ToastGodSupreme
Please do not ask what the HOSTS in this thread, let's keep this to contents only. If you want to know what it is and how to use it, make a thread appropriately named "What is the HOSTS file and how do I use it?" Alright, well I've just gotten mine working and would like to know if any of you guys have any custom ones. So far, this one blocks quite a lot of ads. Next step is to hack the "Page cannot be found" file and make it nicer looking. ;) If you do have one, and are posting the contents, be sure to use the 'code' tag, so spacing is kept and whatnot. :) This is what mine looks like right now: <pre># To clear DNS cache: # ipconfig /flushdns # 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 delta.opt-n.net 127.0.0.1 focusin.ads.targetnet.com 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net 127.0.0.1 ad.keenspot.com 127.0.0.1 adfarm.mediaplex.com 127.0.0.1 ads.x10.com 127.0.0.1 ads.ad-flow.com 127.0.0.1 cache.burstnet.com 127.0.0.1 cgi.sexlist.com 127.0.0.1 media.fastclick.net 127.0.0.1 media24.fastclick.net 127.0.0.1 netshelter.adtrix.com 127.0.0.1 secure.webconnect.net 127.0.0.1 servedby.advertising.com 127.0.0.1 www.doubleclick.net 127.0.0.1 www.qksrv.net 127.0.0.1 counter.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter14.sextracker.com</pre> By the way. if you add new entries to the HOSTS file, it's good to clear the DNS cache via the method described in my HOSTS file. Had similar list although, not quite that extensive, but now updated it. Thanks ! It's a pretty sad situation when U have to block out 13,000 ad servers :devious:
hurting101
Does anyone else have a problem after using the big long hosts file, and you go to a page where the ads are blocked, you have to click "back" a bunch of times to actually go back? Example: Go to http://www.pcworld.com , click a link, and does it take 5 backs to actually go back?
