Well, I grown up in the 90's, which means I'm more a new-generation guy. Even if NES was a superb console, won't I get the retro feeling playing it. My first console was a Nintendo 64, and I loved it - and I still do actully. For what you call the current generation (outdated) I voted Xbox. Had many, many nice times with that console. Later on I switched to Xbox 360 - which I think is the best console ever made (for my use). I understand why you old guys around here (20-30+) vote for the good old NES and SNES, but I didn't have the times with those consoles, and if I try them now I wont get the "WOW" feeling you did back in the 80's.

So I ended up voting Xbox 360 for next-gen, Xbox for "current" gen and Nintendo 64 for the old-gen.

The Wii got my vote as it is so revolutionary, then the DS for the same reasons. Then b4 that I voted for the N64 mainly due to games like Goldeneye and Mario64, coz they were much better than the rest of the competition at the time and are still very playable today.

I probably sound like a big Nintendo fan, but that isnt true. I actaully want a PS3 next opposed to a Wii, but felt the Wii deserved my vote.

Now (7th Gen): PS3

6th Gen:PS2/Dreamcast

5th Gen:Playstation/N64

4th Gen:Mega Drive/SNES

Using your generation guide, my votes would be:

7th Gen Xbox 360

6th Gen Dream Cast (though I think this is closer to 5th Gen)

5th Gen Nintendo 64

4th Gen SNES

All Time Super Nintendo Entertainment System!

No DC is considered the very first console of the 6th gen. It rivalled a lot of games when the PS2 first came out in terms of gfx. Plus, it was the first console to come standard with a modem and web browser. That's why it's seperated from the 5th gen  It was the DC vs PS2, Gamecube & Xbox. 5th Gen it was between Saturn, PS1 & N64 (not going to count the 3DO etc :p).

Well even though I own a PS3, I'll give the 360 the edge for "next-gen". However, Home could change things if it ever comes out.

Last gen, PS2 hands down. I think it's hard to argue that one.

All-time: The original NES. I mean, I grew up with it. I love it!

Okay, I bought a 360, sold it for a PS3, and then got back my 360. And I can tell you one thing for sure: The PS3 is a LOT more premium experience than a 360. The XMB is very clean, lean and highly streamlined as compared to the cluttery, crammed up and a very AVERAGE interface of the 360 which also is not as productive for me. The PS3's xbo is so much smoother and less jittery when compared to the 360s interface. Put it simply: The PS3 feel likes driving a BMW, while the 360 feels like a modified ricer.

Even the controller, I thought I;d like the 360s controller more, due to my liking of FPSes, but after actually trying to play Halo, I came to a certain conclusion: Controllers will always suck for FPSes. Nothing matches the keyboard + mouse. (A KB+mouse will beat the crap out of a controller in a FPS multiplayer, any day.) So discounting that, I ended up liking the PS3 Controller much, much more. It's smaller, lighter and the controls are right there and not to spread out like on the 360s controller.

And finally; on games: Both the consoles seem to have their fair share of good games, so there isn't much to debate about here, though I have to mention that the PS3's titles seem more nice and unique. I raelly like titles like God of War and Lair, and games like Little Big Planet are just nice. PS3's games seem to be made with the more "out of the box" thought.

Now you might ask, why did I get the 360 back? Simply because the PS3 games, as they're not officially sold here, are a lot more expensive the the same games that come out for the 360. I might invest in a PS3 again later when the prices come down and when God of War 3 is released.

I always liked the XMB from when I first got my PSP. The transition from PSP to PS3 was quite natural and very easy. I never liked the Xbox dashboard, as I always though of it like "Fisher Price: My First UI". Yes it is functional but I don't think it has that 'upmarket' feel the xmb has.

The inprovements implemented for the PSN store has further reinforced that feeling, as before the web browser based store felt clunky and tacked on.

Xbox 360, for one reason only; it has the greatest joypad ever invented. The PS3 would otherwise have taken it as I love the xbar interface and media capabilities.

Xbox, XBMC on my soft-modded xbox was the coolest **** ever.

Dreamcast, just for sheer innovation and balls. Plus I loved Metropolis Street Racer, the precursor to the Project Gotham series.

SNES/PS2/PC.. These would have to be my fav.. Hard to judge tho as I still own my Atari 2600 up to my PS2 and a lot in between.. (About 20 consoles in boxes stored in the basement) Never got into current gen hardware yet.. PS3 might be my choice tho.. :) Maybe my answer will change then. :p lol

    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
