Hi,when i try to boot from the dvd i get instantly the error BlInitializeLibrary failed 0xc0000017. on another computer it went fine, so the dvd is not corrupt.

i changed every component of my computer except the mainboard, the cpu and the memory.

i tried an old dvd drive, an old ide hdd, an old pci graphics card, removed the sound card, removed and changed the ram modules... but no change, i could not boot the dvd. i also tried installing from winxp, but when it comes to reboot the same error occures as with the dvd.

Windows XPpro SP2 runs fine with all these components. I dont have any clue what causes this problem. i reset all bios options, tried to set some (like cool n quiet etc)....

my system:

Asus A8N32-SLI

Corsair TWINX2048 3500LL PRO

XFX GeForce7800GTX Extreme XXX

SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite pro

Plextor PX716SA (SATA DVD Burner)

2x Western Digital WD740GD Raptor 74GB SATA hard drives -> raid0

i can't setup my vista 5259 too.

but I have another type of problem.

i don't wanna to create another thread, so i'll post it here:

so, setup starts... i entering serial, then some files copied to my hard drive, > restart > and when the longhorn logo shows my pc is going to reboot. no error or other codes

The only time I've encountered this is on older hardware that doesn't meat the Vista spec anyway, such as a P3 800 with 128MB ram.

my scpecs is

EPoX EP-8RDA3+ on nForce2 Ultra400

barton3200+

512 ram

sapphire 9600 xt 128 mb

looks like not so old :p

I am getting the same problem as this with the 5720 Build. I have the same motherboard A8N32-SLi, and a single Raptor drive, so I guess the MB is causing the problems.

Same thing here. I looked in the Asus forums, but no luck. This is killing me, because I really want to try this build out.

Thought I was going to be slick, and run it from Windows on my other partition. Then as soon as it rebooted BAM. Had to run fix boot on my XP partition just to get back into Windows.

Try writing the image to a different DVD disk, if you used -r use +r. I have documented the bug with MS and have been able to re-produce it.

I have seen this on several systems, and others have try this and it seems to fix the issue in most cases.

Well, I have nearly the same hardware configuration and have the same problem with

the "BlInitializeLibrary failed 0xc0000017" message at the boot time.

Here's my hardware

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe (nForce-4 chipset)

Athlon 64 (Venice) 3200+ (2.00 GHz)

2GB main memory DDR400 ECC Kingston KVR400x72C3A/1G (2 DIMMs)

GeForce 6200 PCI-exp16 MSI NX6200TC-TD64ESLF

320GB SATA disk WD3200JD

DVD+/- Double Layer IDE NEC ND-3550A

This new computer has been successfully installed with Win XP-Pro.

I failed to install Win98SE. At the first reboot after installation from CD,

Win98SE crashes at the beginning no matter what (with some device driver

executing an illegal opcode). That's a surprise. But, my real problem is with

the new Longhorn installation.

Somewhat similar to my experience with Win98SE (the initial reboot fails),

the Longhorn installation went fine and at the first re-boot, the screen shows

"BlInitializeLibrary failed 0xc0000017" and hangs. I'm using the Beta 1

version (build 5112).

I don't believe this is related to DVD. This message is generated by

the boot sequence from the hard disk that apparently does not have the

right device driver or something on the hard disk. It is believed that

the nForce4-based motherboard is not well tested/supported by Microsoft

for the Longhorn (Vista) environment.

The same Vista beta version runs well on my 4-year old system

with Asus P4T-E MB with Pentium 4 1.9 GHz (512 MB RDRAM).

It seems that the Longhorn does not come with all the necessary drivers

for this motherboard. The next step that I plan to take is to contact

Asus who may know somethingi about this problem.

    • Rufus 4.9.2256 by Razvan Serea Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility Rufus 4.8.2253 changelog: Switch to wimlib for all WIM image processing: Greatly speeds up image analysis when opening Windows ISOs Can speed up Windows To Go drive creation (But won't do miracles if you have a crap drive) Might help with Parallels limitations on Mac (But Rufus on Parallels is still unsupported) Enables the splitting of >4GB files with Alt-E (But still WAY SLOWER than using UEFI:NTFS) Others Switch to using Visual Studio binaries everywhere, due to MinGW DLL delay-loading limitations Add more exceptions for Linux ISOs that restrict themselves to DD mode (Nobara, openSUSE, ...) Improve reporting of UEFI bootloaders in the log, with info on the Secure Boot status Fix an issue with size limitations when writing an uncompressed VHD back to the same drive Fix a crash when opening the log with the 32-bit MinGW compiled version Fix commandline parameters not being forwarded to original Windows setup.exe Rufus 4.9.2256 fixes: Fix downloads from https://rufus.ie no longer working due to recent GitHub server changes Fix unofficial Windows ISOs, with single index WIMs, not presenting the WUE dialog Download: Rufus 4.9 | Portable | ~2.0 MB (Open Source) Download: Rufus 32-bit | ARM64 Links: Rufus Home Page | Project Page @GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware

It displays basic HDD (also SSD and USB-HDD) information, monitors S.M.A.R.T. values and disk temperature. It will also display the S.M.A.R.T data as a list so you can see the specific issue that a hard drive may have. It provides a health rating based on your drive’s SMART status, plus will list its temperature, enabling you to see just how hot your drives are running. As various factors approach thresholds of danger, CrystalDiskInfo will alert you, letting you know it's time to make backups while you still can.
