XP with bells and whistles for the generation that likes shiny things - sigh - thats what we get from having those colourful dangly things over babies cribs. From what Ive seen so far there is nothing I want Vista for but like I have a choice. So many years just for this? I haven't been impressed by any of the builds I run so far at all.

Sorry guys, nothing personal.

sigh... Vista is not just about looking good. Just because there aren't many new whizz-bang features doesn't mean there aren't loads of improvments behind the scenes.

If that tickles your fancy, you should take a look at this:

Project Looking Glass

Which, though still in development, was out way before Vista...and is alot more promising should this technology ever take off.

I don't know when Looking Glass started but MS had some pretty neat window animations back in the Longhorn 4xxx builds (2003) which may have been before LG.

Microsoft has also provided actual bits for us to play with. So far Looking Glass is only a bunch of videos.

Its a fair design, no big deal.

And the code, hmpf.....it seems it has only been optimized for IE, they still living in their own world.

well as about 90% of people use ie thats very sensible

Is beta 2 a public beta? - meaning anyone can download it?

um i dont think so vista beta 2 will still be closed i think you might be confused with ie7 beta 2 which is much more likely to be open beta

I'm pretty sure Looking Glass was around either before or during the release of the neat Longhorn effects. And, also, Looking Glass is plenty more than a video. You can obtain a copy for Linux/Unix, Windows, or even download a LiveCD version. Just do a Google search, there are download links on their page.

Also, nice website. I hope Vista has a nice "stunning" appearance like this website does. So far, they're on the right track.

Looks great :) and it works perfectly in Firefox (Y) MS is finally learning, great to see

Edit: I noticed IE7 got renamed as well...nothing huge :p but MS call it Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 now...I'm guessing they are trying to keep all the naming conventions consistant (Windows Mail (Outlook Express) etc)..I'm gather everyone probally already knew that from ages ago...but I just noticed today :p

I was unaware of that. Thanks.

    • No thanks! WebView trash is unacceptable. I only use software that's native.
    • The way the human race is going it will die out long before then and it will be the human race fault. They will either die out due to a nuclear war or climate change will kill them off. I say Nuclear war myself and I don't think it will be that long before it happens
