Sorry to hijack, but can someone explain the difference between DivX and Xvid? I don't think I have the Xvid codec but I can still view the file? And in Quicktime it says its DivX? Can Xvid be decoded by Divx or... :blush: Wikipedia doesn't say much. :(

Ya when you install xvid it ask if u want to decode support for FourCC (DIVX, etc).. So yes it does decode divx codecs also.. So really no need to have divx installed if ur installing xvid.

Nope, that one hasn't been released yet (it's still far from stable anyway).

I hope you know that it's probably not legal to download that in the U.S. :p

It is legal as long as it's marked educational an you're not trying to use it commercially. In case the later is the case, you are obliged to get a license from MPEG LA, otherwise they can sue you for patent infingement(they hold all the MPEG patents).
