You can update the dashboard all you want, it'll be fine. You can even connect to Live and update it that way, just don't have a copied game in the disk drive when you do it.

Just to clarify (and not that I should be telling you this, but anyway) if you ever have a copied game in the drive, do NOT connect to live. Even if you remove the disk, be sure to RESET your console before you connect to live (and by connect to live, I'm talking about signing in on the dashboard).

Well the fall update was a bitlate and fairly comprehensive.

I think most of the requests that made sense was done for the fall update so I guess people aren't speculating as much outside of improving on what was added, and maybe some new cool stuff that noone ever thought of :)

Well all I'm hoping for is 5.1 support when decoding h.264 video. At the moment, it only does 2 channels :(

MKV support would rock.

I'm guessing it'll be late again this time because the last one was so late, but you never know.

I would like MKV support added aswell as that would be ssweet but i wouldn't hold my breath to be fair.

Thing i would like included with the Spring update;

# Intergrated Web browser.

# The ability to read emails from your Windows Live account.

# MKV video support.

# Animationed backgrounds (also able to use your own videos would be cool etc)

# Support more resolutions such as 1440x900 and 1680x1050

Would mind a newer animation for achievement unlocks and friends signing in. The one on PC looks far more cleaner.

Can't think of anymore right now.

Apparently they've already got a web browser working in their labs, but it's not really all that useful (apparently) and I'm inclined to agree for the most part. But then again, my 360 is right beside my PC anyway, if I had it in the living room it might be different.

Dunno, I've yet to be dissapointed by any of the 360 updates.

but then again I never expec them to add support for a piracy format like mkv either (face it, there aren't any legitimate stuff using mkv, sure it's a nice container but...)

the closest would be the lack of 5.1 support in h264 but...it's not exactly something I cry to much over since they also actually added divx support, and I got an actual media center now :)

Well the very same could be said about DivX/XviD and there's a lot MORE of those files floating around.

I think for proper MKV support, actual subtitle support would be needed as well, so that's probably one of the reasons they haven't bothered yet.

More resolutions would be nice, too.

I know that's why I also said I didn't expect them to add xvid. though xvid has gotten a lot of use nowadays in more legal ways. Especially in trailers and such. kv hasn't come to this level. but then divx has a relatively professional company behind it, wich has done all it could to push for more legal uses of DivX and gotten it as almost a standard support in dvd players.

and I'm pretty sure the 360 support subtitles in some way, well through the MCE anyway if you stream stuff(like tv channels form a MC box). but the real use for mkv wouldn't be subtitles as much as the the wider support it was for video stream and audio stream compatibilities. if you want 5.1 sound without using mp3 you're pretty much stuck with mkv. outside of using wmv anyway.

One of my favourite things about MKV was it's subtitle support, as well as the fact that the file could have separate audio tracks. Perfect for Anime, which typically comes with both the English and Japanese audio as well as English subs (fun to put English audio and English subs on at the same time to see how completely different they are lol).

    • The problem of course is simply that government does not always know best. My point is that agency is taken away from the EU consumer in these cases. I'm sorry, but I do not believe that governments (politicians) are inherently good, and "looking out for me." Primarily they look to themselves and their own personal desires first, foremost, and always. When the EU or the DOJ fines these companies, claiming to "represent the welfare of the consumer," how much of these billion-dollar judgments are handed to the consumers they claim to represent? Not even a dollar, as I've seen. Yet the EUC lawyers who are paid to sit around and dream up these suits make huge commissions on the fines the EUC adjudicates, which is an ironclad fact I hope everyone is aware of. It's also rank corruption, of course, but that's another topic. Last, when the EU inflicts these judgments, or the DOJ, take your pick, the costs are bundled right along in the cost of the goods and services these companies provide the consumers they are "looking out for." If you are someone who believes his government is his savior then you have my condolences. I think Apple is right here, because the whole scheme of consumer choice is that consumers pick and choose among the products companies offer. Microsoft Windows is more compatible with third party software and hardware than any desktop OS on Earth, which is my sole reason for choosing it. Just because the EUC forces companies do certain things it knows the companies do not want to do, "or else", has no bearing on consumer benefit. This Siri thing is almost idiotic it's so infantile. But this is what the EUC does when the EU in Brussels becomes cash-strapped and needs a big infusion of cash. Some people get upset by "big companies" but it's the opposite when governments dwarf the size and scope of these companies, which is so obvious it hurts.... I mean you can't honestly believe that forcing Apple to do things with Siri it has its own reasons to decline is something that "opens up" Apple, do you? Say it aint' so...
    • Looks like many years since the request was made, a directory tree view finally may be added. https://github.com/files-community/Files/pull/18537
    • There's this from last year https://gist.github.com/threat...364659a8887841aa43deca4efd9 but nothing about a buffer overflow that MS somehow can't code against. No matter what, it makes sense to take a "protected by default" approach.
