WCC beta 12

New features:

- New notifier text (png fonts, new lines settings and more)

- Improved search cover feature (make sure to check "Prompt before" in "Options>Download")

3 steps to install beta 12:

1- install beta 10 (just if you don't have installed WCC before due system files). You can get it here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...e/1109367710/1

2- install one of the new fonts set (you have to create a "Fonts" folder then a subfolder for each font set, like the "Skins" folder):

Default font: http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/Default.zip

Morpheus font: http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/Morpheus.zip

3- Now you can test the last beta 12 build (*): http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/wcc12b135.zip

(*) don't forget to copy "icon.ico" into "...\Skins\Case\" folder.

Note: an installer will be made as soon as the font engine is ready, so wait for it if you can't figure how to install it out.

Question...I've been trying to find this option and I was wondering if you could possibly impliment this unless it's there already and I'm missing it (both 11 and 12 betas).

When the dialog box opens for "Accept current cover" could you allow the notifier to come up on Hover? I find it troublesome when there is a cover in question about to be added and I don't think it's the right cover....I have to click the album artwork to see the Album tag from the ID3 and it's just one more step I'd like to get rid of :D

OMFG!....Now THAT is a feature.....I guess I'm threw with beta 11....

:::With this beta I cannot move either the cover or the notifier...Since i have a multimonitor environment, the text gets seperated on each sides of the monitor, but even if i unlock it, it still will not move.....and sometimes when i try to drag and drop it, it will change songs....

Edited by Inactive Vigor

Inactive Vigor,

1) To move the case/cover: click and hold in the case area (not the cover area)

2) changing song: WCC has invisible buttons at the bottom of the case/cover area:

at left = previous

at middle = play/pause

at right = next

3) To adjust the notifier position: go to "Skin Manager>Text>Text position"

I have the Case as transparent so it wont popup when there is not a cover for a specific song (it looks ugly when its just the case)....anyway it will work with just clicking on the cover?

Also, is there a way to move the fonts over to the right...look at this picture....if i have something on monitor 1 open, the text ends up getting cut off since its not centered

I have the Text position currently set to Bottom...and this is what it does...if its on any other ones, they get covered up by my taskbar

post-19111-1138934450.jpg

1) move by clicking on the cover: I'll add it as soon as possible. It was disabled due a pin to desktop bug...

2) for now, to fix the progress bar + text issue, go to "Skin Manager>Size and position>Progress bar" and set "Bottom Notifier" as its "Position". Your currently setting is just "Bottom".

3) and yes you can place the text at right: "Skin Manager>Text>Text position"

Thanks for your feedback!

::: Note: WCC uses the "Case" png (and its zoom) as the parameter to define the text and progress bar top position! WCC assumes that the case is the same or always bigger than the cover area!

Well i did everything you said and while these new betas are WAY better than what i was playing with last night (cd case kept crashing and so did Post Mortem debugger).....the text is still wrong

I put it to "bottom notifier" and then i put the test to bottom.....the text will still not move under the cover, its still inside the middle of the cover or something stupid....ill show you what bottom and right both do and then i have to get to class....

Welll...it just crashed after going from one song with a cover. back to the previous song before it that had a cover.....beta 12 is quite buggy....I hadnt really had an error with WCC in weeks until this beta...When winamp CD case crashes, even after i ctrl+alt+del it, it wont go away...Only way is to kill two instances of the Post moretm debugger (which also crashes when it tries to get WCC to go away) and then the instance of cd case.exe will go away

Here are two screen shots (i followed your instructions from the post above), one with the text set to bottom and one right it set to right...Now I decided not to take shots of Up and Left, because I assume you can get the picture of what is happening...but all of them do not show the font to any sort of degree I would like them to be...This new notifier might have to be like the cover, and allow use to drag and drop it to where we want, because with these 4 little options that are "relative" to the cd case position...They aren't working

Inactive Vigor,

Can you test it with a skin with a case?

By the way, what's the case and cover zoom?

I think the main issue is that WCC is still positioning the text considering the case width and height which is smaller in your case.

If you confirm this situation I can manage a way to consider the cover width and height too (at least I can try).

In addition, I can reproduce the issue: I just make the cover zoom higher than the case zoom ("Skin Manager>Size and position>Zoom").

Zoom is at 100% on both with a height and with of 275 PX.. Just tried it with the theme "Case" which has a case...same error, and then WCC decided to crash

*sigh*

Is there anyway you can add all the new CD-downloading features to beta 11? I honestly prefer the old notifier than this new font craziness...If not....I Believe I will just stick with beta 11, as it is WAY More reliable

:::this is what happens with WCC beta 12 with your Defualt theme "case" no matter what settings i change, it thinks the Case is much smaller than the Cover....Also, why the hell does WCC crash, and crash in a manner where i have to kill 3 programs just for WCC to go away...It's crashing like every 2-3 songs and I'm having to kill all the processes every damn time

Edited by Inactive Vigor

Inactive Vigor,

1) Cover size: you probably changed the cover width and height. Here are the default values ("Skin Manager>Size and position>Cover size"): Width = 157 and Height = 152

2) Skin: There is a glow skin that will only place a "glow" around the cover. However, if you want just the plain cover make it just a bit bigger than the case. You can manually control the cover's position ("Skin Manager>Size and position>Cover position) and its size ("Skin Manager>Size and position>Cover size").

3) Crashing: You should have just one instance of the program running; try the last build, but do the following:

3.1.) close both Winamp and WCC

3.2.) check to see if there's another instance(s) of WCC running (Ctrl+Alt+Del); if so, close it (them)

3.3.) dowload the new build: http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/wcc12b72.zip

3.4.) copy to WCC's folder then, before starting Winamp, start WCC

3.5.) close WCC

3.6.) Done!

This kind of crashing was already reported in beta 11 and the "instance" was the issue. WCC now will automatically control that.

::: Your screenshot gives a nice idea of a skin configuration: we can use a transparent case, make a bigger cover and see the text inside the cover area! I'll try this later! :)

BTW....if you haven't realized... I'm Meshuggah

And I made a personal skin with a 90% transparent case already...It works with both 11 and 12 betas....If you want to check it out, pm me.....Ill update to this new build and see if it fixes anything

I gotta say, i think the problem lies in the new font system for the notifier....By giving only one option of text size, you basically eliminate text resizing. If you have a long band name or long song title, the font is just going to expand and not auto correct to fill up just a designated amount of space.

Old Notifier did that.

On a good note though....so far no crashes :)

Edited by Inactive Vigor

Inactive Vigor,

I was almost sure that you was you! :)

If you don't mind, send me your skin. I'm almost sure it's just a metter of center the cover to the case and make the cover area, at least, the same size of the case. My email: [email protected]

Text size: you can set the text size ("Skin Manager>Text>Text Size"); in a future build you'll be able to control how many letters you want to see; if the text is bigger then WCC will show "..." (I forget the english name for that, man!), like the old notifier.

See you!

Nice Carlos! I like it better than I thought I would. I currently have it set up like this:

Line 1 - %artist%

Line 2 - %album%

Line 3 - "%title%"

I notice Line 3 doesn't detect any other characters outside of the variables since you designed it for the rating. I'd be willing to make my own PNG images for fonts I'd like to use, any chance of a tutorial for making them? :D

Yochanan,

1) Line 3: Yes, you can use Line 3 for any variables (artist, title, album, year, rating...). Just make sure to use the last build:

http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/wcc12b72.zip

2) Font

As you can see I'm not a good designer.

But you can freely make your own set. Maybe even share it with us. :)

There is no secret, just a 40x40 (pixels) png (see "...\Fonts\Default\" for a sample).

If you want, I can send you my simple font project (for PhotoShop). Just email me ([email protected]).

    • Alpine Linux 3.24 released with support for COSMIC Desktop and other improvements by David Uzondu Alpine Linux 3.24 has been released with updated system packages, including Linux kernel 6.18 and Rust 1.96. The team also added IPv6 support to the system installer, and they introduced automatic serial console configuration for headless setups. System76's COSMIC desktop environment is now available in the community repo. System76 originally started building this DE because its developers found GNOME to be pretty limited. Plus, it did not help that with virtually every GNOME update, the changes broke System76's custom desktop extensions. As for system packages, the Alpine team moved GTK+ 3.0 from the main repository to the community repository due to its legacy status. py3-setuptools has been upgraded to version 82.0.0, while the old pkg_resources module has been completely dropped. The team also removed outdated packages that still relied on py3-six and GTK+ 2.0. In addition to that, libsoup 2 has been removed because the library was affected by multiple security vulnerabilities. If you're a GRUB user, the Alpine Team said that you must manually run the grub-install command with your specific device or EFI options right after upgrading your system, otherwise, your computer may fail to boot properly with the newly updated GRUB 2.14 bootloader. New installations of Alpine Linux now offer an optional path to a /usr-merged directory layout if you set the BOOTSTRAP_USR_MERGED environment variable to 1 before you execute the setup-disk command. If you already run an older installation, you can migrate manually by installing the merge-usr package and executing its binary as the root user. The team recommends this layout to align Alpine with modern Linux standards, though you should verify your custom scripts before making the switch. Alpine Linux is a pretty tiny (~5MB) Linux distro built around musl libc, BusyBox, and OpenRC. It's been around since 2005, comes with its own package manager called Alpine Package Keeper (APK), and is widely used in modern cloud computing and software deployment.
    • Instagram now lets you manually reorder posts on your profile grid by David Uzondu Instagram is finally rolling out the ability to customize your feed layout as you see fit by letting you reorder posts on your profile grid. This feature comes several months after the app introduced a tool that lets users rearrange photos and videos within a carousel post after it has already been published. To do that, people tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the post, select the edit option, and reorganize their slides. Now that Instagram has expanded the feature to your profile grid, you can organize your main page without deleting old uploads. To use the new system, you simply tap any picture on your grid and select the option to reorder. This action opens up a separate screen where you can freely drag your grid items around until you get your preferred aesthetic, and then you just hit the back button to save your changes. Instagram's Threads account posted that the system would reach accounts starting this week, so you might need to wait for the automatic update to hit your phone. https://www.threads.com/@instagram/post/DZVV_fyjjSW In other Instagram news, last week, people figured out that if you ask Meta's AI support assistant to hand over any Instagram account, the bot will actually hand it over (even if the victim's account had 2FA enabled). The security exploit involved the assistant accepting prompts from users and generating password reset links for unauthorized email addresses. Meta said that the issue has now been fixed, but this came after the issue affected several high-profile accounts, including @obamawhitehouse. Last month, the company finally rolled out paid subscription tiers for WhatsApp and other Meta social platforms after months of testing. WhatsApp Plus costs $2.99 a month and gives you custom themes, while Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus cost $3.99 a month for extra profile customization and story rewatch counters. Meta's also working on Meta One, a unified subscription service that contains options for heavy users of its servers who want more reach or advanced features. For instance, Meta One Essential ($14.99/mo) comes with a verified badge and impersonation protection. If you pay for Meta One Premium ($19.99/mo), you get deeper AI reasoning tools, whereas the Meta One Advanced ($49.99/mo) tier increases your search placement (on Facebook and Instagram) and visibility.
    • Hello mysterious lamborghiniv10, I was in Australia and... now I'm in the Netherlands.
    • EU says Meta must restore rival chatbots' access to WhatsApp by Hamid Ganji The European Commission has ordered Meta to restore third-party AI chatbots’ access to WhatsApp after the tech giant decided to block them from operating on the popular messaging platform. After Meta banned rival AI chatbots from operating on WhatsApp, the European Commission launched an antitrust investigation to determine whether the company had abused its market dominance. As a result of Meta’s decision, third-party AI chatbots, including Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, were prevented from operating on WhatsApp. At the time, Meta said it wanted to reserve the WhatsApp Business API for other types of businesses and did not allow rival chatbots to use it. This effectively prevented the WhatsApp ecosystem from being used to distribute rival chatbot services. However, the European Commission has now announced an interim measures decision requiring Meta to restore access to WhatsApp for rival general-purpose AI assistants on the same terms and conditions as before October 15, 2025. The Commission has also asked Meta to maintain that access until the antitrust investigation is concluded. The Commission argues that Meta has used its dominant market position to prevent rival AI chatbots from accessing the WhatsApp Business API. While Meta allowed rival services to return to WhatsApp by paying a fee, the European Commission still considers that arrangement to be a de facto access ban. According to EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera, the fees introduced by Meta are so high that using WhatsApp is no longer economically sustainable for competitors. “It seems that Meta expects to leverage the vast reach and likely dominance of WhatsApp to benefit its own AI assistant and to foreclose rivals,” Ribera said. “We cannot let large digital incumbents leverage their dominance of the past to dictate who in Europe gets to compete and who gets to innovate in AI.”
