[OFFICIAL] X360 Dashboard/Game Updates

Recommended Posts

I know that's why I also said I didn't expect them to add xvid. though xvid has gotten a lot of use nowadays in more legal ways. Especially in trailers and such. kv hasn't come to this level. but then divx has a relatively professional company behind it, wich has done all it could to push for more legal uses of DivX and gotten it as almost a standard support in dvd players.

and I'm pretty sure the 360 support subtitles in some way, well through the MCE anyway if you stream stuff(like tv channels form a MC box). but the real use for mkv wouldn't be subtitles as much as the the wider support it was for video stream and audio stream compatibilities. if you want 5.1 sound without using mp3 you're pretty much stuck with mkv. outside of using wmv anyway.

Nope I tried that, worked on my laptop, didnt work on the 360 :(

Speak of the Devil...

The December debacle could have held up the Xbox Live team more than we thought. With the fall update coming later than expected and the December Xbox live debacle, the spring update could be skipping to fall.

There has been no word of a spring update, and everyone seems to have forgotten about one. Spring has just started and ends on June 20th 11:59:59 so that leaves 3 months left to be completed.

Can the Xbox Live team bring an effective update (not the windows live messenger crap) by the end of spring or do we have to wait till fall?

It's just a rumour, mind, plus we can take solice in the fact that Microsoft didn't mention anything about the last update until a week or two before it was due out.

I am sure they have something already developed ready to release as the Spring update when the time comes.

I guess we will find out in June then because will not announce anything until nearer the time. Just hope some info gets leaked though on coming features/improvements.

which game? cod had no problems neither did halo so what game are you talking about Michael?

Yes, Call of Duty 4 - So many people had major problem with both Live and in-game servers, you can't deny that, people even tried to sue Microsoft over it, so you can't deny it.

It wasn't Call of Duty that caused that, it was simply the sheer number of people singing into Live at Christmas - alll were affected and it wasn't just one major release.

Don't think we ever got an official statement which explained anything? I doubt a lot of users just signing up would cause that, they'd have to actually use the service, Playing Call of Duty 4 which was the Christmas seasons big hit - So i think the problems go hand in hand.

Pretty much my entire friends list during those months were playing Call of Duty 4.

God yeah those kids singing into their microphones really annoys me!!! :p

Glad they are increasing the capacity of Live, thats always a good thing too :)

new call of duty 4:MW update/patch includes a new set of menu options:

in the multiplayer & xbox live menu's the update has added a new option for "download maps" which takes you to the download popup that leads to any map packs that they will be releasing in the new few hours & the future.

please not this is not stating that the maps are now available

not too sure on what else is updated in this update/patch so if anyone can add to this then that's amazing.

  • 2 weeks later...

When are they releasing a new update, there's still lot of stuff missing and I am afraid to say now my 360 is collecting dust :( .

I don't play multiplayer much, so there aren't any good games coming out till 29th. Also the update I am talking about is for the 16:10 support, smoother navigation and annoying freeze that happens everytime I log into xbox live.

Just got the update as well. I don't notice anything different. Probably just some backend stuff I guess.

Edit: Just found this over at Major Nelson's Blog...

A few minutes ago, the team released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you?ll recieve a prompt to accept this mandatory update. This update contains code to ?prepare for future growth of the service.? There are no other changes or enhancements in this update?in other words no new features. The next obvious question you?ll have is about the Spring update. At this point we have nothing to announce, and the moment there is information to share I will do so.

Did it occur when you put a game disc in?

Yes i did. I signed in fine and then i loaded up Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and i came up. I thought it was an update for the game.

Maintenance is coming Monday 21th aswell so maybe it has something to do with that.

I feel the spring update is close.

Well, after doing the update, my 360 now has RROD. I don't know if it has anything to do with the update or not, but it froze when I tried to download the Condemned demo, so I turned if off and then back on again and I got RROD.

    • Millions of users to benefit from Windows 11's new performance boost on Adobe Photoshop by Sayan Sen Despite the advent of AI-generated imagery, Adobe's Photoshop remains one of the most popular tools on this planet. Adobe does not have a publicly reported total user count but it's probably not wrong to assume there are millions. As of 2025, Adobe Creative Cloud has had approximately 41 million paid subscribers, many of whom likely use Photoshop. In addition, more than 166,000 companies worldwide are apparently also using the app. These figures are according to a very recent report by SQ Magazine. Out of them, it is fair to assume that many are probably running Windows. As such, there is good news for these users as Microsoft has announced Photoshop is getting a big 20% performance boost on x86-64 (AMD64) systems and a 13% bump-up on Arm devices. This is definitely great news for them as many have complained about the slow performance and general sluggishness of Photoshop on Windows 11 ever since the advent of the latter back in 2021. If you are wondering how Microsoft managed to do this, the answer lies in a combination of compiler-level optimizations and a technology called Sample Profile Guided Optimization (SPGO). According to Microsoft, Adobe worked closely with the company’s Visual C++ team and adopted the latest MSVC toolchain enhancements together with SPGO to squeeze more performance out of Photoshop’s CPU-bound workloads. Unlike traditional Profile Guided Optimization (PGO), which requires developers to create special instrumented builds and run lengthy training workloads, SPGO gathers performance data directly from optimized release binaries. This means Adobe could collect real-world usage information which gives a major advantage to this technique, as companies could leverage data collected from actual customer workloads rather than only relying on synthetic benchmark runs. In theory, this should allow optimizations to better reflect how users interact with software in the real world. Thanks to this, there are improvements to code layout, function inlining, hot-and-cold code separation, and other low-level tweaks that help processors execute instructions more efficiently. Essentially the compiler is better able to identify “hot” code paths, those which are most frequently executed, and optimize them accordingly.
    • "The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months¨ I'd prefer to see the lowest price in over a year
    • Glad these prices are starting to come down, but that is still crazy. I bought the 2TB 9100 Pro (slightly more expensive version with PCIe 5.0) last year for $240.
    • The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months by Sayan Sen Yesterday, we covered a really good deal wherein you can get a 4TB TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD for a low price of just $400 with a special discount coupon. That's just $100 per TB, making it a very good offer during these hard times. The deal is still live, so you can check it out in its dedicated article here if you do not want to miss out. Meanwhile, if you don't have that kind of budget but still wish to buy an SSD for a good price, the 2TB variant of the TeamGroup SSD at $280 its lowest price in over three months. Meanwhile, those seeking 2TB but faster performance can check out Samsung's 990 PRO, which has hit the lowest price also in the last quarter or so, as it's on sale for $370 (purchase links under the specs table down below). Thus, you want a faster drive, get the 990 Pro, or you want more capacity, grab the TeamGroup 4TB linked in the first para. The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $500. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more.
