RIP.

I agree with you njlouch. I hate how people act all nice just because someone died.

A couple of months ago some dumb chav kid killed himself trying to do stunts on his moped. After he died the local papers all had storys about how he was a good, kind, clever, helpful boy who was a great addition to society.

I generally knew of him and in reality he was a dumb chav ###### who went around stealing, mugging, beating people up, shoplifting, vandelising, and generally acting like an idiot all of the time. He died acting like the complete idiot he was and then everyone says its such a shame. It was a good thing in my eyes.

George Best was a good player but he spent the rest of his life acting like an idiot. I'm sure alot of other people deserved that liver better then him.

Son Calum, 24, who had kept an all-night vigil at Best's bedside, said: "Not only have I lost my dad but we've all lost a wonderful man."

Best died in intensive care at 1255 GMT on Friday following "a long and very valiant fight", said a statement from west London's Cromwell Hospital.

The ex-Manchester United and Northern Ireland star had multiple organ failure following weeks of ill health.

BBC News

George Best disgraced himself as an alcoholic, when drunk he broke the law and beat his wife, his language was also very colourful. That was his anal side.

The flipside what we hope to remember him for, all the charity monies he raised, his football skills his knowledge.

Lets remember him for what he earn't his living at which was football.

The post about the chav, well I wish people would tell the turth and bury the PC'ness. Hope your area is better off without that lunatic.

Good to see I'm not the only one sobbing about a loser kicking the bucket. Sure he may have been a good football player way back when but so what? What has he done since? And why is there such mass grief for such bad example of a man?

Yeah, may he rest in peace and may the rest of the population start living in 2005!

Amen

R.I.P, And to all those people saying things to the effect of "he deserved it", fancy going and saying that to his son, sister, brothers and father? thought not

He himself obviously had no consideration for those he left behind.

At the end of the day, he was the greatest football the world has ever seen, one of the nicest people anyone could ever meet, would go out of his way to help others and will be sadly missed.

He was a football? :|

Are you telling me that you would seriously go up to his family and say "I don't mind. He had it coming."? People act nice because of empathy. It is where you put yourself in to someone else's position, and think "how would I feel if I were in their shoes?" If you were in his family's position, you would probably be feeling real bad right now, and you would want to have people try to comfort you. Having some insensitive person saying "the guy had it coming" isn't something you want to hear, at least not right after the event.

RIP George Best

While I do agree with you going against his post. However look more into George Bests case and then you'll see after he got the liver transplant he drank again even after recommendations from the doctor not to. I dont think empathy works here given him not following advice.

Either way though, he died, he's famous, he's a hero in English football, he deserves to be remembered. Though CNN and BBC both treated this as "Breaking News". Hardly deserves that... Breaking News should only be used when a tragedy such as Katrina, falling of WTC, the Tsunami of 2004, and suicide bombings occur. When one man dies, it should be treated just like another death. Dont glorify it! Please!

Was this the guy that got a liver transplant, and continued to drink after that, essentially ****ing that one away, too? Great player!

Too bad for his family....Too bad for the family of the other person that would have actually appreciated the transplant.

Spot on mate.

I cant stand football. But this guy irritated me from his off pitch antics. Boozing etc. Ok fair play it might not be that easy to quit. But come on getting a new liver off someone then going out on the **** again. Damn

I have no sympathy for people who drink their self to a stupor. Alcoholic abuse it one of the biggest killers next to cancer and heart disease. People who educe alcohol to the point of not being able to control their bodily functions and/or walk or stand up I have no sympathy for.

I feel sorry for the poor family who donated the kidney to George Best and he still carried on drinking. What does that say? Self pity and carelessness. :pinch:

Alright, yes I agree with this. He had his second chance and continued to drink. However, empathy still has a place here, because whatever happened, his family is still going to be sad. When I was talking about empathy, I was more indicating the family, not Best himself.

Thats just the way News works, he was famous therefore it was breaking news.

I think the defining bit of "breaking news" would be the "breaking" bit, indicating either "happening as we speak" or "incredibly recent event." This might be why it has been put under that section. Also, the BBC at least have been following this news story since Best was admitted to hospital. This might be another reason for the placing of the article under "breaking news."

Correct mate.

They dont mention that on the news do they?

"he was an amazing footballer" no he wasnt. Not by todays standards, he wouldnt last 5 mins in a match today (if he had his health). My dead gran would be a good footballer back in the day.

Joke:

george best is lying in hospital when the nurse approaches him "george" she said "ive got some good news and some bad news"

"give me the bad news first" replied george

"ok" "you have one hour to live"

"omg" gasped george

"what can be the f*cking good news then?"

"its happy hour at the pub over the road" the nurse said

What?? He wouldn't last 5 minutes today? did you see the state of the pitches back then, it would be like playing on a field, he would come off the pitch covered in blood sometimes because players would just kick chunks out of him, players nowadays get so much more protection

BTW, I've never been to a hospital with a pub in

I had the pleasure of meeting George a few times, as he lived in my local community briefly.  He was the kindest gentleman and he was more than keen to let the children play football in his garden at anytime, even watching them himself.  The quote below is ........

Yeah that was clearly the safest place for the kids. If they had been playing near the street he might have run them over in one of his drunk driving excursions.

He was clearly a great footballer. A legend I have no doubt.

But he ****ed it away and didn't have the guts to get himself sorted out. He wasted someone else's liver and could have killed people drink driving. If anyone else had done that and beat up a copper they would be ripped a new on by the press. Not given a front page epitaph. That's another thing to hate about the Daily Mail; they have Best all over the front page like a god and have been crying blue murder over how the 24hr drinking will be the end of all humanity. I am sick of it. I bet they won't have Jeremy Beadle all over the front pages when he dies; he has done ten times as much for charity yet since all he has is withered hand and a bad TV CV instead of a good football career, then he has got far less public worth. Not that they should give a dam when Beadle dies, it's just an example.

    • NVIDIA announces 35 new AI HPC supercomputers across Europe by Fiza Ali NVIDIA has announced that 35 AI high-performance computing (HPC) supercomputers are planned to open throughout Europe this year. This marks what the company describes as the largest single-year expansion of AI infrastructure in the history of the continent. These new systems, unveiled at ISC High Performance 2026, will be placed at a number of national supercomputing centres, AI factories, and research institutes to provide advanced computing resources to more than three million researchers. Describing AI, NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated, "AI is the new instrument of science, and Europe is building the infrastructure to put it in the hands of millions of researchers." Built on NVIDIA's Blackwell and Hopper architectures, the new systems will support research in climate science, healthcare, clean energy, quantum computing, and other scientific fields. Among the major projects are the Barcelona Supercomputing Center's MareNostrum 5 AI upgrade, BavariaAI's Blue Swan platform in Germany, Italy's IT4LIA AI factory, Germany's HammerHAI project, and Sweden's Mimer AI Factory. The Barcelona Supercomputing Center plans to expand MareNostrum 5 with NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 and GB200 NVL4 systems. In total, the BSC expects to deliver up to 20 exaflops of AI training performance and 33 exaflops of AI inference performance. This increased computational capability will support research efforts related to climate modelling, biotechnology, energy systems, etc. Furthermore, as part of the IT4LIA project, more than 8,000 GPUs, each based on NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL4 architecture, will be used in Italy. This represents one of the largest AI factory initiatives announced to date. Additionally, the Blue Swan platform from BavariaAI will include about 1,000 GPUs to help develop multimodal AI models for use in the medical field, robotics, and various areas of scientific research. NVIDIA also emphasized in the announcement how rapidly growth of accelerated computing usage is taking place within both energy and climate-related research. The company said Siemens Energy uses NVIDIA-powered technologies to significantly accelerate the process of designing and simulating hydrogen-capable gas turbines. Using those same acceleration technologies, Siemens was able to reduce simulation time by up to 77 percent. The company also highlighted several quantum computing initiatives across Europe. CINECA, EuroHPC, and Pasqal are integrating a quantum processing unit into Italy's CINECA supercomputing centre using NVIDIA's CUDA-Q platform. Meanwhile, researchers at Germany's Julich Supercomputing Centre recently simulated a universal 50-qubit quantum computer on the JUPITER supercomputer. The announcement demonstrates Europe's continued commitment to building out its infrastructure supporting AI and supercomputing as governments, research organizations, and technology companies compete to build out their respective computing capacities and secure their positions in advanced scientific research.
    • It's about to become harder to turn off your Samsung TV, thanks to Instagram by Aditya Tiwari Meta announced that its Instagram for TV app has arrived on Samsung TVs in the US as part of its latest expansion, giving users one more way to scroll through Reels. The social media giant often comes under scrutiny for the "addictiveness" of its features, which leads people to spend excessive time on the platform. Interestingly, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri described spending 16 hours on the platform as "problematic use" but not "clinical addiction." Mosseri also compared scrolling on Instagram to binge-watching a show on Netflix. Instagram for TV is now available on Samsung TV models released in 2020 or later. The app is already available on Amazon Fire TV and Google TV in the US, which together account for the majority of connected TV devices. The company said it will test several new features to improve the living room and family experience while using Instagram on the big screen. Watching vertical videos on a big screen isn't something many would be excited about. Probably that's why Meta is testing a dedicated home for horizontal videos. Creators will get the opportunity to design content for TV screens and get more ways to reach audiences, according to Meta. If you found an interesting Reel while doomscrolling on your phone, you'll be able to cast it to your TV. The feature is available for testing on Instagram for TV on Google TV and Amazon Fire TV, and it will also support videos from the Saved tab. Instagram for TV will be testing Channels organized around user interests, across genres such as comedy and sports, as well as content from favorite creators. Moreover, you can watch Stories on your TV. While Instagram is known for short-form videos, it's knocking on more doors to keep the audience hooked. The company said it's exploring new content formats for the big screen, including long-form creator content to cover topics in detail, episodic series to build suspense across multiple episodes, and creator live sessions on TV. All of the new updates put Instagram in competition with established giants like YouTube (and Netflix), which already have a robust presence on the big screen. In recent updates, Instagram added the ability to write an individual caption for each carousel image, manually re-order posts, and a paid version of the app.
    • I know RAM and storage prices are high right now, but I think it would have been better to have 1TB as the base level storage, especially as it's supposed to be for gaming. Plus a 2.5gbe ethernet port rather than only 1gbe.
