? Thanks Jether Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/398227-irc-connection-problem/ Share on other sites
+M2Ys4U Subscriber¹ Posted November 15, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted November 15, 2005 Because the iRC server isn't listening on 6669. Thought that would have been pretty obvious personally. -JMC-
But usually all IRC servers listen to port 6669. Why dosn't this one? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/398227-irc-connection-problem/#findComment-586814151 Share on other sites
Colin-uk Veteran Posted November 15, 2005 Veteran Share Posted November 15, 2005 Yes, i believe the server is only listening on that port So sounds like you may need to configure your router Thiis may help http://www.portforward.com :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/398227-irc-connection-problem/#findComment-586814163 Share on other sites
-JMC-
humm this is really weird... Its allowing port 6669 through my router (U.S. Robotics 9003 SureConnect ADSL Router) but 6667 dosn't work as i've said. But why lol? Theres nothing there at all to block it. Also I've tried to follow the instructions: http://portforward.com/english/routers/por...t/mIRC_Chat.htm but for the "public address" it says non-availale... surly thats not possible, I have to have a public IP address. Lol anyone got an information about that? lol sorry i keep aksing noobie questions. +M2Ys4U Subscriber¹ Posted November 16, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted November 16, 2005 Not all other servers do. AFAIK 6667 is the de facto default port, and I know of quite a few who only listen on 6667 unless explicitly told otherwise in their config.
