Whiule I've been crazy busy down here at E3, the team back in Redmond has been busy with a Back Compat update update. (yea, it was a surprise to me too!) The latest backwards compatibility update is now available over Xbox Live (or will be very soon.) This free update brings the complete list of original Xbox games that you can play on your Xbox 360 to way 300. Remember, your original Xbox games will look better than ever on Xbox 360 running in 720p and 1080i with anti-aliasing. You can also play cross-platform between Xbox 360 and the original Xbox over Xbox Live.

When I get back to Redmond next week, I'll kick out an updated PDF file that will contain ALL the updates. For now, here is what the July ''07 update contains:

Shadowrun Update #2 is out

Hey folks,

We have more info about TU2 now, and as promised, you get it as soon as we have it. The 360 version has passed Cert, and the Vista version is expected to pass in the very near future. What does this mean? You're likely to see the title update live sometime early next week. We can't promise a specific day - too many variables we don't control - but it should early next week.

Please remember: it sometimes takes a while for a title update to propagate across the network. So while the requirement for the update is instantanous - everyone will be prompted to update as soon as it goes live - the update itself may fail for some for a few hours until the network catches up. We apologize if you run into a delay, but the problem should fix itself within a reasonable amount of time.

One other note: we are working on publishing downloadable versions of the title updates for Vista users. This may help some users address update failures on PC. ETA = early next week.

TITLE UPDATE #2 CONTENTS:

Vista Only:

01) Fixed various issues that could cause dedicated server crashes / hard locks.

02) You can now save your dedicated server settings.

03) You can now exit the game properly even if you don't / can't sign in.

04) If you're not connected to Live, buttons that you can't use unless connected are grayed out.

05) Fixed some user interface and messaging issues on the Live menus.

06) Added ability to cap bandwidth on a dedicated server.

07) Users playing on a DS will no longer show up as hosting it.

08) Clicking the PARTY button in a DS lobby as a silver player will no longer kick you.

09) Fixed a crash issue with certain graphics cards.

10) Fixed multiple small UI / presence issues.

11) Party options are no longer broken after party leader has been switched.

12) Added mirrored sessions to dedicated server. Silver players will now show up on the recently played list of Gold players.

Vista and 360:

- Big ticket items:

13) Implemented improvements to matchmaking. We expect a 200-300% improvement in wait times. We've also added clearer status messaging.

14) Improved sync times. When a new player joins a game, the synching wait will be reduced.

15) Made changes to improve party system. Parties should be split less now, and when splitting is absolutely necessary, we attempt to regroup the party later.

16) You may now use the artifact to clear bodies in Attrition.

17) Fixed some potential exploit issues. No, we're not going to elaborate on this.

- General

18) Fixed various issues that could result in soft locks or crashes.

19) Fixed a problem that could cause game to be stuck at sync screen indefinitely.

20) Fixed a problem with the Unstoppable achievement. And there was much rejoicing.

21) Smartlink HUD will now show up with controllers #2, #3, and #4.

22) Players won't get kicked for inactivity if they're still in the lobby when the game starts.

23) You should be less likely to cycle to a small version of a map if you have a lot of players.

24) Fixed some errors in localized text for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

25) You should get clearer feedback when attempting to join a full game via the guide.

26) Changed some of the achievement descriptions to make goals clearer.

27) Dwarf hint text is now correct. (They CAN be unawared - just not headshotted.)

- Bots

28) Bots on Dig Site are not so determined to kill themselves in the Sacrifice Pit now.

29) Bots in Raid games will emphasize flag pickup towards the end of rounds.

30) Bots should no longer be so fascinated with walls.

31) Bots no longer look at a flag carrier that can't be seen rather than threats that can be seen.

32) Public match fill bots should now support the team better.

This is the bulk of the changes. If you experience any problems with the title update, please post on the Technical Issues forum. Rux / Fall and the guys will be keeping an eye out.

The long wait times for searching and connecting are gone, and man does it make a difference. I found 25 servers and connected within 10seconds. So much better now

Forza 2 updated when I turned it on. No idea what the changes are though.

Forza 2 Update

Fixes going into Monday's auto-update are as follows:

Deny gifting and reselling of cars with locked paintjobs. Why? Because this will help alleviate the problem where an artist's precious limited edition car gets duplicated and sold on the Auction House. The only way you can sell or gift a car with a locked livery is by being the original owner/artist of the car.

A temporary ban on the Lotus Elan use on scoreboards and in multiplayer. Why? There is an error with the Lotus Elan's performance index calculation that puts the car at a lower class despite its capabilities, resulting in the Elan mass dominating the scoreboards in D and C class. This temporary ban will not allow you to upload lap times to the scoreboards when you use the car in career mode, and prohibits you from using the car at all in online races. When we roll out our permanent PI fix for the Elan in a future patch, we're going to lift the ban. Sorry for the draconian measure -- we really didn't like imposing this sort of restriction on the community but this is necessary.

Allow cars to be fully rotated while being viewed in the Auction House. Why? Because so many of you asked for the camera to be unlocked in Auction House so you can look at the paintjob on the roof of the car we thought we should do good by the community.

A number of scoreboard problems have been fixed. These range from the glitch where if the AI did not relinquish control of your car after the rolling start, you would inadvertently post a corrupt superhuman lap time in the micro-seconds, to several "extreme" physics bugs folks have been exploiting to get crazy fast lap times (lag crash boosting and the shifting glitch).

Removed host's ability to boot players during a race. Why? Because this feature, although handy at times, was getting abused by hosts who kicked folks who were in the lead of a race where the stakes were high (i.e., credits were on the table). Don't worry, you can still kick people to your heart's content in the lobby.

Miscellaneous fixes aplenty. Like what? Various discovered Auction House bugs that could potentially cause players to lose credits or cars. At least one triple-screen bug fix for sync'ing issues, as well as an undiscovered quickmatch bug that always connected you to the same game upon attempt.

Double the fun with free Double Agent DLC

doubleagentoutdoorz3612.jpg

Today, Splinter Cell: Double Agent came down with a case of free downloadable content syndrome and as everyone knows, the only cure for such sickness is for you to give it a download. The free downloadable content includes two new multiplayer maps (Kinshasa and Secret Base), four new challenges, and a new Spy Girl character with three different outfits. And did we mention these goodies are free?

Hopefully this new Double Agent content will satisfy Splinter Cell fans' appetite until the recently delayed Conviction releases in 2008. It'll be a long wait, but you'll survive.

About friggin' time! It's almost a year since the game came out and only now do we get this :|

Yep, I sold my copy last year to get a Wireless headset. I really want it back, because I love Splinter Cell, but I'm just not sure if it's worth $20 bucks.

C&C 3 to be "revolutionized" soon

cnc-revolution.jpg

Our buddies over at Gamertag Radio received an interesting email today. It's contents can be summarized in the image above. Yes, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will be revolutionized on August 7. What the hell does that mean? We have no earthly idea (and no unearthly idea for that matter). Gamertag Radio is stumped, too. All we do know is that whatever it is, you can uncover more info on August 7 at the official C&C3 website. We do, however, have some concrete details on the upcoming patch for C&C3. The patch is set to fix three major exploits in the game and should be available "soon." Alright, so maybe it's not concrete per se, but it's better than nothing, right?

Xbox 360 System update

Moments ago, the team released a system update (aka Dash update) to Xbox Live. Over the next few hours, when you sign in to Xbox LIVE, you?ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. What?s in this update? The only thing this minor release will do is prepare your Xbox 360 for the wireless guitars that are being released in a few months.

No new features beyond this wireless support are included in this update. As usual, we?ve got some new features planned for later this year as part of our biannual release cycle.

Major Nelson

Is there a way that i can install any dashboard theme to my xbox360 without get in xbox live or get in the internet at all? If there is which is the way? A lot of thangs.

No. Why do you keep asking over and ove again? We've answered you before

There actually is a way, sorta. Some Xbox 360 Kiosks (in stores, etc) have exclusive themes, gamerpics, etc and you can bring your Memory Card and download them to your Memory Card, take it home, load it up and there you go. :) Of course, you don't get the vast selection that is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but it's the only option if you have no internet connection. ;)

That is exactly what this guy wants, the stuff on XBLM, AND wants it for free. Trust me, he doesn't listen to a word anyone says.

But yeah I agree, you can get freebies from OXM magazines and kiosks :p

Fall 2007 Update Rumor: Parental Timer

Rumor has it that the bi-annual Xbox 360 firmware update set to hit this fall will bring with it a number of interesting updates, chief among them a new Parental Timer.

Sources tell me that the update will allow people to set a password protected usage timer on their Xbox 360s. In other words, parents or loved ones will be able to limit the amount of time someone can game on the system during a given time period.

Personally, I think this is a brilliant idea and I can't figure why no console has done this before (that I know of). I'm fairly on top of things when it comes to my 6-year-old and his gaming habits. In fact I set up his 360 on the television in my loft office, so typically I'm right next to him when he plays. But, it's easy for me to lose track of time and even easier for him to. We use a system that requires him to do math, reading or writing homework to earn television time and video game time. Now I can just add this little timer to the formula and allow it to track just how much time he has left.

Brilliant, simply brilliant.

Great idea!

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
    • CPPC states can also be messed around with in most UEFI settings but aren't as robust as the ones that the Windows Scheduler can provide! Make sure you look into what your motherboard also has before customizing for the Windows Scheduler.
    • My issue is I can't access the forum on mobile if the site is set to Desktop mode on Vivaldi because it can't complete the Cloud flare am I a bot check! I know this is a Vivaldi issues as it has started happening on all cloud flare check sites, it's so annoying, I've reported it but no fix yet.
