New Trolling law passed

Recommended Posts

This is not the smartest thing I've read in years.

I mean obviously if someone harasses you over the net you can get a lawyer and take it up with the police...but to actually have a law... With this new law there's no clear definition of what is right and what isn't.

In the real world you can sue people for libel, deformation of character and harassment with a restraining order or jail as consequences....I think those laws can be applied online once you can get the proof and correct address information of the offender. But to ban is straight across the board is not smart. that sounds like a dictatorship style if you asked me personally.

So I guess all our debates online will be politically correct so we don't cross the line of being offensive.

""What's annoying to one person may not be annoying to someone else.""

Just goes to show how ill thought out this stupid piece of law is.

So if I say in here that I think "Women are idiots", this would be annoying

to some people and not to others, does that mean I can goto jail if I was in

the US? Just because it might be "annoying" some Women!

How fecking stupid is that one? It would be my opinion. Simple.

Oh sorry, I forgot. Old Georgie Dobya boy doesn't want the American people

to have an opinion anymore. He wants them all to be brainless morons following his every command without question.

Don't they do that in China?

That is a VERY uneducated comment. The law pretty much states you are not allowed to aggravate someone over the Internet, which is as basic as any sort of rule of conduct can get. Do some research on all of the countries which nationally prohibit chat rooms, messenger programs, and even legitimate news sites, with or without personal attacks. This is a good step for the internet, I hope it takes internationally with time.

The law pretty much states that you are allowed as long as you provide your real identity.

although i dont flame etc... i live in Canada so i dont care, sounds so stupid but if someone says something REALLY offensive or is giving out your person info or something it makes sense, so that other authorities can do a check etc.. and see if its gonna be a big problem or shut them down...

i can believe Bush gets paid to shake hands with ppl and read things.

There is a good side to this, since it was attached to a spending bill, it only is a law for 1 year, and would have to be renewed.

No, the spending bill itself will have to be renewed when it expires (in 2009 i believe), but this law will stay on the books because another law was amended (unless the amendment included an expiration).

from news.com.com, masquerading as cnet news. yeah, sounds like a legit law to me.

learn to read and be observant, people - they are important skills.

Perhaps it's you that needs to hone those skills.
