IPB ImageA new build of the AIM? Triton beta software is available for download from the AIM Triton beta area, accessible from AOL? Beta Central. The new version number of the software is 1.2.10.3.

This build incorporates Proxy Server support. However, unlike AIM 5.9, AIM Triton does not have any proxy server settings. Instead, uses the same proxy server settings as Internet Explorer. For comprehensive steps on how to do this, please visit the Test Instructions section in the AIM Triton beta area.

We would like to see this functionality tested against a range of proxy server configurations. Therefore, if you are connecting from behind a proxy server, we strongly encourage you to give this new functionality a try. If you have any problems using our regular download delivery mechanism to download the software, use the Full Installer link in the FAQs section of the Beta area to download the installer directly.

Another focus of this build is bug fixes. You can find a list of these as well as new Known Issues in the AIM Triton beta area. As usual, we encourage you to use the Message Boards and Bug Report form to notify us of any issues you run across no matter how small. We will endeavor to address your concerns in a timely manner.

We thank you in advance for your testing efforts.

each version keeps getting better and better. tho, it'll be nice when they add back in the ability to export your Buddy Profile. i keep losing my everytime i uninstall the old ones and install new versions.

Profiles saved to host is something we are currently looking at. I think there may be some news on this at some point this year. That's the best timeframe I can give. I will have more info on this release and future releases on my blog later this week.

Can't wait. :)

What do you think about this:

I already notice a problem. When I move the buddylist it "flickers" or blinks. It's kind of hard to move it, esp. down.

SULAX50, great job on Triton. You guys will get me to switch from Trillian if there was some way to standardize all incomming fonts and colors. I have some childish friends who decide to write their text in horrible fonts with horrible colors. In Trillian, I can take all incomming IMs and set them to a specific font and color.

Guide to my perfect IM experience:

-- Log IMs (I'm forgetful!) [you have this]

-- Tab IMs (I sometimes have 10+ windows open!) [you have this]

-- Reformat Incomming IMs (reasons above) [still waiting... ]

Also, I wish I could change the font to something I wanted, and not a pre-determined list. I use one of the new Office 12 fonts as my default font in trillian.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
