FronZ
Well , I've been an ADSL subscriber since 3 years with no problems with my ISP as regards speeds , I only have a 256/64 ADSL connection , and my maximum download speed is 27 KB/s and my maximum upload speed is 7 KB/s , I think this is appropriate . My question is , why does my download speed fall whenever I upload with more than 4 KB/s ( more than 3 KB/s incase of eMule ) , why can't I download and upload with full speeds together , even when applying the 80% rule of limiting upload my download speed falls . I called customer support and they told me I can only do this if I changed my ADSL modem to a Router , is this true ? swifting to a router is easy and free with my ISP , I just wanna know is it worth buying a switch and using a router , any other gains of routers over USB modems ? Thanks in advance .
N1CK
A router is unlikely to have a dramatic effect on your speeds although there are many other great reasons why you should consider getting one. I think you slightly misuderstand how TCP/IP works... Data has to be sent back acknowledging receipt of data etc... You cannot download without using upload bandwidth and vice-versa.
